Does anyone own one of these - Boss EQ-200? Interested in your opinion
dave_bass5 replied to Teebs's topic in Effects
No problem. One cool thing is the separate channels. Me and my son both plugged in to mine (so guitar and me on bass) and then fed two wired speakers, one each. We effectively had two systems running and had separate EQ for each. So i guess you are getting two for the price of one. -

I got one last year, but sold it recently. It was the only stereo graphic I could find that wasn't silly money (ie, SA EQ-2). I really didn’t use it much. I got it as i wanted to run in stereo from my keyboard, but ended up using the onboard EQ. Cant really add much, other than it was nice but not as good as my old Q/strip, unfortunately that’s mono so wasn’t going to work. I didnt find it did much for me. It packs a lot of features in, but most were useless to me. 10 bands seem a bit limited as well. -
Ah, I hadn’t even thought of that. None of mine are.

Have you considered a Gotoh? Not sure if it will fit but it’s similar. I’m sure you can get the dimensions on line, or i could measure mine,.

Those are really nice bridges. Reminds me of my Gotoh 201’s .

Lakland Skyline 44-64 Custom PJ - Thoughts Please?
dave_bass5 replied to thebrig's topic in Bass Guitars
Ive not had that one, but i had 2 Skyline Duck Dunns, which was the forerunner to the 44-64, but with only a P. Amazing basses. Really, really regret not keeping one. -
How ironic that people can now go and try them out in a shop.......only they cant lol.
-
Just a FYI for those interested. It just came up on my timeline.

Ive still got mine. Great little all round boxes. I used to use it as a sound module live, hooked up to a Casio CZ1000 IIR.

I actually started using Helix Natvie this week. Ive had it for ages but didn’t have any reason to use it. I picked up the guitar at the weekend and did a few bits in Cubase. -

Yeah, the Stomp has control over the incoming signal as well. Not sure how it compares to Helix Floor but it’s got control. -
Some VERY good news at last - live music back by the Spring?

Haha. Ive started wearing glasses some days, and my GF often says ‘you doing the full 500 today’ as I’m going out. -

For what ive read in the media, it seems you can walk as far as you can, you just cant use transport to get there lol. -
I got a pair of JBL 104’s last year. They seem great for the money, very flat (to me ears) but not very satisfying. A bit dull when listening to general music though. I am very used it headphones though so maybe its just me. Nice solid bass. Our Alexa walks all over them for general music, low end, top end etc, but these are studio monitors so that’s understandable. Also not very loud and the second inputs hum. Overall happy with them considering the price, they do the job that was intended, and the fact that i dont use them much anyway, but ill replace them when i feel i need to. Was also looking at the HS5’s.

This was our normal audience as we played a lot of social clubs. I expect the memberships have dropped a bit since than 😔 -

I think the one thing we can be sure of, is music will never die. Gigging will be back, although maybe a lot of us will be playing new venues, and maybe with new band members etc, but it will return. -

What are those? Never seen one 😂 -
Yeah. I looked up the gig he mentioned in the video on YT, are there are various performances from different years.

I didn’t know he played on that GM album. Just had a listen to it. Not a fan of GM’s singing. Never have been. The track above feels like it should have had Jimmy Nail singing it (I’m aware of the connection).

I’ve found in the past with P basses that I’ve had to cut a bit higher up to reveal the lower notes. Boosting them will probably make things worse if your using a small cab. That when it gets really muddy. Might be worth giving that a go. You will never get the neck pup as clear as the bridge, but you can certainly get it sounding clearer. You’d probably need to do this with the band playing though. Even over here in the Darkside EQ is very important.😀
-
From what i heard at yours with the SC, compared to the mesa and CN212 or F112, yeah, that cab is most definitely not helping. Just as well its gone lol.
-
We’re probably discussing two different things here though. You seem to be talking about P vs J in your last post, which is not going to be the same as using a reverse P pup, as you will still get the inherent P tone with only a minor difference in the low string.
-
A jazz pup near the bridge is going to cut through more, thats all you heard IMO. Sound’s like your drummer doesnt like the P tone and express that opinion. I assume you were using your small BF cab, which is hardly going to produce a bright sound anyway, so i can imagine those low notes were not coming through as clear as with a larger, more open cab. If anything I’d say that cab was the culprit. You shouldn’t have to go from a P to a jazz tone just to cut through, not with a 1025 (not that I own one). Why not play a Jazz and be done with it lol. Have to agree with CameronJ, its personal preference/style/rig etc and not a given.

Thats what happens when you skip woodworking classes at school 😂

Couldn't agree more. Also the ‘pro set up’ gets me in ad’s. Some people are ODC about woods etc, but as you say, a simple string change can make so much difference you really have to play the thing to know if it’s right. I get the theory behind having the P slightly closer to the bridge, but why not just use a hotter pup in the correct position? I had a MIA Fender P5 and loved it. All 5 strings had the traditional Fender tone to them. I had a Yamaha TRBX505 and the B was as weak as anything, and thats an active bass with humbuckers. I’m sure others would feel totally the opposite. Its a personal thing and cant be blanketed like the above post IMO. I wonder if anyone has actually proved the theory by playing identical basses with each having a different pup orientation? I’m sure thats the only way to prove this. Looking on Sadowsky’s website it seems he doesn't go for the reverse P theory, and that says a lot.
