1. Cheers Chris, thanks for the heads up. Ill change my vote to Streamliner and BFC now ;-)
2. I had one of these and it was the best cab i ever owned. If i had the cash i'd have this as im due a cab change and was thinking of a Compact but i know how good these sound.
3. Shuttle + Barefaced gets my vote as well ;-)
4. Ive always used a one cab solution and it works for me but i do find that at quiet levels the cabs sound better than when pushed, even moderately. My current 1212L (2 drivers) doesnt seem to change character too much but some of the one speaker cabs ive had have sounded a bit more aggressive/dirty when played at gig volume, not ideal if your going for a clean tone.
5. It worked really well on sat (another Marquee). Im now going to knock the Shuttle 6 trade option on the head unless its a Max. Im still happy to sell it, im also happy to keep it Although this week its great i dont think ill ever be 100% happy with it, and still really want a F500 so im just going to see what happens.
6.
I totally disagree. It's a different sound, I wouldn't say either one was "better" though. Dave, I'm really surprised that you found the RB thin sounding, I've had the 700 and the 2001 and both were anything but thin. GK are known to be good on the volume front too, maybe there was a fault with the one you tried or the cab?
Im only comparing it to my SA450, rather than saying its thin in general. I did a gig where i used both heads, one per set in to a Epifani UL212 cab. The GK went first and while it sounded good, nice low end and bright up top i found when i switched to the SA450 my tone became thicker, with more punch and an over all roundness the GK just couldn't get. Neither was a bad tone, just one sounded better to my ears than the other. Oh, and one weighed a hell of a lot less as well. I got the GK as it was rated higher than my SA450 but i never felt i could push it without it getting dirty.
7.
I think MB gear is a few levels up on GK, but If you like the GK sound, then sure, good move.
I agree. I tried to replace my SA450 with a GK1001RBII a few years ago but found the GK both quieter and thinner sounding. I've not tried thier cabs though.
8. Is it possible to take a signal from the line out in to something else? At least would help eliminate the bass and preamp stage if you get a clean signal.
9. I assume the blue LED isn't flashing on the input stage. I find mine is quite a bit more sensitive compared to my old MB heads.
10.
If this new Classic is MIJ Im guessing its MIJ for the whole lot. I wonder why they chose MIJ instead of MIM like the rest of the Classic series?! Im guessing street price of £700 ish.
If they are that price on the street (lets hope so) then that will bring them in line with second hand MIA's. That will be interesting.
11. Ed friedland has one of these at the moment, maybe he will review it.
12.
Sign of the times.. bet there still consistently better than the US counterparts though... i really hope that Japanese Fender dont get to silly prices though..
I would say its too early to tell how consistently made these new models are, but lets hope they are up to standard (and cheaper)
13. That looks good but dont forget the real thing also has the dampening foam underneath. Im sure this will work well though. I used to put a couple of strips of Platfoam under my cab and even that made a nice difference.
14.
Its MIJ?!
Thats what ive read in a few posts, both here and on TB.
15. Maybe all he can find are F1's :-)
16. Price has been quoted as around £900 in the other thread.
17. Well im in no great hurry to sell it as there isnt a F500 for sale at the moment. Ive had loads of offers (no, i dont need two electric guitars lol) but think ill hold out for something closer to what im after. I've already withdrawn this head once, and will be using it again this weekend so who knows, it might be around for a while yet.
18. PM's all replied to. Thanks for some great offers but still looking for only those heads listed in the first post. Small price reduction to £425 + bag for pickup only. + postage for anyone who wants to pay for the postage (and no bag).
19. Glad it all worked out, even though it was an unexpected result.
20. I would say the CMD 121P "should" be ok. It will depend on how loud the band are, PA support etc but ive seen a few pub bands using them. I used to play In a Weller/Jam tribute band, as well as doing weddings etc with a MAG300 C115 combo without too much trouble and no PA support ad the CMD is louder than that. Its a bit pricey though.
21. Thanks for the heads up. I need to sort some things out first so cant place an order just yet.
22.
Markbass watts are very nice, the F1 should out put 350 watts in 8 ohm and I've had 500 supposed watts going through a midget and never noticed a volume decrease. If the Schroeder is close in design to a S12T then the midget will be 1/2 as loud as the 1212L, the Vd of which is 330, the 1212L I'd guess around 650-700cc of Vd. The compact is just over 500cc Vd. The missing volume will be negligible in smaller room from the 2x12 to the 1x15. Still 330cc is still loud and a lot better than most 2x10 while be lighter. I've already gone through the pros and cons against each one but can go in more depth?
Thanks very much for taking to time to explain all that (and Alex for the reply to it). So, im not going to loose much in the way of volume, even with the mid reduction, but will gain a smoother tone. Sounds good to me. The volume drop isnt really a problem as i dont run my head full on, so if the cab is quieter at the same point on the master that i have with the 1212L i guess i could just turn up a bit more. Just need to sort out the finances and off we go.
23.
yup, £50 down then full payment before despatch. (which happens promptly in my experience)..
Cool, thanks very much. That makes it a bit easier for me to off load my cab in the mean time.
24. Im GAS'ing for a Compact now. I need to shift my Schroeder to pay for it but as its the only cab i have its going to be tricky. So how does this work regarding payment. Deposit then balance once its ready?
25.
I nearly liked it until I saw the weird top horn plus the lower cutaway looks a bit extreme. Thomann has the price for the 4 string at £527, that means it's going to compete with Tanglewaters, Sterling by EBMM, G&L Tributes etc. Not sure if it'll be a big success based on the looks, but the tonal options should be pretty good.
I agree. I was quite excited about this as all the basses ive had that have come out of the Cort factory (Laklands and SBMM Ray34) have been outstanding, and i was pleased to see dots on the fretboard but i dont like the look of the body. Its a shame there aren't more models available.
