It was seeing MarloweDK using one on youtube, specifically seeing the tuner all lit up, that first alerted me to these heads and i think the tuner is a fantastic idea.

Thanks Dan[/quote] Im not sure if anyone answered your question about the BDDI having a un effected output but yes, it has a direct out (on jack only though) as well as effected XLR/jack. From the manual. "PARALLEL OUTPUT: 1/4 unbalanced direct output is hard-wired parallel with input jack. Instrument signal passes through, UNEFFECTED, to the input of your stage amplification system." With the BDDI you can turn the tube effect off by turning the blend control all the way to the left. This will leave you with just active EQ. Ive not used the DI out from mine as i will normally use the DI on the back of my amp, with it switched to pre EQ but its handy to have more than one, just in case.

Looks like bonfire night will have a few brighter fires this year lol.

Both my SUB and Ray34 (yes Pete, i know its not a real SR4 ) had this issue, my Ray34 even had a Nordy in it which helped a bit but not 100%. I found the low freqs could overpower the G string, especially at the first 5-6 frets. Higher up it wasn't too bad. With the mid knob flat or cut on my 3 band EQ Ray34 the G would easily get lost. With it boosted the G would be more prominent, although not it a P bass like way. I also found the Nordy changed the overall tone to a slightly more mellow one. I know load so fpeopel love this pup but i found it a bit bland. I also think its down to playing style as well, this would explain why only certain people find this issue. I play most of the time with a pick and found this didn't help. Playing with fingers made quite a difference. There is no conclusive answer, but most people do figure out what works best for them, and others dont have this issue anyway. As for the pole pieces theory. I tapped the E-A-D pole pieces down in my SUB so that all 4 strings were the same height. It made little difference IMO.

Ive got a few of OBBM's cables and have had no problems with them. I do tend to make my own now though. Its cheaper (for me) to just cut and re wire my older leads if they start playing up. I have a couple of long leads i "corrected" a few years back and these are still working fine in our PA. As long as you use good components and do a decent job they should last just as long as any off the shelf lead. No disrespect to OBBM but I think its worth learning how to fix your own leads, you never know when you might need to do this in an emergency. Oh, and another happy BDI21 owner. Its been replaced by a BDDI for gigs but that was mainly as i wanted one for gigging and one for permanent fixture at home. I keep thme on all the time, just sitting on my amp so i guess they dont get a lot of abuse.

All good advice. The only thing i can add is to try and get in to an established, or gigging band rather than start one. Its a lot less hassle and if it doesn't work out with them you have at least gained some experience and maybe some contacts. Although i gig most weekends doing this sort of thing i would never give up my day job. Its not great but it pays the bills and its a guaranteed income. Ive often thought about what it would be like to gig for a living but i dont think i would want to. I like the idea that at weekends (sometimes during the week) i can go off and do what i enjoy without it being a drag, and it means i have two incomes :-) I do know people who do make a living out of this and they hate it. The money is good but its the same thing, week in week out. Guess its not for everybody.

There are a couple of huge threads on TalkBass about these amps, loads of info and comparisons there.

Maybe not the best (although i think so) but you cant go wrong with the Squier CV range IME.

My CVP is light but my CV Jazz (also basswood) weighed the same as my HW-one Jazz which was Alder.

This is just IMO but to me it looks like the difference is because the passive bass has block inlays, matching headstock and Duncan designed pups. The Special is also basswood, where as the passive is Agathis. The active bass probably has standard Squier pups and a cheap preamp that probably doesn't cost much to make so wouldn't make a big difference to the cost. So, again, IMO, the passive is a bit more special than the special lol.

I was watching Comedy Rocks the other night, Mcfly were the house band and im sire i noticed (wasnt really paying attention to them) the bass player's White Stingray had LED's on it. It looked pretty cool IMO.

This thread is not helping me clear my credit cards lol. I sold my LMII end of last year and planned to get a TC classic to replace it, and hopefully then sell my SA450 as well as i dont need two heads. I too dont really need it use the EQ on my SA450 and play with my BDDI on all the time, doing covers from 50's to modern day, although majority from the 60s-70s. I hoped to get Clarky's but missed out on it end of last year. I had forgotten all about getting one until i saw this thread, and especially those pics posted above, now i want one again. Subscribing to see how it goes as i feel my needs are very close to Muzz's

I think its been there for about 2 years so not long i guess. This was taken the day before i lent it out. Mine has a nice low action as well, and i do like the tone from the two pups. Nothing really like a Jazz as they are both humbuckers (i assume). I think i might get a new set fo strings for it but it doesn't need a set up.

I had lent it out a few years ago to a guy here at work. He left and i assumed he had taken the bass with him. Clearing out a load of old boxes etc from behind our production copier i found a box with the bass in it. Turns out he had popped in one day when i was off to return it and left it hidden so no one else took it. My son will be delighted as he loved this bass and missed it more than i did. Ill do a gig with it but i realyl cant see me taking it out much, not without getting funny looks.

I was just having a clear out at work and what do you know, i found my old headless bass. It was made in the Cort factory i believe and feels really nice. Its a shame it has a couple of large scratches on the front but other than that its in really good condition. Its a bit 80's looking but i think ill give it a go at the next gig.
