  1. I got a relatively cheap Xvive last year. Used quite a bit at first, even gigged with it. I then got a Boss WL-20L. I must admit i didnt notice much difference at first, but when i got a new cab i tried it at home. I used the Xvive and as soft low notes were dying out i could hear a buzz. I thought it was speaker rattle but couldn’t pin in down. I had a cab that did this in the past. I swapped to the Boss and the noise went away. Used a cable and it was still fine. Back to the Xvive and the buzz came back. Obviously this is in a dead quite room with me sitting in front of the rig, but it was quite noticeable once i had heard it for the first time. I borrowed my guitarists Xvive at a rehearsal and that too had this issue. Quite noticeable at loud volumes. The Xvive is fine for messing about at home, in fact its perfect as the Boss doesnt have an on/off switch, but i dont think ill be using it for gigs anymore.
  2. if the room is boomy, or the stage/playing area is boomy, you will need to lower some of the mids. This would allow you to turn up louder and still be heard without swamping everyone with low end. Sometimes we think we arent loud enough, but its more an EQ thing. Definitely worth getting a long lead, or better still a wireless system so you can go out front and see how it all sounds. id also suggest a decent EQ pedal to give more scope for fine tuning.
  3. Yeah, I like his channel. I don’t follow every video be he has some great information on the channel.
  4. I just came across this video and it struck me that i didnt know this. I always thought it was just an extra EQ knob in the preamp section. Life seems a bit more complete now 😁
  5. No problem. Its midnight here. Nothing to laugh about. EQ is EQ. Ive never found a need to have ‘fancy’ EQ, although i guess the Boss would be classed as that. It was genuinely the cheapest stereo EQ I could find with a decent range, other than the Behringer 9 band EQ, which seems rather good for the very low cost, but lacks battery power. We don’t use sub’s, but i have a feeling now my synth will be fine with low end through our powered 1x15+tweeters. Ive tried to get my band to invest in better EQ for the PA, but we a really only use it for vocals so its hard to sell this to them. Ironically I’m selling a stereo DOD WQ on here. I could use it for myself or the PA, but but its old and we dont use any other rack gear. I like the idea of battery powered though. IEMs are not something i want to use at the moment, but maybe in the future. .
  6. Its a Boss EQ-200. I wasn't even aware of this until last week. I could use my Helix Stomp, but i felt it’s overkill for my needs. The Boss seems to fit all the criteria, its even battery powered. It has 3 different sets of EQ points for the 10 band, one more tailored for full range keyboards. Its also much cheaper than the Source Audio, and has real sliders. I really just need something to tweak the sound of my synth so its not too harsh or muddy. The rehearsal studio’s PA is pretty crap, and their desk only has 3 band EQ. Our desk is no better, although our speakers are much better. Ill be able to use a preset for the studio and one for our PA, with the ability to easily tweak.
  7. Sorry, i couldn’t follow that first post. Hope it gets sorted whatever the issue is/was.
  8. That’s what i ended up doing and i feel i made the right choice. More bulk but i like that its more modular as well. I prefer to buy things that can have multiple uses. Also easier to swap out one side if a cable dies on me.
  9. A normal jack to jack will be fine, assuming your in and out on the amp are separate jacks.
  10. Haha, yeah. it managed to blow both our PA speakers when one idiot turned it right up at a sound check. that was a very manic 2 hours trying to source new speakers while on the job.
  11. Another option, although more costly, is to post it rather than travel with it.
  12. We have had weddings and parties booked in the past by people that have seen us at a public gig. Doesn't have to be a record company.
  13. Whats an audience got to do with anything? People don’t normally record with an audience do they? I said the performance sounded lame, not just the vocals. In fact i said he had a good voice. Anyway, McCartney is even older so how about giving him a break?
  14. Saw this earlier today. I thought it was quite lame. Cant put my finger on it, it just seemed to lack energy IMO. He still has a great voice though, and I love playing this song (more so now I’m playing keys).
  15. Thats where backline comes in useful i guess. I must admit I’m old school, i like the feel and sound of a live band, either from the audience or on stage. If i want to listen to a polished CD mix i can stay at home. Also i (like a lot of us) like gear, spend money getting the tone i want from it. I cant imagine going ampless on bass. Ironically, as I’m going back to keys i guess i will be using the PA and no backline.
  16. Indeed, and this shows a that a bit more thought needs to be done rather just leaving your amps at home and relying on your normal PA. My GF/singer got a set of IEM’s for Christmas. She sometimes struggles to hear herself on stage. It seemed like a good idea at the time but there is more involved (as we all know).
  17. Saw a band in a mid sized pub last year. No back line on stage. All IEM and they had a real drum kit. At the back of the room the sound was great, but on the dance floor there seemed to be a huge hole in the mix. Didn’t enjoy that at all. People were dancing but i noticed they were dancing more in front of the PA speakers, and no one was really dancing in the middle, in front of the band.
  18. Hi Simon. Yes, its very versatile, especially for a home studio set up. Gives a nice warm vibe to everything. Let’s take this to PM to work out the details. Ill PM you now.
  19. This is ideal for upright bass. Its not instrument specific so works with most things. I would be using it myself as a pre amp (with electric bass though). I have in the past, but the one thing i find lacking is no drive. For this reason ive struggled to use this over my BDDI. The EQ on this is outstanding, and has a HPF/LPF as well, but it was never quite enough as a one pedal solution if i wanted more than one tone.
  20. 2 less than i had at the start of the month. It feels liberating having less choice.
  21. Great aren't they? I’d love a red jazz. Mine has all black hardware on it now.
  22. Very true. In the past ive put my CV Jazz neck on to two other bodies, its so nice. Mostly on my old CVP. One day i was playing it at rehearsal and thought I’d better put its own neck back on, only to find i had. Best P neck ever......
  23. Nice plug for those replica basses as well. Sounded really nice.
  24. Well yeah, and during those discussions its been mentioned loads of times. Thats all I meant. Its not something that anyone doesnt already know if they have been reading the thread, and not just jumping in at the end of it.
