LOL, we all know its not identical, why dont we just take it on its own merits? Think what you will, and we know your views on these basses, but if others like them they cant be as bad as you keep telling us.

Having owned a Ray34 and loved it, and having owned an Sub and liked it but felt it felt a bit cheap im looking forward to the new Ray34. Not saying i will get one but it certainly appeals to me more than any other non SLO MM ive seen, mainly for the neck size. And no way would i pay full price for a SR4 SLO. I wouldn't want mutes on so at least i wouldn't be paying for something i didn't want.
True. I didn't see your edit of the spec. There looks to be enough of a difference between these and their big brothers (slab body, J width neck) to not encroach upon business. In fact I can see why they've done it now.
Yea,h i forgot to post the specs the first time around. Considering its got a slim neck and is based on the 2EQ i think the price difference will be greater between this and a real MM with the same spec. I've been after a SLO for ages but they are way out of my price range, this might be ideal. Its also in exactly the right colour as i miss my MIA Jazz with 3TSB and maple neck. Right then, who wants t buy a HW-one Jazz lol
Presumably they are confident that it won't come close to a 2eq 'ray and subsequently impact on sales. Either that or they've not learned their lesson from the SUB.
I expect this will get the same negative response from people who already know how these play and sound, and will suggest getting a second hand SR4 instead ;-)

Well if its true that these have a 38mm nut my bass GAS just reached a new level.
Exactly how it should be. I ended up buying my Roadworn after specifically NOT wanting a roadworn! I was part of the clan that thought you would be paying extra just to have a mexican spit on your bass and drive home from the factory with it tied to their rear bumper. I played it, I fell in love. Literally. You'll have to prise this bass out of my cold, dead fingers. I couldn't give two sh**s where it was made!
I have no problem owning a MIM but for some reason ive never wanted one other than a MIM 70's Classic i had last year for a few hours. I haven't played a RW but two things put me off it. The main one is the look. Im not in to the RW look, but more so not the colours they come in. The second is the neck. A lot of people love them but ive found 7.25 radius necks dont feel comfortable to me, i prefer flatter necks. One reason i sent the 70s classic back. Funny enough im like a anti snob when it comes to really expensive, boutique basses. I cant get my head around why anyone needs to pay that sort of money, and wait maybe 2 years to get a good, usable bass. Maybe thats just me. I can see the attraction to own one but to me a bass is there to do a job, and most basses ive played will do that.

The HW1 was the first line of these instruments (2003 i think). The HW-one is the upgraded version. The easiest way to tell at a glance is the HW-One has a BAII bridge on it (although a lot of people, myself included, put a BAII on their HW1), the HW1 came standard with a vintage style bridge. The HW-one has a graphite rod reinforced neck, grease bucket tone circuit, a lightly different finish on the back of the neck and i think thats it. Im sure the finish has been changed but cant for the life of me tell how. Ive never cared at all what other people think of my basses. Its normally people who haven't played one and so normally quote other peoples experience or just assume the worst. I do feel my HW-one sounds better than my CV Jazz but thats a personal thing, i would be happy to gig either (and i do). After owning Laklands, MIA Fenders and now Squiers i can hold my head up high and say i loved them all but value wise im happy to know ive spent so little on a bass that can give all the others a run for their money.
I think we will have to....although we are going with another band.... Space is a premium. I dont think im even taking a cab...maybe not even an amp just the Tonehammer or Sansamp as th other band have the backline. Cheers!
Ive got a Fender deluxe twin gig bag if you want to take it.

Forget the Squier, get one of these. it looks much more Rock'n'Roll.
Where can I get one for £209?
probably in the for sale section in a month or so Soundslive

If it wasnt for the missing lower horn i would love one of these. The pup configurations look great, as do the colours. And yes, a real bargain.
I'm loving my CV-P - never thought I'd be so happy with it. Who'd have thought that in 2011, with the numerous bass manufacturers out there of many prices, hot topic on BC would be the new Squiers??? Bit like Skoda syndrome, isn't it?
Same here. This time last year i was playing a Lakland DJ5, then i got a Lakland Duck Dunn (my second) but im more taken with my CV P than i have been with a lot of my previous basses. Maybe its the lack of funds tied up in a bit of wood and metal that makes me happy. Have these new Squiers been beaten senseless with the ugly stick, or are they the Ugly stick? The Jag looks makes me think of a butchered Guitar from Woolworths. I just cant get on with them.
...so apart from those differences what have Fender ever done for us?
Left off the 70's style headstock........Splitters. The "new slim profile, fast action neck" sounds interesting though.

To me it looks like fender have shipped some MIM parts back to the USA to assemble, and added American hardware.
3 at once Spongebobs at once! Arggghhh! Fiesta Red P bass wins I reckon. I assume as Ive been playing P basses in that band mainly since day 1, thats the best bet.
Bob rules lol. Once thing to watch out for is the vintage frets. I love them, and this was a big plus point (Lakland use this type of fret) but some people dont like them.
and obviously gloss finished rather than the thin matt finish the HW1's have.
And no graphite reinforced neck either.
All Fender prices have rocketed!
Bloody hell they have havent they. Ive not looked at bass prices recently. I paid £560 for my HW-one Jazz 3 months ago, some shop are now doing them for £711. Strangly enough the MIAs have gone up a bit less, only £75 (£975 now).
But with no BA bridge and the option of a maple neck
yeah, i was just going to point that out. Hmm, black and maple. Damn, i wish i hadn't seen this. Price is quite a bit higher than the HW's

Sponge Bobs unite lol.
But if you go on tour with a Squier, and anything happens to it, then you can almost certainly pop into a local shop and buy a replacement off the shelf.
Not halfway through a gig he cant
Lively lively lively shows. Hardcore punk is awesome to play live but after some very crazy live shows with them before, Im being careful. Not so much for shows in the UK, but when I have no control over how the bass is stored etc...thats another thing when we are in Canada. For an example, youtube Comeback Kid live shows, or BANE live shows. They sometimes play larger stages so thats different, but on the smaller stages it gets very frantic.
Ah right, i get you. What about something in the middle, maybe a HW-one. These are workhorse basses. Good hardware, Reinforced neck, play well and should stand up to being tortured a bit more than a Squier. If the gigs are as rough as they sound then you dont want something falling apart on the gig. Oh, and good luck with the gigs.

Just buy one of each.
