I got these last week as a long shot, unfortunately it was a very long shot and i missed. I took one out, put it up against the original saddle and put it back in the bag. I paid £15 (inc postage) for them from Allparts, happy to sell them on for £10 posted to UK mainland. (but spotted b4 posting!) whatever its called.....bog seat?? they are awesome for any style of playing. Slap is just amazing. :-)
Damn, me and my big mouth lol. Fixed it. Yes, it does sound pretty good. I still think they are a required taste as far as looks go, but no denying they have a massive tone. -

(ill copy ur spelling!)
No problem. For what its worth your video clip is the first time ive heard a Bongo in isolation, and im very impressed with it. I hope this doesn't mean the dreaded GAS is on its way again lol. -
Playing bass in the style of Jerry Scheff. Very high energy playing this sort of thing, but its what Jerry did with Elvis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZNHUqNw56g Rich.
Very nice playing, and nice tone. Much better than my efforts recently. One question, and please dont take offence. Are you using the wrong spelling of Suspicious as some sort of play on words? -
Bought myself a VM Jazz in natural from Tom1946 yesterday. It's fitted with wizard 84's, feels and sounds great, it matches my MIM Precision easily. I'll be shotting a Gotoh 201 on it as well at some point
I got a set of Wizard 74's for my CV Jazz when i first got it but these are now in my HW-one Jazz and i cant believe how good this bass sounds. Its very punchy and is close to a P than i have ever got before (out of a Jazz). They were great in the CV Jazz but i felt it still lacked balls compared to the HW-one. -

If it wasn't for the CV i wouldn't have gone back to a P. I was quite happy with my HW-one Jazz and knew if i got another P i wouldn't really get on with it, due to the neck, and i dont like keeping a bass if im not going to use it, or spending money on a bass i dont expect to use as a mian bass, but at this price point im not worried if i dont get on with it. And having a perfect fit jazz neck sitting around meant it was a win win situation for me. I just wish i hadnt taken the wrong bass to my gig on Sat, ive still not gigged my CV P yet :-( -
You are McGiver and I claim my 5 bob. I didn't even know you could do that !
LOL, it wasn't easy i can tell you. I was a bag of nerves all the way through the gig, thinking it will either cut out or fall off the strap but it was fine. The reason the pups weren't wired in was i wanted to try my HW-one pups in the bass but thought it best to keep the stock pups in the bass until i got around to it, and these two had just gone back in after taking my Wizards out. It actually sounded really nice at the gig and ive now wired them in properly. n fact a bass player came up to me at the end of the night to tell me he also plays covers in a band, with a pick like i do, and was very impressed with the tone from my Fender ;-) Just goes to show, no one notices if your playing a Squier or a MIA, as long as it sounds good thats all they care about.
I think i'm getting a name for myself as being consistently wrong in my facts, spelling, and the naming of bass gear . It is indeed a 50's P - i've taken the pickguard off mine and its lovely all blue!!! http://www.squierguitars.com/products/sear...rtno=0303080502
Ah right, I thought so. cheers. "51P" does look nicer than "50's P" though. Its a lovely looking bass. -
I've got a Squire Classic Vibe 51 Precision & a VM Jazz fretless. Both are really great but i love the 51 P to bits-sweet as!
I keep seeing mention of the CV 51P but cant find it on the Squier website. Is it the 50's P? If so why do people call it by another name? Not being funny, i really am just asking. -
Really, that sounds great. Do you know how to do that, I cant find the option on their website.
Maybe they changed something in the 3 year gap between your post and the last. Give them a call.

