If you have a ipod or iphone there is always iRig. The software is free and it comes with a guitar amp sim (you do need to buy the bass amp if you want it though at about £3), so you just need to buy the adaptor which is around £27. Very handy if you do carry a iphone etc around although i found my Korg Pandora PX4D to sound better and have a lot more variation.
don't know about your amp, but bass response starts around 50hz. cut below that to let the kick breathe, and i would never cut around 100hz. in fact a little boost there is quite normal i think.
Indeed and this was the deciding factor for me buying a MB SA450 over a LMII (to start with). I find a slight boost at 100hz helps punch through. Phil. If your combo is based on the LMII then you cant cut 100hz directly. The low knob is centred around 40hz so in theory (and if im reading the graph correctly) you can get a cut at 100hz by -10db, but you would need to turn the low knob almost fully to the left and this would most freq's from around 900hz. I think.
Really, really disagree with that - the audience are not stood next to the drummer! I carry ear plugs everywhere...nearly put them in when I took my 4 year old to the panto!
I brought some ear plugs a few years ago but just cant get on with them. They seem to stick out so far it gives me a complex. Maybe im doing it wrong. I think they are a good idea though.
I'm not particularly interested but the wife asked besides the obvious bass itself, an amp and a lead what are the essential bits of kit? Mine, probably my gig bag (I don't like my bass getting damaged) and my iPod. The iPod for practicing songs. It's a boring thread so if you're not interested don't feel obliged.
I would say for gigs its my radio system. One the odd occasion recently ive had to use a lead its felt very odd. Also a gig bag that hangs off one shoulder without hitting the top of the tube door. Actually, thats pretty important and one reason i still have a very cheap levys gig bag. For practising at home i would say its my PC.

The new drummer in the band makes ME sound so much better.
dave_bass5 replied to gjones's topic in General Discussion
Ive also experience both ends of this. Ashamed as i am to admit it my main band's drummer makes me play pretty poorly and it gets me down quite a bit sometimes (i know, i should leave but im not going to for various reasons). Sloppy playing, never sets a kit up at home to rehearse so no stamina. The beats can change at any time, even mid verse and he doesn't really take control of the songs, nor really listen to them IMO. The drummer in another band i dep with is fantastic and we lock in and it a pleasure to play. We muck around but always seem to keep ti going and seem to know where its going. Same songs and band line up but totally different experience. One offsets the other so its not all bad. -

As im enjoying my CV P so much, and will (hopefully) be getting a SBMM Ray34CA when they come out in a few months time i cant see me using the HW-one much. I got it in Aug last year from Riedys for £570 and its been well looked after, probably done around 10 gigs with it. Ive put a black pickguard on it but ill include the original white one as well. As far as i can see there are no dents or scratches, but due to the nature of the thin finish there are surface marks that although hard to see, they do show in the right light. Its more like the top coat has been buffed up a bit in a few places. Ill get some pics up tonight to try and show it. There is also a slight issue with the neck. It seems like the 19th or 20th fret might be slightly high. I have a low action so this doesn't help but the top two or three notes aren't really playable on the A sting (mainly) unless the action is raised. This is how it arrived and to be honest its not something that bothers me as i dont go that high, but i wanted to make sure this was pointed out. Im looking for £370 OVNO and would prefer a London meet but happy to post it at the buyers expense, UK mainland only. It comes with a Fender gig bag and the necessary tools for the truss rod and bridge. If anyone thinks this is too high im ok with it being pointed out and shown, although not just to make me a lower offer. I need the cash and i dont need another bass. Cheers. Fenders's specs are here Fender HW-one Heres a pic to get started but ill upload more tonight.

Wizard Thumper. Anyone Have Trouble Fitting One?
dave_bass5 replied to dave_bass5's topic in Repairs and Technical
And? Did you managed to get the Thumper in?
I gave up. This thread is more about me getting a new PG on rather than putting a Thumper in my Bass. The Thumper is already on the bass, along with the original PG that needed a lot of filing. Im going to give up on replacing the PG for now and live with the original one. -
First gig of the year at a social club :-( A mate who lives fairly local came and filmed some clips. No idea why he bothered but i thought i'd post the footage so you can all see how bored i look when i play these places. I think the sound was pretty good considering. We just have the vocals and kick drum going through the PA. The bass could do with being a bit louder but the bar staff had a sound meter behind the bar so we didnt want to push it.

Help with transciptions? Please :)
dave_bass5 replied to KevinJazzBass's topic in General Discussion
I feel that in the OP's case tabs will be very helpful. We all know how unreliable they can be but having learnt ay least half the OP's set list over the past few years, mainly from tab's and by ear ive found them a good starting point, especially if time is at a premium. -
I used to be very sceptical about pickup changes but the thumper made a real difference to my bass, far more than I thought it would
Same here. Ive been very impressed with the Wizard pups. I al so have some in my HW-one Jazz. -
And the risk you are getting a bit near the delicate bits
Yeah, one slip and i could write off the pup. To be honest if this bass was in a colour i liked i would make sure i sorted this out, but all this to get a black PG on to a bass im not really in love with (colour wise only) is a bit too much hassle. -
2mm sounds like it might be a bit much but I had success sanding down the pickup casing when in a similar situation on a jazz set. Would that be an alternative?
Unfortunately not. As an example if i hook the PG over one end of one half of the pup, it covers part of the opposite screw hole, as well as the edge of the case. Another idea i had was to file down the lip around the coil. I figured this might help me squeeze it in to a smaller cover but it all seems like a lot of effort. Thanks anyway. -

Thanks very much for the offer but I think I'll just keep things as they are for now. Your covers sound about the same as my squier covers but I know the thumper won't fit inside it. -
What you could do is to nut a new set of Fender covers as the cover is not fixed to the pick up, so perhaps a genuine fender cover would fit without filing £5 from the states or I think I got one a while ago from Oasis in ringwood
I'm not sure that would work. I still have the Squier pups that fit but the coils from the Thumper wont fit the cover. Plus, Andy has already told me that these are standard Fender cases (size wise) so i think I'm stuck unless i do some filing. I did have another go today but its too much hassle. -
Here's an interview with Pat Park with the mint green Ray34 CA. Not particularly interesting.

This is about 2mm longer so theres no chance of easing it in. Its more the screw lugs rather than the main body, alothugh it is still slightly longer. I think im going to try a different pup first. I know thats not the cheapest route but i dont want to keep filing these things down. The only real experience ive had with this sort of thing was with Changing the PG's o nmy 2 Duck Dunns and changin gthe Hanson for a Fralin in my last one. No issues at all.
