Plus the fact that some of that type of music is as equally manufactured as any of Simon Cowell's stable.
Agree, its all formula music IMO. My first point was really more about some of the people that go on those sort of shows are already gigging, singer songwriters etc so until they get caught up in the whole media thing they might be just as good as people liek Ellie, but they take the easy route and become part of the machine, in the name of fame and fortune etc.
 2.
Sorry, don't agree, I think this is what the average karaoke wannabe on X-Factor and all the punters buying into it think is what passes for good singing.
Maybe but i would rather listen to that drivel than any of those Thrash/death/Speed etc metal bands people rave over and whose singer just seem to shout in a very deep gruff voice with as much distortion as possible. I cant beleive how that can be called talent either but no one dares put that garbage down on here. It takes all sorts.
 3.
All the female singers off there seem to be programmed to overblow everything -
Exactly, they are told how and what to sing by the Judges. This doesn't mean they cant sing or dont have talent IMO. I thought Ellie's timing and some notes were off but people will forgive that because she hasnt been on X Factor. Its all nonsense.
 4.
I can certainly watch EJ's live shows..his band is normally more than decent and mostly been with him for years. I think the arrangments can be a bit..well...chummy.. but the sheer back catologue is there and he is a very good performer, IMV.
I watched my first EJ show a few weeks ago on TV (live from St Lukes, literally at the top of my road ) and found it pretty good. I'm not a great lover of EJ but his band were spot on and the bass player had a lovely SR5 with a very nice tone. I do like Your song (and have played it as a first dance twice) but didnt think Ellie's version was particularly inspiring.
 5.
You've hit the nail on the head there Dave, 99% of the audience won't notice the difference, and probably 99% of the band won't either!! lol Just play what you're happy with.
Yep. These days i alternate between my HW-one with XL's and my CV P with Chromes and it makes no real difference. As both have Jazz necks on them im happy using either although i do find i tend to take the CV P more to the Social clubs. These have boomy stages and i find the P, especially with flats, tends to sound a bit clearer.
 6.
Wether people like it or not is up to them
No, no, no,your forgetting the BC golden rule (only followed by some of course, although the numbers are growing) that states whatever you post is set in stone, and no one should even try to argue with you because they are obviously wrong. It gets you nowhere talking about music on here.
 7.
Personally not being a massive s/c fan or that much into dark woods (which seem to be the most popular choices) I know what you mean but after you've actually held one in your hands and heard the quality of tone they produce you are like Hmmmm. Alan's basses would be one occasion where the word "awesome" wouldn't be an exaggeration.
Im sure your right, they definitely radiate quality, even from the pics but still, paying that sort of money and compromising on looks means i probably still wouldnt want one.
 8. Im sure these are great basses and worth every penny but to me they look ugly. Each to his/her own though. I used to hate 3T Sunbursts until very recently. No offence meant to anyone involved in their creation, ownership or OBBM, they just arent for me.
 9. It strikes me as quite silly that on the one hand we have people slagging off X factor for some reason yet they are all in favour of Elle doing a cover version. Whats the difference? And even on the FB page Michael posted its saying lets keep the reality stars off the number one spot....what, with another singer just doing a cover? Im in no way criticising the music, just the attitude.
 10.
Finally after 17-months of waiting I should take delivery of my new ACG tomorrow.
My god, a year and a half If i have to wait more than two days i get the right hump. Hope its worth it.
 11. Shame you were a bit too high up on the Riser ;-). We did a gig with some Burlesque dancers a few years ago. What we saw in our shared dressing room was one of "those" experiences that never leave.
 12. After doing just one gig i think in going to take the DR's off and put XL's back on. My bass felt too difference last night, and although it was a pretty crappy stage and very bright room i felt the DR's are just not for me. I think ill sell them and buy some more XL's.
 13. Ive got my first gig with mine tomorrow (assuming we make the gig). Im getting used to them now. They feel a bit rougher than my normal strings but that's not a problem. Once i get the first gig out of the way im sure know if im going to love them or take them off, Im so hooked on my CV P with Chromes at the moment that its clouding my judgment.
