TBH, im shocked it hasnt/didnt sell quicker. SOO many people like those pedals, im really shocked.
And now there are 3 up for sale last time i looked. Ive had some interest but if nothing happens this weekend im going to keep it and just keep it hooked up to my PC. It works really well like this but i find its too subtle at gigs, whereas the BDI21 is not really needed at home as i run through Amplitube 3 and SVX so i have all the tone i need for practising.
Haha, cruel GAS!
Yes but Cheap GAS. Im now cured of my P GAS for at least this weekend. Hopefully im now sorted as far as tone goes and not enough funds to get the P now. And thats a good thing. Shame i got the Sadowsky first as ive been trying to find a use for that and i cant. Its just too subtle.

Job done. I've just ordered a BDDI so hopefully thats the end of it. Ill still keep the BDI21 as a back up but hopefully wont need it. Cheers all.

wow, thats definitely not the tone im after but i really enjoyed listening to it. Cheers. Looks like its going to be an expensive day (again) :-( :-)

Cheers for the reply. Im not after any real distortion or overdrive but i do have the drive on the BDI21 at about 9 o'clock, and it sound just enough but i do hear the same as you, it does sound a bit digital. Fine in a band mix but at home its more prominent. So the BDDI is a bit more natural sounding is it? Then i think its worth getting one. Its a shame i didnt grab one on here a while ago, they all seem to have dried up now. Im in central London so thanks for the offer but im a bit to far away to come over. If i order it on line i cna always send it back if i dont like it so its not really a big gamble.

Cheers Gareth. I know you cant go wrong with the BDDI but my thinking is, if its so close the the BDI21 then it might be money wasted, where as the Paradriver is different so might be worth investigating. Like you say, my cab is very middy anyway so its not really a problem, but i do find some notes still get lost (this D string problem again) so i dont like to loose too much midrange and was wondering if the Paradriver would be the answer. Although the BDDI might well be their best selling product, its very old and we now have other contenders like the TH, MXR80 etc. While none of these appeal to me as much as the BDDI i have considered each of them but still keep coming back to the Sansamp gear, but this is still based on my BDI21. I nee dot know the difference between the two before i can go forward. I was actually going to start a thread about this mid scoop issue that keeps coming up. I cant see why people complain about it if you can just boost the mids on your amp. I know the freq the scoop is at so im going to give this a go at the next gig and see what happens. I suppose if you only use one bass and have the BDDI on all the time then its easy to compensate for it, but if you need to use more than one bass or turn it on and off then i guess you wouldn't want to boost the mids too much on the amp.
I too have a BDI21, and a hartke VXL, trying to get the same tone as mr Chancellor, Well yesterday I bit the bullet and bought a BDDi, and to say I am happy is an understatement. The difference between this and my other 2 pedals is huge! cant recommend it enough!
Very timely response as im doing a lot of reading at the moment to see if its worth me getting a BDDI or Paradriver, or sticking with the BDI21. I am tempted to go for the BDDI as i do like what im getting out of the BDI21 at the moment. Can you comment on the difference in tone between the two?
Hi, no its actually a custom made neck I bought over in America with a fender decal added. So basically its a fender neck, not made by fender if that makes sense aha In terms of size, its just the standard size of Precisions
Cheers. Im not sure about this but i think you might get in to trouble selling this here, especially as you have listed the bass with the word Fender and its not. I know your being up front but im not sure if its legal to sell a non fender neck with a Fender logo on it. Im sure i read a long topic recently where someone was selling Fender logos to put on other basses and all hell was let loose. Just a warning. I personally would have no issue buying this if i could afford it. Good luck
Hello - PSU anybody? I don't think you'll do better for the price Cheerz, John
They look like a real bargain but they also look quite heavy and bulky for me. I only need to power one pedal so the 1 spot seems more suited.
I'm clearly missing something here. I just use my finger.....it came free with the rest of my hand.
Yeah. You can even just put a bit of gaffa tape or electrical tape on the shaft of a jack plug and that will stop it turning when its inserted in to the jack socket.

