One thing that strikes me is that with all you lot buying them, i feel maybe some kids just starting out who cant afford much might have made better use of them, but now they have all been sold to gather dust in peoples bedrooms. Just a thought. @Gareth. I can understand buying just one, even i would have done that as my son wants a bass, its those buying up all they can lay their hands on, or so desperate to get one because everyone else has one i cant figure out. I wonder how they compare to a bottom of the line Squier?
 2.
I have stayed out of this...but a bass for £60 that isn't in a skip...???? really..??
I must admit i cant see why people are buying so many. I bet no one here will gig them that much. I can understand buying them as a project bass but even so, to what end? spend money and/or time on them and then what? Still, no offence to anyone here, i just dont get it.
 3.
Just noticed you have a Wizard Thumper on your Precision. I heard very good stuff about that one. I'm looking for a pickup that will be rich in mids and enhance the growl of my bass... do you think I'll be on teh right track with the Thumper? Got any clips?
I would say it will get you the tone your after. Ive certainly noticed more growl from my bass sinc ei put this pup in, and more punch and a more solid mid range. I've not tried the Vintage pup, nor any other pup other than the Squier one, but after asking around on here and speaking to Andy the Thumper seemed to be the one to go for, and my goal was probably close to yours. I dont have any solo clips, and have posted some live footage in the show us you playing video thread but i dont think that will help much. Sorry.
 4.
I like the idea of a tuner, but already having a Boss TU2, wouldn`t change my Classic for the RH. Not interested in pre-sets, as once I have a good sound, I just stick with it. I`m very much a supporting bassist.
Same here. After i realised i never tune up during a gig, only the one time at sound check, i felt paying more of a built in tuner was not really practical, no matter how many lights it had on it. As for pre-sets/EQ, although i realise the TC is different form my MB SA450 that i run almost flat, i doubt i would use more than one EQ setting at a gig. I really wish i had taken one of the the classics's that were on here in Dec now. Hmmm, anyone want a SA450 lol.
 5.
For me, the tuner alone is just about justification! I know I can always use a separate tuner, but it's more bits & a battery to maintain. The fact that the tuner is *always* there and on is brilliant. I'm also swung by the coolness of it - and the fact its settings are *so* visible in a dark venue. The presets - wanted them, but don't use them too much. The one slight benefit that the Classic has (other than price) is the dedicated Compressor knob, where the RH450 has it as a shift function. Ultimately, though, my philosophy has tended to be: if in doubt, go higher end. The pain of the cost is quickly forgotten, but the benefits are there fore ever.
yeah, this is how i feel as well. It was seeing MarloweDK using one on youtube, specifically seeing the tuner all lit up, that first alerted me to these heads and i think the tuner is a fantastic idea.
 6.
I never knew about this. We get phantom sent anyway since our synth player takes it for his DIs. Thanks Dan
Im not sure if anyone answered your question about the BDDI having a un effected output but yes, it has a direct out (on jack only though) as well as effected XLR/jack. From the manual. "PARALLEL OUTPUT: 1/4 unbalanced direct output is hard-wired parallel with input jack. Instrument signal passes through, UNEFFECTED, to the input of your stage amplification system." With the BDDI you can turn the tube effect off by turning the blend control all the way to the left. This will leave you with just active EQ. Ive not used the DI out from mine as i will normally use the DI on the back of my amp, with it switched to pre EQ but its handy to have more than one, just in case.
 7. Looks like bonfire night will have a few brighter fires this year lol.
 8.
One thing i have not considered until now is turning the bass EQ down on the bass and then up on the amp, maybe that may work ??? Any thoughts ?
I would try that, it sort of worked for me. Both my SUB and Ray34 (yes Pete, i know its not a real SR4 ) had this issue, my Ray34 even had a Nordy in it which helped a bit but not 100%. I found the low freqs could overpower the G string, especially at the first 5-6 frets. Higher up it wasn't too bad. With the mid knob flat or cut on my 3 band EQ Ray34 the G would easily get lost. With it boosted the G would be more prominent, although not it a P bass like way. I also found the Nordy changed the overall tone to a slightly more mellow one. I know load so fpeopel love this pup but i found it a bit bland. I also think its down to playing style as well, this would explain why only certain people find this issue. I play most of the time with a pick and found this didn't help. Playing with fingers made quite a difference. There is no conclusive answer, but most people do figure out what works best for them, and others dont have this issue anyway. As for the pole pieces theory. I tapped the E-A-D pole pieces down in my SUB so that all 4 strings were the same height. It made little difference IMO.
 9. Ive got a few of OBBM's cables and have had no problems with them. I do tend to make my own now though. Its cheaper (for me) to just cut and re wire my older leads if they start playing up. I have a couple of long leads i "corrected" a few years back and these are still working fine in our PA. As long as you use good components and do a decent job they should last just as long as any off the shelf lead. No disrespect to OBBM but I think its worth learning how to fix your own leads, you never know when you might need to do this in an emergency. Oh, and another happy BDI21 owner. Its been replaced by a BDDI for gigs but that was mainly as i wanted one for gigging and one for permanent fixture at home. I keep thme on all the time, just sitting on my amp so i guess they dont get a lot of abuse.
