2.
Relax - mine's done loads, and it's fine.
Yeah, im sure its going to be fine, as are the many others out there.
3.
Best edit the post, then - we don't want to mislead anyone, do we? (btw, one of Ken's problems was a dodgy valve, which could have broke during shipping. Just sayin'.)
Done. I really dont want to come across as a GB hater, im not and i love my SL600 so far, but in the past week ive read of 3 faulty heads and this is making me nervous. I know these things happen but they shouldn't, and its the same old argument, great service means nothing if an amp fails mid gig. lets hope this is the end of it for Gareth, its about time he had some good luck and im really looking forward to using mine at its first gig on Sat.
4.
Just out of interest, what was the other dud Genz amp Gareth had?
Sorry, that was a typo, im meant to write Ken Jung, not Gareth.
5.
Crap happens. It's how it's resolved that counts.
Do you work for Ashdown ;-)
6.
Nice to see Fender upholding Genz' reputation, I think.
Well so far Gareth has had one dud amps from Genz and KJung has had two, all with "Passed QC" tags on them. Is that the rep you mean ;-) Only joking (sort of). EDITED to correct my mistake.
7. Great new Gareth, although i would say great service from Fender rather than Genz in this case.
8. I got this last Thursday, brand new. By friday i found a DELL laptop bag at home that fits my amp better (snugger) so i dont need the GS bag now. Its not been used and is in perfect condition. I paid £46 and willing to sell it for £40, inc posting to main land UK, £37 for a local pick up in central London. Cheers.
9. I assume your hearing this with all your basses and not just the active ones, all plugged directly in to the head? I hope you find the cause of this quickly. What with Gareth's issues and now this i do hope this isnt going to be a problematic head.
10. Thanks for the detailed walk through Fran. While im up for giving the holes a go i think i would probably take it to the gallery and get them to do both if it needed a new nut as well. Ill keep looking.
11. I found I have 3 powerleads, all with slightly different ends. One is very loose in the socket but the other two seem to fit pretty tightly and while the whole assembly will move a little if I wiggle the lead there is no movement in the socktet at all. For good measure I tested my ashdown mag and that is a lot looser but still tight in the socket. Garreth, how is the other amp?
12. I have a Gigskinz 2 U rack bag and im very happy with it. I do like the small mixer bag but was disappointed with the small pockets. While i donhave a lot of gear to put in them i know im not goingt to get my leads and radio system in those small pockets. The laptop bag will hold everything, yet is smaller. I am a bit worried about having a laptop bag with DELL on it hanging around though, i feel it might get nicked quicker.
13. Being the paranoid sort ive just gone in to work to test mine. There does seem to be some movement but i couldn't get it to cut out. One other thing im not too happy about is ive just found a Dell Laptop bag at work that fits better than the Gigskinz bag i just got. Bugger :-)
14.
Now that you've highlighted this issue i went back and tried mine again. The socket is solid but moving the lead up or down breaks the connection on mine. Will try another mains cable see if it helps. Bit poor quality for an amp of this calibre. I'm an Instrument Engineer and use these plugs all the time and I've only ever came across this problem with bass amps or equipment ? Weird. !!!! Dave
This isn't good. Have you tried the lead that comes with the amp? I'm wondering if it's slightly different.
15. Good luck with getting this sorted quickly, im sure Darren will pull out all the stops. Does anyone here use a Genz Benz bag for this head? I got the Gigskinz small mixer bag (yes, it does have a smell) but i feel the pockets aren't going to hold all my leads and radio system. The pocket on the GB bag looks bigger.
16.
Tried another, same thing. The whole section where the lead goes in moves! Away from the chassis!
This is pretty poor QC, and i dont care what people say about Genz Benz customer service, if this had happened during a gig you would have been stuffed and no amount of customer service would have helped. Its got me worried now. Not a good start. Think ill hang on to my SA450 for a while.
17.
Depending on the room, I tend to roll the low of to about 10/11 o'clock, and give the low mid a hefty nudge. Dave - my basses are passive, so I usually engage the gain button to compensate. It'll still run clean with the button in, but it does feel livelier.
Cheers. I did try your video settings and yes, its pretty clean still but louder, just what i wanted. Do you find a cut off point with the Pre volume (not the gain) where it will distort in a nasty way if its turned up too mch, or doesnt it work like that?
18. Well considering I nearly always used my MB heads flat I'm hoping the same goes for this. Saying that I have been using a touch of BDDI but I'm hoping I can drop that. It's early days but I am very confident that other than a touch of EQ at some of the more difficult gigs I'll be running flat. Hopefully by the time I've sold my SA450 and BDDI this new head would have cost almost nothing.
19. Ive not played my P through mine yet, only my Jazz.
20. Well i promise no Mustang Sally but i will upload something if i can. Brown eyed girl anyone lol. Raggy, me too. I know ill really love it once i start using it. We have to play two Bob Marley songs next sat. First time we would have played them together as a band. Its going to sound pants but I cant wait to whack the low end up, even with my small cab.
21.
I'll be very interested to see the results with your 1212L.
I tend to record all our gigs so if i manage ot get through a song with no mistakes ill post something. Mustang Sally will never have sounded so good lol.
22. I had my first play through a cab last night. Lovely tone, especially the highs. I think the high knob will be a lot more useful than on my MB heads. I did feel the SL600 wasnt as full on, in your face as the MB heads but the quality of tone was nicer and this was to be expected, so its not a minus, just something ill need to get used to. I feel the input stage might take some getting used to. I dont think i can really do that until i've done a few gigs with it. It does seem like its not going to distort like i had dreaded so thats good, same with the Gain button engaged. I guess ill need to start at 12 o'clock on both and work it from there but any tips on what works well to get an almost clean tone with a passive P bass would help. I guess i'll be wanting to optimise the volume through the input stage so i expect ill use the gain button on all the time. I sort of wish i had got the 900 now but this is all based on 10 mins with the head going through a low powered 15" so im not making any plans to upgrade just yet. WoT. I noticed you had the gain button engaged in your videos. Do you find this makes much difference to the tone? I know it will boost the input and i expect ill use it all the time but im just wondering if you use it because it boosts the input or if its to get a bit more dirt out of the amp. I have these questions because i expect ill have less than 30 mins to play around with the amp between now and next Sat's gig so any tips will be appreciated, although of course taken in context that we all like different tones and play differently. Bottom line is im very pleased with the head, it will take some getting used to but ill definitely sell the SA450, if nothing else it will force me to stick with the new one.
23.
Yes the frets are exactly the same size as the ones on the CV they are vintage size ones. You'll be hard pressed to find a difference before and after in either feel or action.
Fantastic, cheers. Did this come pre drilled for fixing to the body, and did it have a nut? I dont supose you have the model number do you?
24. Cheers Fran. I was going to get in touch over the weekend. It was seeing yours that convinced me its a good idea. Does that neck have vintage frets? This is a must for me and most of the cheaper necks (under £200) that ive seen have the medium Jumbo frets. Nothing wrong with that but if im going to replace a neck i love it will have to be what i want rather than what i can get if that makes sense, and these seem to cost quite a bit more than my original budget.
25. Cheers guys. Rasta, i got your PM, much appreciated and ill get in touch with this guy. I cant seem to find much info on the MM website about the necks so ill need to speak to this guy but it sounds like just the ticket.
