Go to jail. Go directly to jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect £200 An extended version on Moondance? That is a crime against humanity.
yeah, well if the audience cant be arsed that's what they get. And our singer does a very long, very out of tune guitar solo.
Thanks Dave. Probably a dumb question, but how do I check they are wired in phase? Is it just a case of the white and black cables coming off the same sides on both pups. I stupidly told my daughter I'd have this job done double quick
Yeah, just take one pup and reverse the wires. Both pups should be wound the same way but you never know. As far as i know it doesn't matter what colour goes to ground.
He only THINKS he plays through all that gear. The soundman really takes a DI straight from the bass into the desk where its processed via a £100 multiFX pedal. Of course the tech couldn't say that on the video or Chris W would find out.
In fact they all have midi pickups on them and are just triggering a Roland bass station, preset 1.
I bet people on here would
Ah, but who on here would go and see them ;-) Some people on here would claim they could tell if he had a Duracell or Eveready battery in his bass lol.

Its also the fact that a lot of concert goers want to hear the classics as well as new material. I think the tribute bands give us this as they tend to concentrate more on a bands heyday IME. Or you spend a lot more to hear the new album the band are promoting that your probably not too familiar with, and just a few classics. Maybe that just me but its something ive noticed over the past few years and have stopped going to major gigs.

It could well be that one of the pups has been wired the oposite fo the other, like you have said. Have you checked that both pups are wired in phase. when i put my wizards in to my HW-one i only put the neck one in to start with. I went with white to white, black to black, as per the stock pups. Either pup worked fine but there was a huge drop in volume when both were on full. I just reversed the leads on the wizard and all was fine. It might be worth a try.
As i dont have the massive levels of talent that you guys obviously do I can only listen in awe to him playing exactly what the music required of him, unless its at Wembly of course where the sound is so bad you cant hear most of what he is playing anyhow
I think the issue is with him using so many different basses, but then putting them all through the same effects. I really dont see the point. I dont think its really about his playing or talent, even though i made a comment about it. The Tech did mention about different tuning though, and i can see how using different basses would be a help. He does whats needed and yes, he gets the job done but i bet if he only use done bass for a gig no one would notice.
What I do object to - and not mentioning the band's name, is paying 8 quid to see a bunch of bored..well, I won't even call them musicians, in jeans and t-shirts not even pretending to be 'the band' - whilst the 'singer' is under some sort of dillusion that he *actually is* the person he is doing a bad job of mimicking.
A bit off topic by here goes. I was a huge Bon Jovi fan back in the late 80's early 90's. Seen them about 8 times. The first time we had Jon flyin gover the audience in a cape. lest item i saw them (Hyde Park) we was dressed in jeans and t-shirt, hardly moving and looked fed up. These days i find the tribute bands like By Jovi and the Bon Jovi Experience put more of an effort in to their, admittedly small, shows than the real deal. At a great cost saving as well. Just saying.
....oh and he's just wants to screw up any Muse tribute bands out there!
what, by coming up with very complicated, intricate bass lines? :-)
So how come with all that gear, his sound is essentially the same for every track?
He uses a subtle tonal nuances filter at the end of the chain. Cant have these silly variations mucking up his finely tuned sound.
Yeah, I looked at this yesterday, unfortunately its out of my price range.
Im sure ive seen one or two around here for about £400 but you have to be quick as they dont hang around. Its a shame you cant afford the Duck Dunn. Because i dont like P necks ive had two of them and they are very nice basses. Fastest neck ive ever played.
Looking this up and it is a beauty, exactly the sort of thing I'm after.
There's one here but its not cheap. In fact it cost more than the DD up for sale here. CIJ 70s P
Keep your eyes peeled on here and on e-bay, I'd pretty much given up when I came across my pedal with a BIN of £120. It even came with it's own flight case and 9v PSU. I threw a tuner and patch cable in there and and it's not my pedalboard.
Yeah, ive already got a wanted add and also an add to trade my Sadowsky for one. Im sure it wont take too long. I missed out on one last week and was beaten by Clarky to it.

