Are you answering on behalf of Ou7shined? I don't see how you think "Its a lot of money considering the cost of the components" unless you have access to wholesale price parts or something? Taking into consideration that they are quality components & all the work is done - not everybody has the tools/skills/knowledge/patience - whatever to do things like this for themselves, It seems to me a fair price to ask. I thought I might actually be doing someone a favour, not starting a price war! If you're "not questioning your price" what are you saying exactly? Cheerz, John
LOL. Why so negative? Yes, i was answering on behalf of Ou7. you asked why he questioned your price. Seeing as ive just upgraded all the internals of my P bass, and paid full price for the parts i DO know how much it all comes to. You only have to look on Allparts or WD music to find out how much each component and a bit of wire costs. I already said that your price was the going rate for this sort of thing so i wasn't questioning it at all, just answering your question. In fact if i hadn't already done my bass i would have had this off you as like you say, not everyone has the skill to do it themselves. I would say chill out but i guess you would take offence to me telling you to do that as well so good luck instead.

There are a couple of thread on here, one started by me, on the Amplitube kit but ive not read anything about the Ampkit. For what its worth i had the iRig adapter and didn't get on with it. Using passive basses i just couldn't get a clean enough sound, even though the levels seemed ok on the screen. I know others find its ok so maybe i was just expecting too much or mine was faulty. It seems like a good idea but i much prefer my Korg Pandora for silent practising at home/gigs.

DR Neon strings. Anyone tried them?
dave_bass5 replied to dave_bass5's topic in Accessories and Misc
My Orange strings just turned up. Blimey, they are a lot brighter than i imagined. Thats good i guess. I was thinking they might look a bit dull under normal lighting but nope, these are going to stand out a mile. I'll post a pic or two tonight once i have them on my HW-one. -
Andy is great for getting things done. Its almost like popping out to the shop to get them. He sent out my 74's the day he received my 84's back. He had already made them up before receiving the old ones back. Same with my faulty Thumper. He sent out the replacement before receiving the faulty one, even though he hadn't checked it was faulty.

62 Fender P bass pickups in a Squire P bass?
dave_bass5 replied to lovetheblues's topic in Repairs and Technical
I changed the cap in my Squier and it's very easy to do. The orange caps seem to be the cap of choice at the moment. I wasn't going to bother but as i had the bass open i thought i would give it a go. Its easily reversible. They cost less than £1 so it's a very cheap mod. Here's the thread i started a while ago about upgrading my Squier CV P. Upgrading a Squier And one about Soldering Dull Solder Joints some great advice in both threads. -
My bad,i said thumpers yet i meant hammers...just to add further confusion to my post. what is it you mean by dark? i never really understand these terms that well!
No problem. Dark means, to me, a lot of low mids. I found the bass lost its sparkle and the lows were too prominent. I first put them in my CV Jazz but didnt like them so Andy sent me out the custom 74's and these were better. I must admit they sound quite different now they are in my HW-one. More growl but with a nice deep low end. Best Jazz tone ive ever had.
I have been looking at getting some new jazz pickups and from mainly what i have read on here i have wittled it down to wizards, but which ones? So the 3 they sell are: 64's 84's and thumpers, the description on their website is a little vague (dark sound etc,i really dont know what that means!)so im hoping
Have you looked at the Wizard website? I ask because the Thumper is a P bass pickup. It clearly shows and tells you this. Sure you dont mean Hammers? Just thought i would point this out, it might help to lessen the confusion. By the way, i have 74's in my HW-one and they are fantastic. I had had 84's but didn't really like them. Too dark for me. I also have a Thumper in my CV P bass but i might change that to a Trad.

Why Do You Prefer a Jazz Over a Precision?
dave_bass5 replied to Count Bassie's topic in Bass Guitars
Excuse me? I do not like the PB neck profile but accept and respect that many other musicians do. That is my experience and I am by no means unique in that. Having a different experience to your own certainly does not equate to "tosh"...
That more or less my response as well but after thinking about it i wonder if he meant some of the theories like short hands/guitarist prefer slimmer jazz necks etc. I can certainly see that being tosh (to a point). Ive got very long, thin fingers yet i struggle with a P neck so i think it is just down to preference rather anything to do with size of hands etc. -
Cheers A. Ill give that a go at some point. Ive now got 4 CTS pots, including a vintage style one so plenty to play with. I think your right about the weight of the grease. The CTS pots dont feel like they have any compared to the Squier pots.