Social club gig on Sat. I got down there (2 hour drive, pleasant enough), told all the guys about my new CV P bass, opened the gig bag and to my surprise there was my CV Jazz. Not a big deal, except the pups weren't wired in, strap pins weren't screwed in as the screws were too thin (i had just taken the strap locks off it to put on my CV P the night before) and my only strap had strap locks on it that are very firmly secured and wouldn't come off. I had to wire the pups using Gaffa tape, plug the holes for the strap pins using drum stick splinters and borrow a very, very, short strap off my guitarist. Gig went well though, we played so quietly you could actually hear everything. It made a nice change and the small but appreciative audience made the night pass quickly. Its the first time ive done anything like that before, and hope its the last. It could have been much worse as i wasn't going put the pups back in just yet.
I'm sure you'd be happy with either to be honest! great value and service
Thats the problem, i would be happy with either but i only have room for one. I could buy both but i dont think thats really practical. I have 74's in my HW-one Jazz and cant beleive how good it sounds, im hoping the same magic will work on the CV P. -
Wizard Thumper or Trad for my CV P?

Cheers. I am leanin gotwards the Trad now. I like how the bass sounds already, although would like a bit more thump so i dont want to change the tone too much. -
Wizard Thumper or Trad for my CV P?
dave_bass5 replied to dave_bass5's topic in Accessories and Misc
Thanks Will, and thanks for the offer although i wont be able to get to you. I have also emailed Andy to get his advice but of course the more replies i get the easier it will be to get a better idea of each pup. -
Im pretty much decided on one of the above. Im not really sure what to go for, although im more in favour of the Thumper (due to its name). I dont really want a hot pup, certainly nothing like a SDQP. I was just wondering if anyone has experience with both. I know certain people on here use one or the other so i would also like to hear from them. Also anyone (like Neil) who has upgraded the stock CV P. How different did it sound to the stock one? For what its worth im playing standard covers, no metal but a lot of 60-70's stuff, as well as current songs. I know it sounds like the Trad is the way to go, having that vintage vibe etc but if the Thumper has more thump, that also appeals to me. I also love Fralins so if anyone knows which is closer to one of those then thats the one ill go for. Im really only interested in Wizards at the moment (unless anyone has a Fralin for sale). Cheers.

Took a punt on a Squier and my thoughts are....
dave_bass5 replied to bassatnight's topic in Bass Guitars
Another Squier convert here. I too have felt ive been spending to much on basses recently. This time last year i was playing a Lakland DJ5 and to be honest i never liked the tone i got form it. Ive also had two Duck Dunns, a Fender P5 a 55-01, SBMM Ray34, Sub etc. Earlier this year i was down to just a CV Jazz and loved it. I must admit i got a bit fo GAs and got a HW-one Jazz, after finding MIA's we pretty poorly made. The HW-one was all i could ever want from a Jazz and its the first Jazz ive really, really loved. But then GAS hit again and this week i got a CV P. Now this bass is the winner for me. I got it as a challenge to try and get on with wider necks, and in this respect i wanted a cheap bass but its now going to be my only gigging bass. The Gallery are going to put a Fender Vintage bridge on for me as the string spacing is slightly wider on the Squier than is the norm for Fenders, and it needs re drilling to fit. Other than that, its perfect. -
Its funny but although I gig every weekend, and feel confident enough to not worry about anything while im playing, the moment we do a sound check through a big PA (and so have people in the room) i go to pieces and my fingers almost feel like they cant move when its my turn. Very strange.

Im looking to upgrade the bridge on my Squier CV P as i want a different string spacing. I got a set of Vintage saddles but unfortunately they dont fit the Squier bridge. So i need a new bridge. I was going to get the Fender one but i saw this Wilkinson one and its a lot cheaper. As i already have the saddles it doesn't matter that it doesn't come with grooved ones. Ive not heard of Wilkinson before but they seem pretty decent, and cheap. Any comments etc? Wilkinson bridges Cheers.
Like dog fighting
No, thats illegal gambling, not watching live music for enjoyment (although no doubt some people will get more pleasure from one than the other) I think the numbers speak for themselves really.

If it was that wrong to do people wouldn't come and see you, and there would be no market for it.

What's going on in the (bass) For Sale Forum

You also find the same basses turn up time and time again. Which is good as if you miss it the first time you still stand a good chance of getting it next time. -
Out to play Jazz had one last year or earlier this year IIR.