 14. Oh bugger. Seems like i started a similar thread without seeing this one first.
 15. I loved playing this with my other band but hate it with my main band. its like we are all playing a different rhythm. Still, it always goes down well so who am i to complain. 4mins out of my life i can handle.
 16.
I can vouch for the TC sound - I had a LMIII and a Sansamp whcih I never turned off, and I've replaced it with a TC Classic (then quickly moved up to the RH450) because I could do all (and more) the LMIII/Sansamp was doing in one box. I do play a Precision mostly, tho, and I'm after a rock/old school sound. YMMV, natch.
Sounds ideal, cheers.
 17.
Ah, got ya. If you fancy a change, the Shuttle 9.0 would be different, as would the TC amps. If you sold the SA450, the 9.0 and Classic would make a nice, but different sounding, pair of amps. Of course, thats if you still want two amps, and if you want to sell the SA450!
Ideally i really only want one small amp so im more than willing to sell the SA450. I run it almost flat anyway so im sure any other head would work for me.
 18. Cheers guys. @Garreth. The tone you describe sounds ideal. While i like the BDDI it would be nice not to have to use it. The less wires the better. @Clarky. Thanks for the offer. Ill not do anything until my LMII is sold, i might have a buyer lined up for next week. If it goes ahead then ill definitely be in touch if you havent sold it before then (im assuming you will though).
 19. Cheers Gareth. I cant decide what i want to do. Im selling the LMII as i dont use it at the moment and could do with the money. I will need a small head at some point next year though. If i go that route then i dont want to spend much as it might only be used 3 or 4 times. The other option is to spend more but get rid of my SA450 as well. If i do that then something like the Shuttle would be perfect as ill use it every week and can also carry it around. Im also interested in Clarky's TC classic but i need to look in to that and see what the pro's and cons are, and aslo how it will differ tone wise from the MB heads.....and find the money of course.
 20. Hi Clarky. Do you have any thoughts on how the tone of this compares to the MB LMII? Im selling my LMII as its not used but will still keep my SA450 as my main head. I do quite fancy this TC head but if i brought it i would probably want to use it as my main amp. As i use my BDDI all the time now i think im ready for something with a bit more character, and this looks ideal. Its just a thought at the moment, i still need to move the LMII first. Cheers.
 21. Seeing as im selling my LMII ill not have a back up rig. I was thinking of getting another small head next year as i will need it for another band but i also wondered if just getting a small, digital power amp and running it from my BDDI might also work, and be cheaper. The main thing is it must be small enough to fit in a suit bag ro gig bag, so no full sized rack gear. I've looked around and there are a few but these are about £400+, i might as well get a second hand head of some sort for that price or a Ashdown LG1000 I know there are some amps designed to go in cars but im not sure how well these work. Any thoughts?
 22.
No problem - you managed to get the solder splashes off the ceiling yet?
Once i get rid of the blisters on the tips of my fingers ill sort the ceiling out ;-)
 23. I was in the same boat recently and I got a lot of good advice, mostly from icastle (cheers mate). I ended up getting a cheap 30watt Maplins iron (you do need to buy a different tip though) and this seemed to be a good middle ground. I also have a 40watt and that helped a lot with soldering to the back of the pots but i feel the 30watt would have been fine. I was tempted to buy one of the £50+ temp controlled ones but i didnt feel it was worth ti for the small amount of work ill be doing. I also agree about the 60/40 solder being easier to work with. You can get this in general hardware stores but Maplins dont sell it. This is the thread i started and its worth reading, lots of good advice. 24.
Every single gig i've ever done, they have specified that the sound check is at least 2 hours before we play, and the sound check never ever happens on time. Even for the decent venues around here with great sound guys, they ask you to turn up at 5pm to soundcheck and the soundgy turns up at 6:30.
The guitarist in my old band was a sound guy, a pretty good one at that. He used to be the resident sound guy in a couple of big clubs in the west end years ago, and he told me that bands were never on time, and even if hey were they would take around 45mins + to set up so he never bothered getting to a venue until at least 45mins after the band had been told to turn up, and still he would be kept waiting. Im not saying this is the norm, and i get hacked off as well with waiting around, but i can see the reasoning behind the sound guy getting there after the band are due.
