1. Pretty cool footage. Already posted here good vibrations
2. Cheers, i did my best. For marquees and venues with nasty thin wooden stages its been fantastic but just recently ive been setting both heads up and i just prefer the character of the MB head, even though the STL600 is a better head for my sort of music. I could quite happily live with it but having a choice of two heads i can see me now using the F1 a lot more.
3. After a few more gigs with this im finding the results too variable. One week ill love it, next week its just not cutting it. Im now convinced its not really for me, and while it sounds great a lot of the time i dont think ill ever completely love it like i do MB heads. Im open to offers close to £430 but other than a MB F500 i cant think of anything i would want as a trade.
4. Its seems like the Streamliner power stage is very clear and open sounding. At last weeks gig me and the drummer arrived earlier than the others and i had some jazz playing off my ipod going through my STL600 while the guests were eating. It sounded very nice, even through my 1212L.
5. Glad it arrived and checks out ok Gareth, its about time one of your basses did. Its been a long time coming, i hope you enjoy it. Do MM send you on a course no how to work it ;-)
6. I had one of these in black but this one looks much nicer. They are made in the Cort factory, the same place as a lot of other basses including Lakland Skylines. I really couldn't fault mine and the only reason i sold it was i prefer jazz sized necks.
7. OMG, its one of "those" threads a day or two early. What does it matter as far as re sale goes? It says made in the USA on the head stock anyway so the sticker proves nothing, and it wont make any difference to its value if the bass has been played. Ive never heard of anyone asking for more money because a bass still has a sticker on it.
8.
Hi Dave, its a great head for sure and as you say build quality and finish are both excellent. Its just a case that I find the Shuttle 9 suits me a bit better. Not much in it tbh - I just miss the extra bit of top end thAt I get from the Shuttle. This head is on hold for a couple of days for a potential buyer
I know what you mean, thats also the reason im keeping the F1 on standby. Good luck with the sale.
9. My STL600 is the first GB amp ive ever used. Lovely build and the blue LED's make it look just that bit more special. Ive had loads of people asking about it at gigs, none of them bass players.
10. Paul, What dont you like about it? If you recall i was selling mine to get a F1 but after a few more gigs with it i decided to have both. I must admit im still not 100% with mine but sticking with it. Its a great head but completely different tone to what im used to.
11. Sorry to drag this up again. GW, can i ask if you had to do any work to the neck pocket to get the neck to fit? I understand about having to get the holes drilled in the neck but other thna that was it a good fit. Im about to buy a MM2909 neck and just wanted to check first. Cheers.
12.
Hi, where did you buy it? Thanks, Jerry
I got my Fender up from Thomanns. At the time (a few months ago) i couldn't find one in stock over here for under £90+.
13.
It's not a standard Jazz, it didn't have the exposed polepiece pickups. The top of the pickups had distinct rounded edges, I was watching in HD! I was also listening closely as I thought he was a very tasty player with lovely melodic basslines as a counterpoint to the rap style vocal.
I dont know why i put Squier, i meant MIA, although like you say, the pups arent standard. I think he normally uses a active jazz. And yes, a very tasty player.
14.
I'd thank you Dave in my next release. You are top of my list of people to be thank after Keira Knighley, the entire cast and crew of all 6 Star Wars films, everyone on Basschat, the entire female population of Sweden, Subaru, Fender, Musicman, Warwick, MarkBass, Genz Benz, my friends and family, anyone thats been to the Monaco GP including the King and his daughters, nieces and cousins, Guinness including past and present employees, all the ladies of riverdance including Michael Flatley, the population of Tulamore for making the finest Irish Whiskey, Finland and fellow rally fans around the world, Renault for making great racing cars, people who make nice lakes and mountains around the world so we can feel all warm and fuzzy when we visit them on our holidays, my sister old cat called Tallula and then you Dave. :)
Well, you wouldn't be where you are now without us all.
15.
I get the whole advertising gear on TV and stage thing but not so sure I am with you on the thanks in the CD booklet. You do build relationships with these people and sometimes its more than doing just their jobs. You are trying to get these people to work for you and hard for you and to have them on your side for next time.
Yep, nothing wrong with keeping people sweet, especially the ones you appreciate. Some do go on a bit though, thanking everyone they have come in to contact with over the last 30 years is a bit too much lol.
16.
Might be a daft question and probably covered elsewhere, but why did Plan B's bassist have the logo of his bass taped over, was he otherwise in breach of an endorsement deal or something?
He also did the same at the Isle of wight festival. I also noticed he had no pickguard on which left a large gap showing in the body. I really like his style and his tone.
17.
Thanks for the offer Dave, but I've decided to go for the Fender Original '62 P Bass Pickup. Cheers Brian
Good choice, thats the one i have in my CV P at the moment.
18.
Hi, I've been contemplating getting one of these to control unwanted boom on hollow stages. Having read a couple of posts on here I am getting concerned that because I am only using one small cab a bergantino AE112 I wil lose a lot of umph and wanted bass coupling. Any thoughts I was convinced up until reading this as there are hundreds of good reviews. Any thoughts?
I find using one with my 1212L gets me a cleaner, as in less muddy tone on the hollow wooden stages you often find in Social clubs and pubs. I've never like elevating my cab off the ground due to the loss of low end (or seeming loss of low end) but the Gramma pad helps keep the low end but reduces the cloud of mud that you normally get. Its not perfect and it wont preform miracles but for hollow stages its a must. I use mine for every gig now, if nothing else it helps get the small rig a bit higher. As for carrying it, i just use the handle :-)
19.
I've been gassing for a P for some time now, and have decided to put one together myself. I've acquired a Squier VM body, and a Mighty Mite neck, and was wondering what type of pups would be best to get that classic thunderous "thump" of a P. I am considering the Seymour Duncan 1/4 Pounders and Wizard Thumpers. Do you have any other suggestions to give me that classic P-Bass thump? And how much difference do the pots make? Any advice would be very welcome.
I have a Wizard thumper sitting around at home at the moment. Im not going to sell it but im not going to use it for at least a month. Your welcome to borrow it if you wanted it try it out for a few weeks. I actually thought it was still in my CV P last week. I remember putting a Fender 62 RI pup in the bass as an experiment but thought i had taken it out. So, there's another suggestion. The Fender 62RI is also a good, not too expensive thumpy pup. Probably a bit more open and not quite as dark as the Thumper, but still with plenty of thump.
20. Ive got a Streamliner and its great for that old tube tone but i also like the Markbass/BDDI tone, probably a bit better. To me its a bit more modern, with more sparkle.
21. Whatever next, frets that are at an angle to make playing them easier? The mind boggles at what people dream up
22. This thread made me go back and look at my old Lakland's. This one seems to be offset although i didnt notice it at the time. This seems to be fine
23. The name rings a bell. Have you got a pic of it? Im sure i had a Keyboard head made by McGregor years (and years) ago.
24.
Fender Regie Hamilton Sig STD. MIM- great quality- Am STD P pup,Noisless J, active/passive. Wicked bass. Not pricey, well here at least.
wow, another bass ive never looked in to before and it seem almost perfect.
