I had my first play through a cab last night. Lovely tone, especially the highs. I think the high knob will be a lot more useful than on my MB heads. I did feel the SL600 wasnt as full on, in your face as the MB heads but the quality of tone was nicer and this was to be expected, so its not a minus, just something ill need to get used to. I feel the input stage might take some getting used to. I dont think i can really do that until i've done a few gigs with it. It does seem like its not going to distort like i had dreaded so thats good, same with the Gain button engaged. I guess ill need to start at 12 o'clock on both and work it from there but any tips on what works well to get an almost clean tone with a passive P bass would help. I guess i'll be wanting to optimise the volume through the input stage so i expect ill use the gain button on all the time. I sort of wish i had got the 900 now but this is all based on 10 mins with the head going through a low powered 15" so im not making any plans to upgrade just yet. WoT. I noticed you had the gain button engaged in your videos. Do you find this makes much difference to the tone? I know it will boost the input and i expect ill use it all the time but im just wondering if you use it because it boosts the input or if its to get a bit more dirt out of the amp. I have these questions because i expect ill have less than 30 mins to play around with the amp between now and next Sat's gig so any tips will be appreciated, although of course taken in context that we all like different tones and play differently. Bottom line is im very pleased with the head, it will take some getting used to but ill definitely sell the SA450, if nothing else it will force me to stick with the new one.

Cheers Fran. I was going to get in touch over the weekend. It was seeing yours that convinced me its a good idea. Does that neck have vintage frets? This is a must for me and most of the cheaper necks (under £200) that ive seen have the medium Jumbo frets. Nothing wrong with that but if im going to replace a neck i love it will have to be what i want rather than what i can get if that makes sense, and these seem to cost quite a bit more than my original budget.

Cheers John. I think getting one made would be too expensive, or rather out of my budget, but its a good idea about seeing if Sims have any lying around. Its not like i need anything special, just a standard vintage fretted Jazz neck. I was just looking on WD but they dont have anything i fancy. I wonder if I've set my budget too low.

Glad your happy, nice change from the Basses that have been arriving eh? I put my PC through it (at work) yesterday using the headphone out from the PC and just used a lead that has a stereo mini jack at each end, with the amp end having a mini to 1/4" headphone adaptor on it. It worked well although as we know the left and right were summed to mono. I think all that Genz stuff is a bit long winded.

Ok, to answer my own question i can get one that perfect from Warmothh but its not going to be cheap.

As much as i love my CV P with its CV Jazz neck i would love a maple neck. I would like to get a new neck with more or less the same spec, so thats a 1.5" nut and vintage frets and a 9.5" (10.5" would be ideal) radius The other reason i want a neck is that if i start to use my CV Jazz that will also need a Jazz neck on it. Im going to look around but thought i would ask here as well. I know about Allparts, MightyMite and Warmoth but have no experience with them so ill look at those first. I know the necks are well respected but how complete are they when they arrive? I really dont want to have to do any work on this neck, other than to fit the tuners but i have a feeling they need ot be drilled for attaching to the bass. Is this easy to do? I have a drill but not a lot of patience. Cheers for any help.

I only ever use one cab, my 1212L 4ohms but i wont get to try that until soundcheck (hopefully we will get one) next weekend so my 1x15 MAG will have to do. I work in a printers. Im the only one in my room so i have a combo stashed away behind the copier. I dont use it during the day but as i have keys im free to coem and go as i please so its great to have somewhere to go at weekends where i can let rip. As sod's law will have it the local Maplins dont have a Speakon to jack adaptor so the best i can do today is to play through headphones, and being lazy i plugged the Spirit by Steinberger in with its 7+ years old strings. All sounds pretty good though. Even with these old strings there is a nice top end. I was going to plug the FX send in to the MAG's return but ill not bother tonight. To be honest i was just making sure it all works. After KJung's issues i didnt want to take any chances. Gareth. Have you opened your boxes yet?

Ive plugged mine in (as opposed to plugging in to it) and all seems to be working fine. I wanted to make sure the LEDs all lit up etc. I cant wait until everyone goes home from work tonight so i can have a play. I even brought my CV Jazz in to work. Shame im going to have to go through my Ashdown combo's 1x15 speaker rather than my 1212L but im sure its going to sound fantastic anyway.

I believe GB will be releasing some rack ears very soon so it will be rackable, just not yet. I might rack mine in my Gigskinz 2U rack bag if i dont sell it will my SA450, and the rack kit isn't silly money.

Mines just been delivered :-) Ive not opened it yet but the box looks in good condition.

Although my cab is quite coloured im hoping this amp will add a bit more depth to it, plus if it has a slight mid scoop that will help replace the BDDI. Its going to be a long day. Ive also just ordered a Gigskinz small mixer bag for it. £46 inc next day delivery. I thought that was a pretty good price. i'll need to fit my radio system and a few leads in the pockets. Im hoping it will hold everything.

My SL600 is also coming tomorrow from the same place. Good times, until the CC bill arrives. My small(er) amp quest all started a few months back when i was at the Gallery and saw a small GK head. I still want something even smaller but after so long with MB heads im looking forward to a change. SA450 will be up for sale in a couple of weeks. Oh, and who's the bugger that brought the last SL600 from the gallery this morning lol. Snatched from right under my nose :-)

Ive got about 3 Bass Tee shirts in my wardrobe at home, the best one is the Orange/grey Bass chat one but ive not worn it much. Ped was selling them here a while ago, might be worth sending him a Pm if you fancy one.

I cant really comment on the differences wood etc make, certainly not with authority, but i do know that my Squier CV Jazz and HW-one Jazz sounded very, very different with the same pups and stings (literally). Ive also not really noticed much difference between the Squier HM bridge, the Fender vintage bridge and a Gotoh 201 bridge, tone wise, when i went through them on my Squier. I love the HM bridges for their looks but i wouldn't buy one to change the tone or sustain. With the rise in popularity that Squier are now getting with the CV and VM lines it just shows that you dont need to spend a fortune to get a decent "Fender".

Its free, just like this one, but you can buy add ons like amps and FX. Im also a fan of the SVX version (and dont really use that much these days) so i don't really have a need for this version but its nice to get something decent for free, so you cant knock IKM.
