Have a look at WD music. They seem to have a lot of PG's and prices are pretty reasonable IMO.

Would you trust your bass in the hold on a plane?
dave_bass5 replied to Clarky's topic in General Discussion
Although ive never had to fly with a bass its always worried me that i would get to the gate with my bass in a gig bag, intending to take it on board and told i would have to put it in the hold. It all sounds a bit hit or miss to me. -
Thanks Dave, I have one at home which I think should fit. If not, will be in touch mate
No problem. I also have one that will take a standard sized one for double boxing if you need it. I guess taking it on board in a soft gig bag is an option but ive never flown with a bass so cant really advise. -

A couple of questions to those who play/played in a tribute band
dave_bass5 replied to Linus27's topic in General Discussion
Do you act and dress the part or just play the songs? The full monty. If it's just playing the songs it's a COVERS band NOT a tribute...
which could actually mean any old street clothes, depending on who the tribute is. I dont see many acts these days that make an effort to get dressed up. I guess that makes it easier for Tribute acts. -
I had a very early JV P. Black with maple neck. I sold it to the bass centre a few years ago and was told by Chris (the tech) that its really just the neck thats the selling point, although they are very good basses. I had changed all the hardware, inc pup but they still gave me a great price. Probably 2.5 time what i paid for it (from them funny enough) back in the 80's.
Thanks buddy Hope you are well, I will PM sometime soon to catch up.
No problem, catch up with you soon. For what its worth my old Wellah band was more a tribute to Weller's song writing than trying to look like him so that doesn't really count. I quite fancy forming a Rock Bitch tribute band though -

Hi Michael. We had a bit of a discussion here a little while ago. Although not exactly what your asking some good points were raised. Backing a tribute artist -

I did my first gig with my BDDI last night and it was a mixed bag. First off the venue was an old castle with a high wooden, very live stage. my rig was sitting in front of but not in) a bay window. I also didn't have my Gramma pad with me. So, i expected the worse. To be honest i dont think it mattered what i did, the tone was boomy and muddy on stage, and quite toppy off it out in the room. I did use the BDDI all night though, but with quite different setting to how i normally set my BDI21. I made the most of it and i guess the BDI21 wouldn't have been any different. Im happy with it though, it does seem well built (although lighter than my BDI21) and did the job of fattening the tone. I kept the blend to around 25-30%. Normally i would have it pretty high but there was already too much low end. Back to normal gigs this weekend coming so ill be able to judge it a bit better. One question. With the level knob at minimum there is still some audio. Is this how it should be? Not a big deal as i can imagine turning it right off anyway. Im going to try and keep off this forum as much a si can this coming week, its costing me too much ;-)

Are we talking about these? Well someone was going to do it so i thought i would get in first. Just my way of subscribing to this thread. Quite interested in these basses now, mainly because ive always hated the look of them in the past but now im beginning to understand the attraction....sort of.

Best video device ive used was my Panasonic Lumix TZ7. For a P&S camera its HD recordings are very good. And the audio has always been clear. Its quite a popular camera amongst concert goers. I think the price is down to about £160. Sometimes the audience are worth recording though. This was taken with the camera sitting on my bass amp. Yeah, it was a pretty poor gig although the dance floor was packed by the end of the night. I think she scared a lot of people off. You can also see my Roland R-09HR audio recorder strapped to our singers mic stand. This gives great audio recordings and is placed just right to get a good stereo mix.
Oooh! You tease!
It just makes for an easy life and its very convenient being in this band. Nothing else really. Having the other band keeps me sane.
+1 The mids are fine, the blend helps with that and the way you use the bass and treble adds some of the mids... I did a earlier in the year and played through a very tastey SWR vavle pre amp with 6x10.. I thought it sounded great for the 1st set.. for the second set they moved the bass amp we ran out of time to move it back, I used the sanamp just as a DI, and used a wegde to hear myself and everyone inc the sound guy said it sounded miles better.. I don't leave home without it unless I have my own rig.. and sometimes, it's a great spare amp too :-) I'm interested in the mxr bas Di, as a lot of people say it's better, I just haven't tried it yet. They are also built like tanks.. My friend has one and he's had it for years and he's very 'heavy handed', it still works fine.. he never borrow my gear though :-)
Well i cant say ive had many problems with my BDI21 so im not really worried about the mids. I know what to expect. I did think very hard about the MXR but as i like what i already have i felt it was worth sticking with it, only a bit better. I really dont intend to switch it on and off, and least not during songs as i use a radio system and dont want to have to run any cables on the stage, so to be able to switch channels during a song is of no use to me. It does sound nice though.
So why do you play with the "main" band?!
For the money ;-) One band offsets the other. We do have good gigs, but when its a crap gig, he is in a cant be bothered mood (or in fact very good mood) it makes it hard for me to enjoy it and get in to it. We do always go down well though so sometimes i think its just me being picky, but it certainly can affect my playing quite a bit. Im not going to discuss why i haven't left though, but i will say the main reason it hasn't happened yet is circumstances.
Someone who is a "bad" bass player in one band might actually be "good" in another band! Assuming they can actually play the instrument, the rest is all about context I would say. A bad bass player does not listen to the drummer (and may not listen to anyone else!) - that's a no brainer!
That pretty much sums me up. Im only average at the best of times alothugh i get the job done. With my main band (both bands playing covers) my drummer is so slack (well, the whorl band is really) and in a world of his own i got so bad recently i almost gave up playing. He doesn't really get the lock in together bit, has no stamina so tempos are all over the place and while i try and lock in with his bass drum the rhythm can change mid verse so i dont really stand a chance. The other band i play in are very together and the drummer is so tight not only is it a pleasure to play with them but i always come away having learnt something.