A lest with tribute bands they have made an effort. I would have thought a lot more work goes in to the good ones than just a covers band. Just look at the Australian Pink Floyd or Bootleg Beatles (amongst others) to see the effort some go to.
-
Agree with the others. A gig is a gig. If you like the songs/band then go for it. As for morally acceptable. Why on earth wouldn't any of it be? We are entertainers, people like all this sort of stuff i believe. Ok, how about if it was Van Morrison tribute? (im sure you know where this is going ;-)

Im in the same boat as i just cant get on with P necks. Ive found to get a passive P with a nice jazz neck you have to pay a bit more. My suggestion to the OP is if he has a P he likes just buy a Jazz neck. Much cheaper than a new bass.
Its definitely, IMO, a great bit of kit. Solid and plug n play. When I started playing more gigs a few years back, EVERY bass player had one even if they didnt have other pedals. SOme used it for putting it through the amp, and some used it for DI'ing. Ive used it for both at once and it works well.
I originally brought my BDI21 for just one big gig where i wasn't going to have any back line. I didnt see the point of getting a BDDI for one gig, and didn't see me using anything like this again. It sat in a bag for about 3 years until last Christmas when i got it out to see if it was still working as i was going to chuck it away. I used it on a few gigs just for one or two songs, mainly to see if it would make my jazz sound a bit more rocky. And now i use it all the time.
-
I was also going to ask this. Im not sure i liked the tone but it did seem to fit the song perfectly. I think he yanked the neck during each verse after playing the same line. He certainly did it more than once.
-
Mine just sits on top of my amp so no danger of it getting broken. I also can live without it if it packed up. But for some reason I still want a BDDI. It just looks slot better and has more output options.
-
Yeah, agree on that, the Beringer BD121 is a nice piece of kit, just wish it were made of chunky metal like the Sansamp. Still, great value item to keep in your gig-box, just in case. Also recorded through mine a few weeks ago - came out ok, needed a bit of eq-ing, but was most impressed considering the cost of it.
I cant really fault it, its just never having used a BDDI i cant help wonder if getting the real deal will add a bit more magic. I could end up buying one and not hearing any difference. At about 5 times the cost of a BDI21 its a gamble.
-
Hmm, not really. Bumping the mids up on the amp helps if you go through the front end. I'll live with it for now thanks! Unless you want to swap it for a VT bass deluxe....
No problem, doesnt hurt to ask. If i had a VT i would swap as i had normal VT Bass and it only lasted one gig. It wasnt my cup ot tea. I do have a Sadowsky DI/Preamp that sounds really nice but ive not found much use for it. So far my Berhinger BDI21 seems to be the best of the bunch but i want something a bit more hard wearing.
-
I love mine but the loss of mids is starting to bug me a little. I'm thinking I should have held out for a Tone Hammer. And yeah, I hear a little bit of compression but it's not too pronounced.
Wanna sell it?
-
Oh I agree, they are popular. And I didn't mean they shouldn't play them. Just that I, personally, wouldn't. And that presumably the new bassist wasn't such an awkward picky git as me. EDIT: all this said, I will happily play M*st*ng S*lly. Which I guess makes me a stupidly fickle awkward picky git.
I can totally understand how some people will refuse to play songs they dont like. Ive no problems with that at all and respect them for it. But i do think that at some point you do have to, especially if you are there to entertain a room full of people. We all slag off songs like MS, BEG etc but i get the impression from my gigs that while we might not like them, 100+ people are dancing to these songs, so who am i to say a song thats obviously popular is crap. I may not like the song for my own reasons but that doeskin mean a song is rubbish. I sometimes get the feeling that certain people think they know best and are better than others, even when their eyes prove otherwise. Do what you feel is right, but dont put others down or belittle them for doing something different is how i feel about music. Just saying. Not aimed at anyone in particular.
I Last time I checked, Dance The Night Away was on their repertoire...
Its a good crowd pleaser and gets people up dancing so no reason it shouldn't be on their play list IME. Same with Brown eyed girl.
