62 Fender P bass pickups in a Squire P bass?
dave_bass5 replied to lovetheblues's topic in Repairs and Technical
I've also just changed the cap in my CVP. I wasnt going to but on a whim I ordered a drop cap and put it in last night. I must admit it was a bit of a shock how quickly the tone knob works now. I love this bass and it's my main gigging bass now. I've also learnt a lot about wiring and pots etc. Just as well it's a cheap bass. I don't think I would have done this with a MIA. -
Yes but he's a black metaller with batwings and that. They tend to keep themselves to themselves.
Dont they turn in to Squiers (not CV's of course) during the day ;-) -
Poor George. This has been quite funny but I can't help feeling sorry for the guy. Bit of a spanner but perhaps he just doesn't really understand how these fora work. It's not like there's an internet driving test (nor should there be). Hope he doesn't feel too bullied and manages to sell his bass somewhere!
He joined almost 2 1/2 years ago it seems he has just used it to sell a few things. He should have got involved with the BC community rather than just using it for free ads. The only discussion he seems to have taken part in is moaning that no one is buying his bass. -
I`ve got both this Behringer BDDI and the Sansamp Bass Driver. They are very comparable units. Yes, the Sansamp does sound better, but in reality, is it 6 times better than the Behringer - £180 as oppose to £30 - no it isn`t, in my view. Nice warm sound on the Behringer, great at adding some grit into the sound. Thoroughly recommend trying this one. One thing I`m sure, if you don`t like this, in all likelyhood you won`t like the Sansamp.
Ive got both as well and agree with you. I would be happy using either but i do only take my BDDI to gigs now. I find its a bit warmer, and maybe less sparkly than the BDI21. Ive also had a Sadowsky DI/pre and while it did what its supposed to do, i felt it was quite boring and most of the time pointless using it. I wouldn't want to use it as a pre with only bass and treble control. IME of course. Seeing as the OP doesn't really want Chinese made gear i guess Behrigner is not on the list.

62 Fender P bass pickups in a Squire P bass?
dave_bass5 replied to lovetheblues's topic in Repairs and Technical
Agree with all the above. One thing i will point out is to check the size of the PG cut out first. I say this as ive just changed the pup in my Squier CV P and the replacement pup wouldn't fit the cut out. The replacement is a Wizard (well worth going for over a Fender IMO, and cheaper) and is a standard Fender size. I had to file the cut out which although wasn't hard to do, it did involve a lot more work. -
Ive got a Thumper in my CV P and i get the "dark" comment. Personally im happy with the tone, for now, but i do plan on getting a Fralin again. To me the Fralin is "the" P bass pickup and seems to nail the tone i have in my head. When i got my last Lakland DD it had a Hanson in it and i didnt really get on with it. I brought a Fralin (my first DD had one) and it transformed the bass IMO. Not cheap though. I sold mine earlier this year and really, really, regret it. I say if one comes up on here snap it up....before i do.

I also love Jazz necks but i find they aren't all equal. I hated the MIM 70's classic neck. Very chunky and it had a 7.25" radius. I then tried three MIA's and they felt nicer but not quite right. All this time i had a Squier CV Jazz and thats a really fast neck. Plus it has vintage frets so i can get a nice low action. This neck in now on my CV P so i have the best of both. My HW-one neck seems to fall in the middle as its a bit chunkier but very comfortable.
THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A SITE FOR BASS ENTHUSIASTS, EXPENSIVE BASSES, CHEAP BASSES, WHATEVER , ALL I CAN SEE IS GUYS LOOKING AT PICS AND MAKING COMMENTS ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, ITS A WASTE OF TIM ADVERTISING ON HERE AS FAR AS I CAN SEE. IS THERE REALLY ANY POINT IN HAVING A FOR SALE SECTION?????? CHEERS GEORGE
How come you have offered pickup as an option but haven't stated where it can be picked up from (at least not in your profile or the two threads i looked at). Your not helping yourself by leaving out details like that. Personally i find it hard not to buy stuff when i come on here. -
DR Neon strings. Anyone tried them?
dave_bass5 replied to dave_bass5's topic in Accessories and Misc
As long as I don't get stung for tax etc mime have cost me £24. That's £10 cheaper than stringsdirect so I'm jalopy with that, although it would have been nice to get them for this weekend. Funny enough we have a couple of social clubs coming up and they have black lights so hopefully I'll get the strings in time for those. First time I've looked forward to playing these places. -

