1.
Have to admit I was kindof the same, Dave, though have also started to look at them in a different light. Was in fact very tempted by the one Wayne has just bought, though as I`ve just agreed a deal on a Squier CV Jazz, I`m not too upset that Wayne got there first
Well a CV Jazz is not second prize IMO. I love basses with jazz sized necks, prefer a P but having a PJ is even better, love blocked necks etc so i cant understand why i dont have a Jag yet. Maybe by the end of the year but no GAS for one yet.
2. Can you post up any images or links to the bag? Cheers.
3. Ive always hated the look of the Jag. My singer had the guitar version for a while last year and i thought it looked like a toy. For some strange reason though im now quite intrigued by them now. other than all those switches and dials, plus the funny shape, they do seem like they would be my ideal bass. Be sure to let us know how it goes Wayne.
4. After owning a SA450 for a few years (and a LMII during that time) and thinking these were small and light, im amazed at some of the micro heads these days. They make the LMII look like a beast lol.
5. So many MB heads up for sale at the moment type of Bump.
6. I struggle at every gig with my main band, due to the drummer being all over the place and not having any idea about music and what's required. I also feel like my playing is getting worse sometimes as there really isnt much to play off. The other band i (used) to play in is completely the opposite, although both bands are very similar, and i get a good work out with the drummer and its very enjoyable. I should do something about it but my band does have its moments so im not going to walk away from it. Its my choice so if i stay i cant complain (much)
7. I sold mine as soon as i took them off, sorry.
8. Yeah, that would be good. Im gigging every sat between now and mid Oct so it might be tricky due to sunday's being "family days" but im sure we can sort something out.
9.
Ooh that would be nice as we can compare it back to back with the shuttle and even do some sound samples to post on here.
Well, ill leave that bit to you lol.
10.
Yeah I love playing fretless, most amazig thing ever. You will have to come to mine one day for a cuppa and some playing of gear. You can try out some fretless's and bring your MarkBass head if you like. I can pick you up from the station also.
Sounds like a good plan. I could bring the Streamliner over as well.
11. You seem to be really getting in to the Fretless side Michael. Something i need to dip my toe (or finger) in at some point.
12. Mart, I have a MBSA450 for sale if its any use to you. Im not looking to trade as im already sorted for a new amp but thought i would mention it as you originally said you wanted to move up.
13.
I recently fitted a set of DR's & found the same... Didn't like the feel, didn't like the sound...all gnarly & no warmth... they're coming off after 1 gig!.. back to D'addario EXL 170-5's for me.... I don't think I've ever not liked a set of strings so much before!... That surprised me...
Same here. Although i love the EXL's i can happily use most other strings, but the DR's just felt wrong to me. I wish i had tried them on my P bass before selling them but the colour was wrong so didnt bother.
14.
anyone mentioned Ibanez yet? Get an early Blazer bass - very affecting P bass sounds. Mine's 1981. Original case, imported from the US, would NEVER sell.
My very first Bass was a Blazer, they had only just been released. I dont remember how it sounded but i do remember it looked really smart.
15.
I did enjoy Paul Rogers and an augmented band cover some of their songs with May and Taylor otherwise it is just too weak for me. ..again IMHO.
Same here. Ive not seen the programs this thread is talking about (yet) but i did catch a fairly recent gig with Rogers and i much prefer him as a front man. There, ive said it. Im not saying he is better, just that i personally prefer him. I also liked some of the Bad Company/Free songs they did, good songs with a new sound.
16.
what else is there that can trump a well made American Standard?
A Squier CV or Matt Freeman of course (at least, in all the important area's)
17. I also got myself one (limited edition version) over the weekend and its a fantastic head. I dont need it, cant afford it, might not even use it much but after trying it out on two gigs i had to have it. I love MB heads and the F1 is my favourite. As im getting rid of my much loved SA450 i felt i really should keep a MB head of some sort and the F1 is ideal. Good luck with the sale.
18. Its taken me until i decided to sell the SL600 to actually like it. Bloody typical. Now i have two heads i love (3 including the SA450). Washburn Ab10 eh? My mate has one of those and ive been meaning to borrow it for years. I must admit i struggled to fret the notes cleanly.
19. Cheers guys. Michael, im keeping my SL600 as my main head but have brought (or will do very soon) Clarkys F1 as a back up, and aslo for when i fancy a different tone.
20.
My Schroeder 1212L is light and loud and I like the sound but it's a piece of sh*t really. Just some hacked together panels and speakers that the dust caps like to separate from and buzz like arse, I'd expect better for the money tbh.
Funny you should mention the dust cap. About two gigs after i first got my 1212L i had the same thing happen. I hadn't had this before so ended practically taking the whole cab apart looking for the source of the buzz. To their credit i emailed both Jorg and SHX music and got a replacement driver within two days, plus i still have the original driver which i plan on fixing and putting in to a small 1x12 cab. Ive heard horror stories about some of the badly made cabs that have come from Schroeder but both mine have been very well made. I do wonder why they are so expensive though.
21. I totally forgot about this thread. To be honest ive not looked any further. I think price wise its around £70 so not cheap enough to replace either my PX4D or Ipod touch with iRig.
22.
To be fair, I would have been tempted a few days ago but, I've already bought a head and cab and now I need the money more than ever haha. Thanks for the offer though.
I think its for the best. I know how tight money is these days. Good luck.
23.
I am sorted now thanks, JT
I was going to mention this yesterday but i have loads so didnt need the one you gave me :-)
24. Its probably a great bass but to me it looks like its made by Ikea and comes flat packed.
25.
You can quite easily roll back the mids to tame a 1212, the mid grunt is a mixed blessing as it gives so much perceived volume without cranking the amp, you kind of get used to having it there all the time. Coupled with an Auralex Gramma i could wind the amp up and still get the immense volume without boominess. Err, a bit OT!
Agreed. I love the close up mid tone i get, yet out front the lows seem to be more prominent and so sound smoother. Two tones in one. I also use a Gramma pad and its very handy for our social club gigs. Sorry Sparky, no more of this silly Schroeder talk.