 10.
. A guy I've had the pleasure of working with just retired from the road, after raising NINE kids solely on a musicians wage, and has toured the world many times with many huge acts - chances are you've seen him play but you'd never know his name. And he's just turned 65.
Raising or fathering?
 11. This is a thread i started last year. It contains lots of very helpful soldering tips (mostly from icastle) Soldering a P bass.
 12. All good advice. The only thing i can add is to try and get in to an established, or gigging band rather than start one. Its a lot less hassle and if it doesn't work out with them you have at least gained some experience and maybe some contacts. Although i gig most weekends doing this sort of thing i would never give up my day job. Its not great but it pays the bills and its a guaranteed income. Ive often thought about what it would be like to gig for a living but i dont think i would want to. I like the idea that at weekends (sometimes during the week) i can go off and do what i enjoy without it being a drag, and it means i have two incomes :-) I do know people who do make a living out of this and they hate it. The money is good but its the same thing, week in week out. Guess its not for everybody.
 13. There are a couple of huge threads on TalkBass about these amps, loads of info and comparisons there.
 14. Maybe not the best (although i think so) but you cant go wrong with the Squier CV range IME.
 15.
As in the title, what is the worst bass line you play in a set or have played in a set? The song itself you might quite like, it could be a favourite but the bass line sucks.
for me its a toss up between Walking on sunshine and Funky Music. Its 3 1/2 mins of pure hell for me as i know how the rhythm goes to both but cant play it due to my drummer playing every rhythm but the correct one. Way too much shuffle and ghost strokes.
 16.
That luminlay looks worth trying. It would be perfect if it would somewhat charge on it's own from normal stage lights and provide enough glow for when the lights are temporarily dark. I think I'll give this a try too
I like the fact that they can turn an ordinary LED keyring torch in to "a special LED light charger". Must be something special ;-) Looks like a good product though. If i wasn't so rubbish and impatient with woodworking i would give them a go. I look forward to seeing the results you guys get.
 17.
Basswood is a better wood (even from lesser cuts I think...) Than Agathis as it has a clearer tone and more even sound no? Plus its light great wood if you ask me!
No comment on whether its better (my CV P is basswood but "better" would be down to personal tastes IMO) but i have always assumed its cheaper. My CVP is light but my CV Jazz (also basswood) weighed the same as my HW-one Jazz which was Alder.
 18. This is just IMO but to me it looks like the difference is because the passive bass has block inlays, matching headstock and Duncan designed pups. The Special is also basswood, where as the passive is Agathis. The active bass probably has standard Squier pups and a cheap preamp that probably doesn't cost much to make so wouldn't make a big difference to the cost. So, again, IMO, the passive is a bit more special than the special lol.
 19.
Hi Yep play there a lot. As long as you cover the dance area you are ok. We are using a K-array Redline 200 systems for this (about 4k)
Thanks Crez. We have played to around 400 with just our small PA and, like you say, its really just to cover the dance floor, but we would really be pushing it and the quality would be pretty poor. Its not until Dec anyway so we have plenty of time to sort something out.
 20.
Friday at Cheers.OK & a reasonable crowd who were into it, which was nice. Bizarre moment of the night though, the power tripped on the last crash of the last song of the second set
Whenever we do a wedding that has a meter we try and trip it at that point (assuming its the last song of the night, with no DJ ect after us). It helps clear the dance floor and gives us an excuse not to play any encores. Ive only had two gigs this year, im really missing them. Sat night are bloody boring. Still, we now have a run of 7 gigs in a row so thats something to look forward to. A bit OT but has anyone played the Ballroom at the Waldorf Hotel in London? Im trying to gauge what size PA to bring as there are 330 guests so i think we will need to hire something in.
 21. I was watching Comedy Rocks the other night, Mcfly were the house band and im sire i noticed (wasnt really paying attention to them) the bass player's White Stingray had LED's on it. It looked pretty cool IMO.
 22. This thread is not helping me clear my credit cards lol. I sold my LMII end of last year and planned to get a TC classic to replace it, and hopefully then sell my SA450 as well as i dont need two heads. I too dont really need it use the EQ on my SA450 and play with my BDDI on all the time, doing covers from 50's to modern day, although majority from the 60s-70s. I hoped to get Clarky's but missed out on it end of last year. I had forgotten all about getting one until i saw this thread, and especially those pics posted above, now i want one again. Subscribing to see how it goes as i feel my needs are very close to Muzz's
 23. You should try putting these in one of the for sale forums ;-)
 24.
PORT TOO ! Blimey............. The scratches don't matter - think positive, at least it works .
Yeah, its not going to affect the playing (unlike the Port hic ;-), its just a shame it happened on a white bass as it really is noticeable.
 25.
It suits the lad. Status apparently do nice double ball end strings and not too expensive.
Cheers, ill have look for some later.
