1. Yeah, keep us posted. I cant remember what year mine was, i dont think it had Aero's but you never know.
2.
Thats the same that I found with mine, wasn't sure if it was my imagination after seeing all the reviews about the tone of the bass. But it does seem very weak and a bit "hifi" for my liking. It's such a lovely bass in every other way so i'd hate to part with it. Decided on the Wizard 84's so hopefully they will help.
Compared to my stock Fender HW1 i had at the time it was like night and day. Maybe it was more down to having the HW1 and loving the burpy tone i could get from it. I did regret selling mine, especially as i had spent over £350 on it getting it converted in to a PJ but i was never going to be happy. Good luck with the 84's. I had a set in my CV Jazz but i felt they were just a bit too dark so i got Andy to make me a set of 74's, half way between the 84's punch and the 64's classic tone. The 74's work well but again, when i put them in my HW-one they really brought the bass alive so maybe its the bass as they definitely sound different in my CV Jazz.
3. Bugger. I keep reading references to the GB Streamliner and each time i do i get a bit of wind (Want It Now Dammit) Just as well my funds have run out.
4. I had a DJ5 and in my opinion it was the worst Jazz bass ive every heard. Played and looked fantastic but even compared to my Squier i felt it sounded woolly and lack punch and bite. I put some Nordstrand's in it (as a PJ) but i felt it still lacked something. I sold it. Personally i would go for a set of Wizards but even my set have sounded quite different in two different Jazz basses.
5.
thanks gus for all the useful advice, I will try everythig tomorrow night that i can with the amp. i'll post how i get on
Just dont take my advice and post on the EBMM forums. This is an old issue and there is no one fix. A lot can depend on how you play, what tone you go for etc. Certainly keeping the low end at bay will help but even that might be a too drastic change in your tone for your liking. Ive had the same issues as you yet someone else has picked my bass up and its sounded fine, although it's not been the tone i would have gone for. Good luck. For me a MM has been a bit of a compromise as far as tone goes so i gave up on it. I play with a pick so maybe that doesnt help. I will go back to it one day though.
6. I've just seen this posted in a thread on TB Pandora Mini Although i have a PX4D i quite fancy this one as its smaller and USB powered.
7.
I know what you mean. I went in to try the Lakland jazzes and ended up liking the DD the most. It sounded much better than the Fender American Standard P they had, although that was a five string. I'd like to compare it to a 4 string Am Std P cos I don't play five strings. If you could get the DD in another colour I would definitely buy one, although if I can't find something I like more for a similar price then I might just get one anyway!
I've had 2 Skyline Duck Dunn's (3 if you count the one i sent back) and they are truly fantastic basses. I also had a Fender 2008 P5 at the same time i agree, the DD sounded nicer than the Fender, although i felt the Fender had a more Earthy tone. I know Lakland were doing the DD (or 44-64 Custom as its now called) in Teal Green metallic and Inca Silver as limited editions last year but ive never seen one. FWIW i feel my Squier with Jazz neck plays and sounds just as good as the DD's ive had.
8. Im no expert but i do know the bridge pup was moved back a bit in the 70s. I believe it was so it would fit completely under the bridge cover but im not sure thats the whole truth.
9. I do seem to be GAS free at the moment. It was pretty hectic last week as i almost got a new amp and was very tempted by the new Squier Matt Freeman P but after a great gig on Sat im just going to go with what i have for a while longer. I do want a iPad 2 though :-(
10. I think the OP should post this on the EBMM forums, im sure he will get more help. He will then find that its all just his imagination. Sorry, couldn't resist.
11.
i have a mid control on the solid state side and may give this a bit of a go as it does give more control
In my limited experience this happens if you boost the low on the bass too much, and even more so if you lower the mids.
12.
Although in my defence, it was during the one PM per hour (or whatever the restriction was) phase
Wotever
13.
Well, I recall a series of PMs from several people about the Wizard 64s in my Squier CV Jazz about a year ago and I think I recall one of them being from you Dave. If I did fail to reply then I apologise. I realise how frustrating unanswered PMs can be. Mind you, I don't feel I fit the description 'prominent member'.
LOL, thanks but it wasn't you. The culprit knows who he is and we have cleared it up. I was just having a laugh based on a comment made earlier. No big deal.
14. Dont sweat about it, its a friendly forum and no one seem to hold grudges 9for too long). Saying that, its coming up to a year since i PM'd a certain prominent member in this thread and never got a reply ;-)
15. I read this thread last month and have just come to see how it all went. Glad it worked out for the OP but i can see why a few are a bit disappointed. Seeing as the OP posted "after the eBay fiasco " in a new thread 6 days ago i would have thought there was some news to post here before today. Still, alls well that ends well. I've always fancied a Decade myself, what was the ebay guys name again ;-)
16. I see dots before my eyes.....so many dots :-(
17. I also like the machine heads. Although i use a very thin gig bag i dont find my basses go out of tune during transport, and ive never had a bass go out of tune at gigs. As they are something i rarely touch ive never even considered changing them. One on my CV Jazz was slightly faulty when it arrived (buzzing rather than slipping etc) abut a bit of super glue soon fixed that. So, new bass arrived?
18. wow, i had one of these as my second ever bass. From memory it was a great sounding bass.
19. Oh the excitement indeed. Fingers crossed he doesn't break down. I was tempted to order the Matt Freeman yesterday but im loving my CV P too much at the moment. Any mods happening to this one?
20. I think DFS are selling them as well Subscribing with bated breath. Finger crossed it arrives today Fran.
21. Ive often considered a P-Retro so ill be very interested in how you get on with it. I like the P tone, and my CV P seems to nail it perfectly, even better than my old Lakland Duck Dunn's, but i do need a break from it every now and then so keeping my CV Jazz on standby. I really love my CVP but do fancy the Matt Freeman P to replace it as i think it looks fantastic. Thing is i just cant get away from how perfect my CV P is at the moment. If i dont get the MF, and i probably wont just yet, i think ill invest in a nice maple neck like Fran's, although mine would be a Jazz neck. This is the first bass thats really helped keep away the GAS.
22.
The thread's several months old, I bumped it instead of starting a new one. I can't take the bass on board with me because we're on a really strict budget and avoiding all costs that we can (a flight case can be re-used indefinitely so it's not something I'd consider an issue with budget for one trip). Plus with a whole band going, there'd be too much kit between us to try and sneak it on, or potentially even storage if we did get it all on.
Oh yeah, silly me. I was going to unsubscribe but these threads are quite handy to keep track of.
23. I had one of these (2 actually) last year and really, really want another one. I also put a black PG on mine and it was the perfect colour combo. Unfortunately i cant really afford yours at the moment, although i did come in her looking for exactly this model, just on a whim really. One thing i do want to mention is you have said you would prefer pick up but your profile says location unknown. Maybe you should fill in your profile details. Good luck with the sale.I'ill get it next time its doing the rounds.
24.
Yes...shame the price is quite high
Yeah, it looks like Thomanns is still quite a bit cheaper.
