G.[/quote] Tried both cutting the mids and the pickguard ;-) I use a BDDI and this does give a mid cut. I could live with the Thumper if i could get the PG to fit but as i'll have to mess around i do fancy chaning the pup to something less dark sounding.

Hi Gareth. Ive only just noticed all this (i dont spend as much time on here these days). I'm really gutted for you. After such a long wait and spending all that money i would be very upset. Im going to read the EBMM thread later but i hope you get this all resolved as soon as possible. IMO Its all very well having good customer service in getting this rectified but it shouldn't have happened in the first place. @Grand Wazoo. when i was over on the EBMM forums last year you seemed quite high profile over on there. I didnt realise you were banned. I would never have expect it.

Cheers Clarky, thats perfect, in fact better than that as he has listed the dimensions as well. This is to replace my Thumper and i need a slightly smaller pup (which looks like the Fender is). While i wanted it by the weekend i can wait until next week if i have to. Its funny but i check eBay yesterday and didnt come up with anything in the UK.

I had though of speaking to Andy at Wizard and asking him to make me something a bit smaller, i could even send him the stock pup covers but to be honest i still dont know where i am with all this. I've got two pickguards that both needed filing down for the Thumper, but Andy said they are standard Fender covers. The PG is supposed to be standard as well so something is out. Looking on the Seymour Duncan website all their dimensions are slightly smaller than the Thumper, and would fit the PG, assuming they are accurate. Its not easy finding accurate dimensions for other makes. I know what you mean about hot pickups, one reason i wont go for a SDQP, and a reason for wanting to try something other than the Thumper, something more vintage. I might speak to Andy and get him to measure his vintage pup, maybe that would work. I also dont want to spend a lot on this bass at the moment so a more up market pup is out of the question, and i assume a custom made pup might be a bit higher than i want to pay, but i will look in to this.

I know im one of the main culprits so i dont mind. Like i said, now the price has gone up im not so defensive about them. I do think the new CA's will something special though. Apparently the finish is better, it more closely matches the real Classic and it has the perfect neck for me. Who knows, only timer will tell but im sure we will cross swords again ;-)

Cheers Chris. I was looking in to the SD Antiquity II today but its a bit more than i want to pay (new at least). Are you talking about the Antiquity 1 (twin coil)? Getting new covers for the Thumper was my first thought but looking at them i dont think they will go in anything smaller. I compared them to the stock pup and there is no way it would fit the cover, and i dont want to start filing the pickup down. I did look around for some covers but its been difficult finding any with dimensions listed. Im pretty much sold on getting a new pup though so ill keep looking around.

My 2 Squiers CV's are 20mm and i found this to be a bit uncomfortable. I put a Fender Vintage bridge on the P as this has grooved saddles so you can adjust the string spacing, although not by much. Th eP now has the standard 19mm Goto 201 on it. Schaller make some nice bridges with adjustable string spacing, and Wilkinson make some nice cheap versions of these. There is a thread on TB about bridges and string spacing, and if i recall the Kahler Hybrid 7440 will go down to 14mm but i expect its very expensive. One of the reasons i like playing 5 string is the narrower string spacing.

And there have been loads of SR4's for sale in the past year or so. I do know some owners have rated them above their own SR4's though but ive also read negative reports of SR4's anyway. One thing i noticed recently was that Thomanns are asking over £800 for a Ray34. My argument has always been based on the Ray34 costing around £540-£570 (Soundslive are still doing the black one for this price) but over £800 is more than a second hand SR4. This might not be their typical selling price in this country but its a lot of money and i would definitely have seconds thoughts before paying this much.

Nicely played. I like how clean your playing is. I've been playing this on and off for a couple of year but only recently sat down to learn it properly. I think the part in the chorus where Elvis sings "...are on their way" is F#- G# (G# - A# after the key change). I hadn't noticed this until the other night.

Ive mentioned this a few times in other threads but i really want to put a black PG on my CV P bass. I have the guard but the pup cut out is too small for the Thumper. I could file it down, and indeed have started to but i think with my lack of tools and skill, combined with my lack of patience i think its going to be easier, and neater to change the pup. Just recently ive been finding my tone to be a bit low mid heavy, maybe a bit too much, so i was thinking about doing this anyway. I would love another Fralin but i dont really want to spend that much, maybe £60 max. Having checked the Seymour Duncan spec's it looks like all their pups fit ok so i was thinking either a SPB-1, or maybe even a Fender Vintage pup. Any thoughts, suggestions etc? Cheers.
