As you can see im very interested in the outcome. oh, and ill also go for TI's once i get mine done. I used to use them on my HW-1 Jazz and loved them, although i went back to rounds after a while as i missed the overtones etc. On a fretless i bet they would sound perfect.
 2.
How does the CV Jazz plays & feels like with the P neck? I was wondering about doing a temporary swap myself to .... suck 'em and see sorta thang?
Its funny but as i dont like P necks i put the jazz neck on the CV P as i dont really intend to play the CV Jazz. A few nights ago i got the CV J out as i really do want to gel with a P neck (the main reason i got the cheap CV P in the first place). It might be just because i haven't used the bass for a while but it all felt right. I loved the tone and the wider neck made a nice change. It felt less crammed than my main basses and i sat for a few hours playing it. It was strange for a while but its a good way for me to get used to it. I might put the P neck back on the CV P at some point. Both necks fit perfectly although the CV P did come with a bit of a gap down the side of the neck pocket and its still there with the Jazz neck. No big deal though. Once ive settled which neck will go where ill get the other one de fretted.
 3.
Just checked out this example... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k3kqYDm44M
Oooooo, its like being back at the London guitar show in the 80's ;-)
 4. I was going to get the same thing done with my CV Jazz. I still might although its now got my CV P neck on it. I had a quote from the Gallery and it was reasonable as its not something i could do myself but i also put the feelers out to see if anyone wanted to do a straight swap with a VM fretless neck.
 5. Lakland Duck Dunn. It was the perfect P for me, shame i had two and sold both.
 6.
I have a twin guitar bag & it weighs a tonne! I wouldn't even entertain a double bass bag. Nice theory but in reality they are bulky & unweildly. You are better off with two single bags (mine was from Thomann btw)
I think the same. I have a Fender double gig bag thats great for storing my basses in but i wouldn't dream of walking to my nearest tube station with it, its too heavy and i dont like wearing my gig bags on my back.
 7. Well ill let you decide, if you want it just say so and im happy to pull out (te he), if not ill still take it.
 8.
If Dave doesn't take it I will
Ive already confirmed ill take it but as i dont think ill get to use it for a while im happy to let you have it if kurcatovium is ok with that.
 9. Was this the bird that won X-factor a few years ago.............. I must admit ive never heard of her before but i loved the first link. Its not normally my cup of tea but its something i could listen to, and the video is really classy. I think ill have a chilled out week as far as music goes so might investigate Rumer a bit more.
 10.
I had an AKG system, think it was the WMS 40. It advertises as for guitar, although the included text says gtr/bass/keyboards. I used it with bass, and never noticed any drop off on the lows. It certainly helped in my old band, which incorporated some very clumsy people. Saved my bass amp from being toppled over again, as it was when one of the clumsys got caught up in both my lead, and his mega out-of-tune-out-of-co-ordination-spin.
Same here. My main set up is a WMS400. Been using it for about 5 years now and never noticed any tone issues. One batter lasts about 2 long gigs but i use a freshly recharged AA for each gig. I also have a SR40/Guitar bug system that i use occasionally with my other band or at home. My main reason for using them is because we play on some very small stages and i hate feeling leads under my feet. Its also good for sound checks as well as we do our own sound so its very useful if i can go and wonder around the room during set up.
 11.
Yes, standard Fender 19mm.
Thanks. Ok, ill take it for £30 posted if its still available. How do you want paying? PP? Im in no rush.
 12. If its a standard 3/16, adjusted at the body type of nut i have a spare one your welcome to (assuming i can remember where i put them). When i got my HW-one a few months ago the nut felt kind of like it was going to stop gripping the Allen key soon so i got Fender to Send me a new one. They actually sent two and so far ive not needed them but im keeping one, just in case. PM me your address if you want it.
 13.
FYI Now that Apple computers use the same type of CPU as PCs, a virus written in machine code could (theoritically) run on either. Nothing to do with the current operating system. G.
I thought the current Apple OS was a virus
 14.
Ellie is going to be/has writing songs for Cheryl Cole according to the internet bumpf. There's my connection with Ellie to X Factor.
Thats going to be a interesting thread. Seeing as how the whole X factor/judges etc are all hated by many on here.
 15.
As well as getting my first ever Fender tomorrow, it's also going to be my fist ever proper Jazz! Well excited! Truckstop
Nice one. Getting a new bass is always a reason to celebrate. What are you getting?
 16.
Probably best you stick to Fenders then!
No reason not to. Those exotic woods do nothing for me im afraid.
 17.
I would suggest a Wizard Thumper pickup with CTS 250k pots, a Sprague Orange Drop .047 cap, Switchcraft jack socket & cloth wire. The pickup can be bought direct from Wizard and the electronics from WD Music. I've done a similar project and can't recommend this stuff highly enough. Cheers, Jon
Exactly what i have in my Squier CV P bass now so another vote for all the above. Jon. Just make sure you get the right knobs for the right pots. Split shaft knobs wont fit on solid shaft pots etc. The normal way to wire a P bass is to use 2 CTS 250k audio taper pots like these CTS pots But some people find using linear pots for the volume give a more gradual increase/decrease over the full rotation.
 18.
Now I will agree with you on that one! Plus the fact that some of that type of music is as equally manufactured as any of Simon Cowell's stable.
Agree, its all formula music IMO. My first point was really more about some of the people that go on those sort of shows are already gigging, singer songwriters etc so until they get caught up in the whole media thing they might be just as good as people liek Ellie, but they take the easy route and become part of the machine, in the name of fame and fortune etc.
 19.
Sorry, don't agree, I think this is what the average karaoke wannabe on X-Factor and all the punters buying into it think is what passes for good singing.
Maybe but i would rather listen to that drivel than any of those Thrash/death/Speed etc metal bands people rave over and whose singer just seem to shout in a very deep gruff voice with as much distortion as possible. I cant beleive how that can be called talent either but no one dares put that garbage down on here. It takes all sorts.
 20.
All the female singers off there seem to be programmed to overblow everything -
Exactly, they are told how and what to sing by the Judges. This doesn't mean they cant sing or dont have talent IMO. I thought Ellie's timing and some notes were off but people will forgive that because she hasnt been on X Factor. Its all nonsense.
 21.
I can certainly watch EJ's live shows..his band is normally more than decent and mostly been with him for years. I think the arrangments can be a bit..well...chummy.. but the sheer back catologue is there and he is a very good performer, IMV.
I watched my first EJ show a few weeks ago on TV (live from St Lukes, literally at the top of my road ) and found it pretty good. I'm not a great lover of EJ but his band were spot on and the bass player had a lovely SR5 with a very nice tone. I do like Your song (and have played it as a first dance twice) but didnt think Ellie's version was particularly inspiring.
 22.
You've hit the nail on the head there Dave, 99% of the audience won't notice the difference, and probably 99% of the band won't either!! lol Just play what you're happy with.
Yep. These days i alternate between my HW-one with XL's and my CV P with Chromes and it makes no real difference. As both have Jazz necks on them im happy using either although i do find i tend to take the CV P more to the Social clubs. These have boomy stages and i find the P, especially with flats, tends to sound a bit clearer.
 23.
Wether people like it or not is up to them
No, no, no,your forgetting the BC golden rule (only followed by some of course, although the numbers are growing) that states whatever you post is set in stone, and no one should even try to argue with you because they are obviously wrong. It gets you nowhere talking about music on here.
