    I love my JBL104’s. Just within budget as well. Not great for general music listening but thats not what they are designed for.

    Ive been recording rehearsals since the 80s. From tape to DAT/MD and now digital recorders. These days i use a Roland R-07. the best ive ever had. very small and light, i put it on a GoPro mount and clip it somewhere central. the best feature is the app you can get to control it, and see the recoding levels etc on your phone. Very cool. For rehearsals i dont need lots of mics or multi-track and effects etc, so this is perfect for me.

    Oh yes, i liked the Fralins i had, but i paid £130 for the one i brought on its own and never thought it was worth it over other pups ive had. I took it out and sold it and brought a Fender 62 Original, and to my ears it sounded better and only cost £55. I have nothing against Hanson pups, it was just at that point i had the choice and was already familiar with the Fralin.

    Cant say for sure, but ive had 3 Fralin’s over the years and they have been on the warmer side compared to other P pups ive used. Personally i dont rate them, at least not at full price. They never seemed to do anything cheaper pups could do. Obviously we all want to hear things differently, I’m not saying they aren’t good per say, but IMO they are overpriced for what they offer. I had two basses with them in, and brought one based on other people liking them. I swapped the purchased one out for a cheaper Fender pup which to my ears had more of a ‘woody’ tone. The Lakland’s were never changed and i cant say i found them lacking, but the i didnt buy the pups.

    I dont use SC much, but ive also though about this. Its mainly now just for the current band, and the recordings I’m doing with some of the band members, but has a lot of my old stuff as well., which isn’t relevant. My thoughts are to put all the relevant stuff in a playlist and just give that link to people. If they go snooping around then I’m sure they will realise whats what.

    Cheers and yes, i agree some of it is off pitch. I did start to fix it but it started sounding a bit ‘more’ artificial’ as I’m not great with the Variaudio stuff just yet. Ive never met her in person but ive been told she comes from the East end of London, or thereabouts. She doesn’t seem to talk with an Italian accent.

    If you dont need wireless you could get one of these headphone amps for £!8 to clip on to your belt. This will allow you to adjust the volume of the IEM’s without touching the Helix.     Lakland’s have been my most lurched basses, but ive never played a USA one. Ive had 3 Duck Dunns. The last two at the same time. One had a Hanson and the other a Fralin in it. I kept the Fralin loaded one as it sounded a bit warmer and less aggressive, but all three were outstanding basses. Also had a DJ5 that i got made in to a PJ, never really felt at one with it though, but it felt and played as lovely as you would expect. Ive even still got a maple skyline JO neck under the bed somewhere that i used to have on my Squier CV basses.

    Ok, so thats your opinion but not an answer to the question. I asked you why you thought the player in question was wrong. I didnt mention FX or anything else. Can we keep on topic? Surely its up to the player to decide and not be judged on a web forum? Ive got a compressor, its a nice one, i used it when i needed to, but that is not all the time. Are you telling me I’m scared to use it all the time/i should use it all the time/my tone is not good enough for me if i dont etc. I’m not dismissing Comps, just questioning your comment. Why do you think this player thinks a comp is a bad thing and he isn’t just happy with his tone and doesn't want to mess with it? Why should he consider something that will change his tone if he is happy with what he has? As for cheap vs expensive, where do the two cross over, and who sets this cross over point? Is it a universally agreed price point or just an opinion?

    Cheers. I’m just going Synth to ears at the moment, but i feel there will be more going in to the chain sooner rather than later. I’m going to try and get my drummer to start using them as well, he does backing vocals and although he can sing he is more often than not out of tune. Do they make any with thick rubber tubing attached? 😁

    Yep. Ive not even bothered with the silicone ones. Memory foam is the only thing that ill use.

    Ive just gone over to IEM’s to hear my keyboard better with the band. Over the past week ive tried 5 pairs. My singer/GF has the very highly regarded ZS10’s (around £45 on Amazon). Loved by most people but I didn’t get on with them. Sound wise they are great, but the fit wasnt to good for my flat ears. Although they stayed in when i used for tips they just felt like they were pulling away from me. Nothing much for them to rest on i guess. I ended up going through the Mee range, staring with the M6 Pros (£35), and the MX2, 3, and 4. The MX2 is recommend for drummers and bass players. It has a nice slightly extended low end. Not dirt cheap at £79. I tried the top of the range (i had them all from Amazon) but didnt think they were as good as the MX3. So settled on those at £99. They handle synth bass well, as well as piano and everything else. They are the 3 driver version. They say more drivers the better but i didnt get on with the 4 driver version as much, so i think its down to trial and error. Thats all i have to offer on that front.

    Didnt get to rehearse as our drummer decided to stay at work so we cancelled. On top of that we had the offer of a pub gig in Sept at our fav pub and had to turn that down because the Guitarist is thinking of going away that weekend. Next rehearsal if they can all be bothered to make an effort is the 13th. Will report back after that. Just venting 😎

    Although the MX3’s are advertised for singers and guitars because of the slightly pronounced mid range, i can say ive noticed this with my synths so far. Ill post back tonight after the rehearsal. I dont sing but my singer said she wants to try them. She has ZS10’s for gigging but doesnt use them at rehearsal but she would like to. Before going to bed last night i gave the MX4 one more try, and honestly either would work for me, but at £140 its just not worth it when the cheaper ones sound more my thing, even though technically inferior. The low end is a bit heavier but its not a sub low like the ZS10’s have, and a warmer top end which i hope will be better for my hearing i have to turn up load. The bottom line for me though is fit, and this type of IEM seems to fit and feel more comfortable than the larger ZS10 type.
