Is there no other cable in existance that would do the same thing? Really don't want to be paying 10 plus international shipping for something which may be found in maplins for loose change.
Well i got mine for £13 over here but yes, there are cheaper cables around. In fact i was using a Nokia AV cable i got with my old N95 before i got the peterson one. If you have any AV cables that have a 3.5mm jack that has 3 sections to it (not sure what they are called) you might be in luck. All i had to do was put a phono to jack adaptor on one end of the Nokia cable and it worked fine. Its just not very elegant.

This is my old HW1 Jazz. Waynes selling it on here at the moment so im sure he wont mind, its all good publicity.

Im the same. I did miss the 2EQ i had with my Sub when i first got my Ray34, and i also read how a lot of people prefer the 2EQ. I think that coloured my judgement a bit. Just recently ive been using the mid control on my Ray34 a lot and i do think i would miss that. Saying that, i find the low end to be a bit thinner than the Sub, and i miss that. Sooooo, i think ill try and invest in a J East pre for the best of both worlds in a month or so. I cant see me selling the Ray34 just to replace it with a SR4 so if im keeping it i might spend a bit more money on it. EDIT: I didnt see Michaels post before i posted mine. Michael sums it up for me as well and im hoping the J East will give me the best of both.
Probably what is irritating most people (including me) was the blatant lies involved around the ad they had for a bassist, too which Gareth replied. They claimed to be big, gigging regularly and getting paid for it. Non of which look to or have turned out to be true. It wasn't a case of them kicking him before he quit, he talked to them about the volume of rehearsals and they seemed to have thrown a strop, claiming he didn't turn up, wasn't commited, never had gear and only cared about getting paid. Well I'm afraid that if I was offered money to play bass for a big band that gigged regularly I would be a bit peed off if that after a good couple of months you spent all the time rehearsing the set you know backwards, watching them smoke an set up a proffessional setup for a rehearsal. It also seems the rehearsals were for the vocalists sake. I feel for Gareth a lot I've been duped countless times by 'pros' who arnt really pros. If I was in Gareth shoes I probably would have been a bit more forceful of gigging even doing free ones.
Yeah, like i said, i did miss out on a few posts. I guess my posts are more to do with the topic and not whats going on now. Ive been trying to read the thread and i can see all the lies that have come from the bands side. I also feel for Gareth and its a shame it all went tits up like this. -
From the outset these guys lied. I don't think any points need to be reinterated. What's irritating is their behaviour after the fact, of treating Gareth like crap There's a blatant disregard for the truth. I believe what G says, and I also like to hear what the rest of the people involved had to say without the cover of a computer screen.
Ok, you see this is the bit im not really clued up on. By "from the outset" do you mean before this thread was started? If it was afterwards i can sort of understand why they did it, although of course thats no excuse. I agree they are being very unfair to Gareth but it was he who started a thread about them. From reading the first page i get the feeling Gareth wasn't happy with how they worked, although he did say he thought they were being as professional as possible. So these guys are doing it their way but Gareth doesn't agree with it because its too much commitment on his part for little return. That happens, but i wouldn't say the band are wrong, just because most of us here dont do it that way. It also sounded like he was about to jack it in anyway, and it looks like they got in first. As ive said, im not putting Gareth down, and totally understand why he wasn't happy, but with their bass player publicly almost deciding he had had enough, and all without speaking to them first, i can understand why they started to advertise and why they might be hacked off. -

Ive not really been following this thread too much. I feel its got the usual basschat dissect every word the other guy says and ridicule it. I believe everything Gareth has said, no question, but i cant help feeling maybe this thread is causing things to escalate. Im sure the other parties involved know about this thread so its not helping much, other than to generate hysteria amongst the bass playing coven ;-) It seems to me all the mud slinging in the adds has happened after this thread started, and probably because of it. IME some bands need to rehearse more than others. and some members of a band need more rehearsal than other members. Its all part of being in a band. You put up with it or leave. Its not ideal, and of course not always the case, but not everyone is up to the same standard. The business with the PA. A lot of bands (maybe more so the bigger ones) will rehearse with a full (or cut down if your the Rolling Stones) PA. This would help keep a more consistent sound, and is good experience at operating a PA. I guess its the same as us all preferring to use our own gear at rehearsals. When ever i rehearse the studio has full backline but still we take all our amps and drum kit in. That alone wastes another 30mis or so. Certainly a full PA isnt needed just to rehearse but i can now understand why they might want it set up. And considering how long it would take to set up and break down i think two nights is a good idea. I think Gareth has put a lot of effort in to the band, and is not to blame for any of this but i dont think any one is in the wrong. Distance and other commitments are/were obviously getting in the way, but thats also not the bands fault. Im sure im missing other facts that will show im talking out of my bum again but i felt i just had to get this off my chest. I do of course wish Gareth the best in the future and hope he can just put this down to a bad experience. I also hope his old band dont get messed about by anyone here, we are all musicians after all and should all be working together (except the drummers, sod em ;-). Im sure they are enjoying what they do and hopefully will find someone who fits in better. -
I did two weddings this weekend. Nothing really stood out other than last night, we started the second set with James Sit down. One by one the audience got down on the floor in front of us and started swaying. We didnt know where to look (ok, we did) when we were faced with all the short skirted ladies sitting on the floor in front of us, facing us with legs stretched out :-O Funny enough i had set a video camera up on the audience just before we went on for the second set and it captured it all. Oh, and we had also been asked if we had a DVD player because the brides father had done a mega mix type of thing for between sets and had put it on a DVD. Of course we dont. Still, got paid an extra £80 by the brides father for being fantastic (we actually played pretty badly) so a good end to the night. I did try and take the £80 for myself though as i said to the others he couldn't possibly be talking about them lol.

