Two wedding with my other band this weekend. Could well be the last time i play with them as they are splitting up at the end of the year. On sat we were playing at Nottingham Uni. Lovely venue and great crowd. I used my BD21 (Sansamp clone) for the first time with my CVJ and god did it sound meaty. Very pleased. last night we were in Bath (yeah yeah) at Priston mill. Another nice barn type venue. Although we were knackard from the night before (and got to the venue 4 hours too early so had to sit in the cars and watch the rain) we had a great gig, probably better than the night before. The Groom was an Aussie so we did a lot of our more rocky covers, plus of course some ACDC and it was more like a proper rock gig than a wedding. Great way to end the weekend. Now im back and work, trying to catch up on some sleep.

If your cabs are 4 ohms then you can only use one cab connected to a MAG head. Dont connect both to the MAG.
Don't worry Dave, if Si started disappearing up his own butt, his missus would soon bring him back down to earth she's great
I guess my statement sounded a bit sweeping but i hope the IME qualified it as just personal experience. My girlfriend is a singer, ive disappeared up.....oops, wrong thread lol.
Sorry Can't talk to you as you are just a bass player
Yeah, sorry sir, i should know my place (bows, stays low and walks backwards out of the throne room). Im still strugling with backing vocals. Although i do them as im the weakest singer i dont get a monitor so most of my singing is probably never heard. maybe thats a good thing. One thing i do find is its hard to do both for more than a bar or so at the same time so big respect to anyone who can.

Nice one, sounds liek a great night for you and the audience. Well done. So you'll be demanding your own dressing room now, and no blue M&M's lol. LSD soon turns you in to a twat IME ;-)

New(ish) musicman basses - Classic Stingray & Stingray SLO
dave_bass5 replied to Quatschmacher's topic in Bass Guitars
That colour looks great! I can see by looking at yours that I had a fairly rare problem; a neck pocket gap and a step between the neck side to the body. Yours looks perfect! Enjoy
To my eyes that step is still there, especially at the body end. Could be my contacts playing up though. Its a lovely bass though, im jealous even though i would never get one (neck too big). -
Cheers Peter, cant wait to get hold of one. It definitely looks like a quality product, and i prefer the look fo this ot the Peavey one. Im having to learn a level 42 song as a first dance. Sitting her in the living room trying to slap (badly) while the others watch CSI is quite surreal. shame i didnt get one for the weekend but im sure ill have plenty of opportunities to use it.
(I realise when you say '3', you mean 3 O'Clock which is a hefty boost!)
It is but IIR 12 is flat so its not like its gone 3/4 of the way around the dial.

I had an interesting experience this evening ..
dave_bass5 replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
I wasn't listening to the bass at all, just the song as a whole, then a little lick jumped out and I thought "Mmm, that was quite a cool lick", and I started listening to the bass more. I thought "Mmm, it's a little sloppy here and there but some of those fills are pretty decent, and it's pumping along nicely, this guy has a decent feel but he needs to reign himself in a bit and tighten it up a touch. But generally it's really nice, a bit quirky, and that little lick half way through made me want to listen to the bass." "Shouldn't be too difficult to learn but I'll never remember all those fills.". Just before the song finished, I realised the bass player was me
I cant say i have experienced this but then i wouldn't recognize your playing without it being pointed out to me -
Yep, same here. Mostly play with the mids, thats where it seems to make the biggest difference between only sounding good on stage and being loud enough out front
-
Thats a shame. I assume they have checked all the way around the dome for a loose section. With my 1212L driver i had to push down all the way around until i found the problem but with my UL212 i never did find the problem, although it sounds exactly the same as your getting. Good luck with it.