Why Do You Prefer a Jazz Over a Precision?
Yeah I posted it there too! Just a passing wondering about trends in different places... and it's just such a basic question/running 'argument' I thought I'd throw it around. Won't matter, I'm into my bass, but it's been a question between the two for years, for many of the reasons expressed here- primarily tone, feel and looks. Been a good read so far!
Yeah, its nice see how each side of the Atlantic feels about them. Seems we aren't that different after all. -
I desperately want to like P's but can't get on with them, God knows I've tried enough times. Jazz all the way for me.
Same here. When i dont have one im convinced i really do like them but as soon as i get one i realise i dont like them as much as i thought. But still i buy them. This is the reason i have a CV P and not a MIA. Not quite as much money to loose. -

I see this thread is also running on TB. It seems most of them prefer the Jazz bass for the same reasons. A lot of them mention the slimer neck. -
I think there's a lot of tosh spoken about neck width. For me, I prefer the tone of the Jazz over the Precision. Ergonomically it makes no difference to me playing a Geddy Lee Jazz neck or a 6 string Bongo.
Its not tosh, its different opinions and preferences and its not really fair to dismiss these opinions because they differ from yours. I have both a CVP and CVJ. Both necks are almost identical other than the nut width is about 4mm narrower on the Jazz. I cant feel comfortable playing the P neck but have no problems with the Jazz. -
That`s what I`ve got. I replaced the neck on my VMJ with the maple neck from a Jap 57 reissue P. Looks great and feesl dinky doo! Jez
Ive got my Squier CV P neck on my CV Jazz body. Its not going to be used but i needed something put the neck on. -
Why Do You Prefer a Jazz Over a Precision?
dave_bass5 replied to Count Bassie's topic in Bass Guitars
I prefer the look and feel of a Jazz, but i also like the tone from a P. Both my Jazz and P have Jazz necks so playability is pretty even. i find i get more varied tones out of the Jazz, but fill out our sound more with a P. I'll just take whatever im in to on the day to gigs. Its only me that notices any difference. -
62 Fender P bass pickups in a Squire P bass?
It can only be a good thing, bud
Indeed. Although ive changed pups on a few other basses before this was the first time ive changed pots and cap etc. Funny enough im now looking to get rid of my Thumper for something a bit more traditional. Its a great pup but after three gigs im now finding its not quite what i was hoping for. Im hoping that someone has a Wizard Trad they want to swap, or even a 62RI. -
Well i thought i was happy with the tone im getting from my CV P but i cant help feel i can get a bit better. Its got a good thump, and thats what i wanted but i think i would prefer something that has less thump and a smoother low end. The stock pup is a bit to mellow so im looking for something in between. I do like the tone a Fender 2008+ MIA gets, and ive played a P with a 62RI in it so either of those would also be welcome. Im in no rush to get rid of it though, and could live with it. I doubt ill buy another pup for it but if anyone fancies a swap get in touch. Its only a couple of weeks old. Im not offering any cash as well, so just a straight swap. Saying that, if any one has a Fralin im happy to make up the difference. Cheers.

I've also just changed the cap in my CVP. I wasnt going to but on a whim I ordered a drop cap and put it in last night. I must admit it was a bit of a shock how quickly the tone knob works now. I love this bass and it's my main gigging bass now. I've also learnt a lot about wiring and pots etc. Just as well it's a cheap bass. I don't think I would have done this with a MIA. -
Poor George. This has been quite funny but I can't help feeling sorry for the guy. Bit of a spanner but perhaps he just doesn't really understand how these fora work. It's not like there's an internet driving test (nor should there be). Hope he doesn't feel too bullied and manages to sell his bass somewhere!
He joined almost 2 1/2 years ago it seems he has just used it to sell a few things. He should have got involved with the BC community rather than just using it for free ads. The only discussion he seems to have taken part in is moaning that no one is buying his bass. -
I`ve got both this Behringer BDDI and the Sansamp Bass Driver. They are very comparable units. Yes, the Sansamp does sound better, but in reality, is it 6 times better than the Behringer - £180 as oppose to £30 - no it isn`t, in my view. Nice warm sound on the Behringer, great at adding some grit into the sound. Thoroughly recommend trying this one. One thing I`m sure, if you don`t like this, in all likelyhood you won`t like the Sansamp.
Ive got both as well and agree with you. I would be happy using either but i do only take my BDDI to gigs now. I find its a bit warmer, and maybe less sparkly than the BDI21. Ive also had a Sadowsky DI/pre and while it did what its supposed to do, i felt it was quite boring and most of the time pointless using it. I wouldn't want to use it as a pre with only bass and treble control. IME of course. Seeing as the OP doesn't really want Chinese made gear i guess Behrigner is not on the list.

62 Fender P bass pickups in a Squire P bass?
dave_bass5 replied to lovetheblues's topic in Repairs and Technical
Agree with all the above. One thing i will point out is to check the size of the PG cut out first. I say this as ive just changed the pup in my Squier CV P and the replacement pup wouldn't fit the cut out. The replacement is a Wizard (well worth going for over a Fender IMO, and cheaper) and is a standard Fender size. I had to file the cut out which although wasn't hard to do, it did involve a lot more work.