I have the official adaptor and use a cable. I have a iPod touch so it doesn't have a mic.

One thing I can suggest is to make sure you aren't overloading the input. I use mine at all my gigs without any problems.

I saw them at the Royal Albert Hall a few years ago. Great gig although not a great venue IME.

Bloody hell Gareth. I only just started reading this thread so i could add my un needed view on the rehearsal question and as someone else said,.its like watching a car crash in slow motion. Its a shame you had to find out like that but at least you know what they are/were capable off. My reply to the original question is no, i dont think twice a week is out of order, you rehearse for as long as it takes the whole band to be happy with everything, and i guess these guys weren't. I can understand it from your point of view though, lots of travailing just so one or two other members can get up to scratch 9if it was that reason). Not a good situation and im sure we have all been there. In fact ive been through this guitarist turns up and then learns songs off everyone else, while we pay for it far too many times. I dont agree that they needed a full PA. I've never been to a rehearsal room that had a full PA although i know some do. A vocal PA is good enough most of the time. Good luck with the other bands, im sure you will be happier. -
Wow Mark, do you actually manage to buy the sexiest basses possible? That Duck Dunn and '62 are both beautiful. A fantastic guy to deal with, whoever gets these will be a lucky duck.
Yep, Marks a great guy to deal with and a thoroughly decent bloke. I'd love a Duck Dunn but just cant afford it lol. Good luck. -
I only get an hour for lunch each day, my options are to go to Denmark st or order on line for next day delivery (not Thomanns obviously). Maybe i should start supporting the Bass Cellar lol. Supporting your local shop is all well and good, but as Bilbo said, if they dont stock what you want then you have to go elsewhere.
You've never made a mistake at work? I know I have.
Yep, and i feel an idiot for doing it. I know its not the end of the world but if you consider that time people will spend trying to get through to them only to be told its a mistake, well, i can imagine some people wont be too happy. Oh, and i feel an idiot for starting this thread now. Unsubscribing. -

Idiots. EDIT: As pointed out, thats a bit strong. Ill aim the comment at the person that put the wrong price on the email flyer, and not Soundslive in general. They should at least issue another one correcting the mistake or pointing it out, IMHO of course. -
Well... some think that.... but the music game is a funny business.... look at Sound Control.... Turnkey.... Arbiter.... Reverb.... to name a few recent demises.
Yeah, i know its not as clear cut as i put it. I used to love Turnkey. Used to spend hours in there when i used to play keyboards. I remember they used to be around the corner, I think they were called the Fender sound house in those days.
I'm sick of trying to match their prices over the years. There are lots of smaller music shops going under lately.
Its a shame shops are going under but with internet sales so big these days i would have though that the shops could be shut down but the business could still trade on line. Thats the the Bass centre did (love em or hate em). I think companies that change with the times are the ones who will survive. Not that i know anything about running a business.
Well that's where the Warehouse is reportedly...... so not sure where the shop would be.....
Ah, good point although i would expect them to be in the same building. guess we will find out one day.

I just got an email offering various discounts on telephone orders, this one stood out the most. Not sure how long it will last.
No.... Somewhere in the North but no-one has confirmed where yet.... The guy that was tasked to run the UK operation, Rupert, was Ex Turnkey but he has since set up his own recording studio. Thats the last I heard.
Cheers. Up north means i'll still need to use their website :-(

when i got my Fender P5 a couple of years ago i looked at all the online websites for shops over here. most were advertising it but non had it in stock. when i called to see if they could get hold of one i was told yes, but i would have to pay up front and couldn't return it (even if i came in to the shop to play it) as it was a special order. 5 shops told me this. To be honest i was pretty annoyed. All we advertising it and non had it marked down as a special order. so much for customer service (no offence Pete and no, i didnt call your shop) All were a bit cheaper than Thomanns but in the end i went with them as they had it in stock. When i had to get Thomanns to order in a second Lakland for me (which they did very quickly, and i still had the first one waiting to go back) there was no issue with sending it back. They even called me to see how i was getting on with both and to take my time deciding what to keep. what a difference. I realise my experience is probably not the norm though but its one that makes me want to deal with them again. sorry, rambling again.