Whats actually wrong with the driver?
If something can't be heard, my mantra for mixing is to listen to everything else to see why before making anything louder. Any 300W bass amp that's been honestly rated should be loud enough for all but big festivals it is likely the problem is elsewhere. I have a 350W rig and I can't go anywhere near it at much above half volume.
You obviously know your stuff but i want to add to the above. we have done a few weddings in Marquees this summer and i have had to turn up quite loud. This is just me playing at soundcheck, no PA support and no one else playing. Standing on the other side of the dance floor i was very quiet at my normal 1/4 to 2/3 on the master. I know the position of the master is no indication of how loud i am but i generally dont need to touch it for indoor gigs. I have had to go to about 2 o'clock for these gigs as the stage (hollow platform) and lack of walls have made it difficult to get the low end out across the dance floor. My rig is a 500watt, quite pokey (ie, lots of mids) so that helps but i doubt i could have used my MAG combo.
Get more sensitive speakers. 600 watts is plenty of horsepower.
Well the amp is only putting out 300watts total (assuming they are 8 ohms) it might not really be the speakers, although i agree, the more sensitive the better. I also suggest boosting the mids more, but certainly not cutting them.
Ah, I should mention that I only used the Ashdown rig, not the Acoustic stuff, as the point is I am trying to downsize a bit (so, Mr Foxen, your doom rig is not the answer) The PA speakers were up to the job, but as the guitarists and drums didn't need it, neither should I! I was loud enough when onstage in front of my rig, but when I went out front with my wireless kit, I could hear the bass, but not as much as I wanted!
Are these cabs 8 ohms? That would give you the full 300watts from the MAG head. IME this isnt always enough. my bands only have one guitarist (to speak of) each and they use combos but even a 40watt Fender combo can blast my MAG300 C-115 out of existence at a outdoor or marquee gig. I now use 500watt rigs but i always have to turn up quite a bit for Marques and outdoor gigs. I guess without any walls to bounce the low freqs off you have to push your rig harder. And that can sometimes mean in to distortion which isnt nice.

I had one of these as my first "real" 5 string. It almost put me off 5 string for life. I found the neck to be too wide and i didnt get a P tone (obviously). I only played it at home but just couldnt get on with it. Its the only 5 string bass ive had trouble playing. I would go with Col's idea and have a look around at something nicer, or at least try the Squier alongside other basses. IMO of course.
I will pass that request along, don't think that's something that can be done now. As for the adapter being simple, it is not just a simple pass-through and it does get the best signal possible into the device and app but yes I'm sure some could knock one up. However, if it was that simple - previous attempts wouldn't have been so, with all due respect to those who made them, unsuccessful... Oh and 3 days to go until the iRig ships! July 1st in Europe, July 7th in the US… Get the FREE version of AmpliTube For iPhone here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/amplitube-f...d373309342?mt=8
Ok thanks. It was just an idea. Can i delete the Lead amp instead? (im guessing i cant). No big deal. I agree with you about the adaptor not being simple. I guess if it was that simple we would all be making them. EDIT: It seems like Soundslive didn't get them in today (at least, my order wasn't updated and its still showing due in in a weeks time) so i cancelled my order. I probably will get one at some point but i realised i have a Korg Pandora and i very rarely use that, paying £30 for the irig adaptor would probably be a waste of money right now. Ill see how things develop.
Thanks Dave. I did try my setup when I got home, at much great power and volume than I did at the gig and it was fine, no cutting out. I even ran it pretty much full volume with the overdrive and clipping light flashing away and still no problem.
Yeah, i read your post, just wasn't sure if you had run both cabs. Im sure it was the lack of decent power, like the others said. Just thought i'd mention it. Hopefully a one off.
Thank the lord - after a run of rubbish gigs with virtually no audience, we played the Archway Tavern in North London this evening and it was a cracker. Decent sized vocal and appreciative audience - reminded me why I started this gigging lark in the first place
Nice one. I came past there about 1.30am on the way back from our gig at RAF High Wycombe. Ive played the Tavern a few times, years ago. Had some good and some bad gigs but it was always a lively crowd.

I had a similar thing happen to me at a rehearsal studio a couple of years ago. Every time i dug in my MB head would shut down. This turned out to be a faulty cab. After 4 or 5 times i plugged in to another cab and all was fine. I tried the faulty cab again at a much lower level and that to was ok. Just saying. Might be worth checking both cabs.
Anyone agree? A bit embarrassing.
Im glad someone else posted this. i was going to post last night but thought i would get flamed. I know yourve now retracted the above post but ill continue with my thoughts. I thought the band were over playing. All great musicians of course, but to my ears it just didn't gel (and no, i cant do better ;-) Not a huge Stevie fan but i expected better. I would also have preferred less musicians on stage. Big bands like this leave me cold. Funny someone should mention Rush as i turned Stevie off after about 20mins and watched some of the Snakes and Arrows BD. Much more satisfying.