Sterling Ray 34 - Stingray from the Far East
dave_bass5 replied to stingrayfan's topic in Bass Guitars
Shall I jump to where this thread always goes? The lovers keep loving and the bemused keep being bemused and the argument is always about comparing a bad EBMM against a great Sterling version? (Which Im sure they are).
The lovers seem to need to put down the bemused IME. And a lot of the time the lovers have never even played a SBMM. Time to leave this thread and go and wind up some Fender MIM owners because you can get a second hand MIA for not a lot more ;-) -
+1 these SBMMs do seem to get bashed. Here's the bottom line, my current Ray34 sounds better and plays better than my old US 3 band 'Ray, which is why I bought it. YMMV. FWIW all my hardcases live in the loft and I always use a gigbag so that worked for me too. EDIT In case the resale argument is wheeled out again, with the exception of one bass/guitar, I have never bought any instrument with a view to what it will net me if I sell it, I buy them 'cos I like them for what they are, not what they will net me later.
Well put. As far as second hand value goes, it seems to me most of the SR4s are around half price or just a bit over. Same as the Ray34's (and most other basses) so i dont get the argument. Selling a SR4 you're likely to loose around £400 (based on selling it for £700). Selling a Ray34 you loose around £250. So to me it seems you lose less money, and have paid out less to start with than a SR4. Hows that not cost effective? -
Boring or logical? £560 with no hard case worth at least £100,worse hardware, worse paint finish,None US pickup when an EBMM (sorry if its without a matching headstock!) for as little £640 on ebay in recent times to me has to be worth a mention.I know nothing of the models you mentioned but to me its still a bad finacial deal, Thats no dissing the bass in its own right just the facts.Do you dispute any of those facts?
Im not disputing you can pick up a second had SR4 for a bit more but it seems you have to take whats available or wait for possibly ages for the right one to come along. I could have got a SR4 for about £150 more than my Ray34 but i couldn't find a black one with matching head stock. And to buy brand new certainly wasn't going to be cost effective. Its really not worth arguing over it IMO so i wont. I do take your point but just dont agree with all the logic. Dont forget, i brought one and so did the OP (and plenty of others) so they must have something going for them. Just shows, we see things differently and no one is right. Whatever works for you is the right thing to do. Saying that, the one you linked to is rather nice and i do quite fancy it now. -

looks like this thread has gone the same way as every other SBMM thread. How boring. And ive yet to see a SR4 with matching headstock for anywhere near the cost of a second hand Ray34, or even new. Funny how a Lakland Duck Dunn or JO never gets slated as costing more than a Fender MIA, yet they come out of the same factory as the SBMM and cost around £300 more. -
We had a regular social club gig on sat and played a blinding (as in good) version of........Mustang Sally. Most of the room was up dancing and for the first time ever we all had smiles on our faces during it. Ok, bring it on.

Last major music related purchase was a Fender HW-one. After ordering 4 more costly basses in the previous 5 weeks and having to send them all back i was very apprehensive. All worked out well though. EDIT: Just remembered i have a HW-one pick guard coming this week from WD Music. I ordered it 4 weeks ago, just before i got the HW-one. It had to come from the USA so that explains the delay. Customer service is great as i wanted to add a bag of 20 PG screws to the order so emailed them last night to say ill pay the extra for them when i hear back. I got an email back this morning saying they have sent me a bag at no extra cost along with the PG.
The guitarist says I'm playing the "wrong" notes as I'm playing the D an octave higher up.
Why would you? If the song has some sort of low bass notes holding the song down why would you play an octave higher, and thereby changing the feel of the song? Im just asking. Its sounds to me like you wanted to change the part even before you played a note as you could have used a drop D. IME if someone has written and recorded a song a certain way, i would at least try and keep close to it. At least at the audition. Im sure most bands will let you add a few bits etc but it has to be within the context of the song, and if its not your song you need to be careful. No offence meant, its just something that stood out in you post, and along with you "needing" to change the bass parts that someone else had written i feel you are definitely looking at the wrong bands. You sound liek you would be bored viged playing root notes, but sometimes this is all that called for. All IMO of course.
so, is the neck slimmer than a SR4, lik the first poster suggests, or like a SR4, as the second one suggests? Or is there a large variation between individual necks? If I found a Stingray/SR4 with a slim neck I'd be disappointed... part of the "charm" is a certain feel, which means the neck must be maybe not exactly chunky, but certainly not slim.
I didnt suggest anything. I just said i couldn't get on with it. Im the same with a P neck as well. I've only ever played a SR4 for about 5mins in a shop so cant say how it differers. It did feel different to the Sub though. The Sub neck felt easier to play for some reason, although i didnt like the painted neck.