Cheers guys. There is a longish thread on TB that ive read through and they do seem to be pretty decent strings. Think ill get some orange for my black Jazz. Also thanks for the links and photos. Ill have a shop around. Ive never used any DR strings before but have been meaning to try Sunbeams for ages so with the party season approaching this seems like a good excuse. I cant find a 4 string set on Guitarsuperhero though, might have to look elsewhere. And sorry for starting a duplicate thread. Lets spread the word. EDIT: I just ordered some Orange strings from bassspecialties on ebay for $36.95 USD. -

HELP_____What is your first choice Jazz Bass color?
dave_bass5 replied to Funnybass's topic in General Discussion
6. Black with matching black headstock and matching black PG. -
When i got rid of mine it was to the Bass Centre. It had been in the wardrobe for years as i didnt think it was even worth selling. It had all Schaller gold hardware, a different pick guard, different pup and been re wired a couple of times. I still got £300 for it. I was told its the neck thats the draw to these basses.
-
Cheers guys. I think it was my thread about changing the Squier electrics. I had decided not to but managed to damage the volume pot when I changed the pickup so I had no choice but to get a new pot. The Squier ones are really nice but i found them small and fiddly to work with. The point is that I've had, and have, basses that have got CTS pots and they are very nice and smooth. It's the ones ive brought that I'm having issues with.
-
In the quest to upgrade my CV P I'm trying to find a CTS pot that's as smooth as the stock ones. So far I've brought two solid shafts from one place and a split shaft from another and none of them have a smooth action. All the basses I've owned, including the current ones, have had nice smooth pots. It's not how I'm installling them as I can feel this by just turning them in my hand. I've just ordered a vintage style one to see if that's any better but after that I'm giving up. I have these in my HW-one and they are very smooth so I'm hoping I get lucky. Am I expecting too much? I know it's not the end of the world, and I don't really use the volum knob mich anyway but it's just an annoying that the cheap Squier ones are better. I've read so many mentions of these pots that I can't believe I can't get a smooth one.

Busiest year in our 7 year history. Lots of social clubs but the weddings were also up a lot on last year. Already got 20 gigs booked for next year.
the charity is not particularly close to the guitarist or anything, i think its more the fact that his friend is organising it - originally he was going to go along by himself and just jam with said friends band on a few songs - not sure why this changed to wanting the whole band there - all seems to be a bit of an afterthough and just squeezing us in the bill for the sake of it. ah well.... see what happens i guess!... i know the guitarist has tried getting a dep in but had no luck so far - should have asked on here maybe!! cheers c
Yeah, it sounds like he has been put on the spot. Probably promised to get the band there and now has to let his mate down.
originally not fussed,
This normally means not wanting to sound like you want to do it (for whatever reason but normally because you know there wont be a lot of enthusiasm) but hoping someone else will say yes for you. At least, thats my experience. Personally i would do the gig if i was getting paid (a nominal fee as its for Charity, but a realistic one considering the distance), it was well organised, and i was guaranteed 99% a time slot to be on stage and wouldn't need to be getting there too early. I dont think many of the above applies to this thread though, so i would say no to this gig. I wonder if the guitarist has promised the loan of any gear.
I can't think of a bass-related topic that hasn't been done at least twice here.
Im not sure i agree with you but im going to post a great video just saw on Youtube called "drummer at the wrong.........;-) I love my Gramma pad. I got one when someone posted about a discount and a lot of us placed an order, and have used it at every gig since.
