How can it be dodgy if its working? You just aren’t noticing the difference. Thats all that counts isnt it? Even different leads/length can make a difference, but it doesn’t mean you will always hear it.

When I started using my Xvive, I had a few issues, as my guitarist was using them as well. Only at rehearsals though, we never seemed to get issues at the 2 gigs I did with them. When I swapped over to the Boss all those issues went away. Same room etc.

That’s very good advice. I’ll also add know the songs inside out if possible. That way you dont have to think too hard and don’t rely on hearing everyone clearly all the time.

Did a pub gig years ago where a strippergram turned up for a birthday night (our backing singer was a strippergram but not in this league). It was quite a blue 30 mins. The funny part was she asked to borrow our singers mic. Did a few novel things with it over the 30 mins....then handed it back to our singer for the second set. Should have seen the look on her face. Us backing vocalists put a tight hand on our mic’s and wouldn’t let her change mic’s. We had to up the gain of her mic as she wouldn’t put it too close to her mouth 😬

I spent a lot of time going back and forth with mine, and like you i felt the BDDI was just a bit more ‘me’. As much as i love the older versions of the BDDI, for me the proper v2 is noticeably better than it seems to be on paper.

And build quality. The pro units seem to be more rugged. Those bug types are quite easy to get knocked or jolted on a small or busy stage IME.

And not plugged in or on a strap. Maybe it was the other guys. Same here. Had so much fun learning those bass lines and playing those songs. At that town i wasnt a Jam/Weller fan so most of them were very new to me. I love the bass line to Ghosts, never noticed it was fretless.

Yeah, there is a difference, but one that you may or not notice. For home use I’m happy to use my Xvive, even though i hear the difference. Its more the tail end of the notes rather just overal quality. My comment was more aimed at gig use. I also see a much better connection between the Boss compared to the Xvive at home. I get a lot more drop outs with the Xvive, even though I’m less than 3ft from the receiver. With the Boss it seems to be rock solid most of the time. I like the Xvive as it has a proper on/off switch, meaning i can leave it plugged in to my (passive) bass and Stomp. With the boss I have dot unplug after use other wise the battery drains. Ive never used the really cheap systems though.

As ive just switched to keys i cant wait to give the Organ its first public outing 😂

Yes, same here. I look forward to rehearsals and really miss them. Our gigs are quite sparse anyway, but I’d be happy just rehearsing most of the time

If the sound is inferior (and it will be) then I can’t see the advantage other that cost, and it’s not like the batteries are going to die within a year or two.

Ive never played in a big band (although i did play sax in a brass band at school) but i cant help think some people will be sitting down? If so, and if ive read the posts correctly, raising the cab and having it loud enough that its carrying the sound to front of house might mean blasting out those whose ears will be a lot closer. Obviously depends on where the rig is placed of course. Just a thought, probably not a good one.

Its nice to get back in a room and play loud with others though, and it doesnt hurt to be prepared for when gigs do start. Some bands just like rehearsing, its good to let off steam etc. I miss rehearsals more than i do gigs. Its a hobby that some enjoy in different ways.

Xvive seems to be a good solution for the many that use them. Hardly a big issue considering how long they will last.

I got a relatively cheap Xvive last year. Used quite a bit at first, even gigged with it. I then got a Boss WL-20L. I must admit i didnt notice much difference at first, but when i got a new cab i tried it at home. I used the Xvive and as soft low notes were dying out i could hear a buzz. I thought it was speaker rattle but couldn’t pin in down. I had a cab that did this in the past. I swapped to the Boss and the noise went away. Used a cable and it was still fine. Back to the Xvive and the buzz came back. Obviously this is in a dead quite room with me sitting in front of the rig, but it was quite noticeable once i had heard it for the first time. I borrowed my guitarists Xvive at a rehearsal and that too had this issue. Quite noticeable at loud volumes. The Xvive is fine for messing about at home, in fact its perfect as the Boss doesnt have an on/off switch, but i dont think ill be using it for gigs anymore.

if the room is boomy, or the stage/playing area is boomy, you will need to lower some of the mids. This would allow you to turn up louder and still be heard without swamping everyone with low end. Sometimes we think we arent loud enough, but its more an EQ thing. Definitely worth getting a long lead, or better still a wireless system so you can go out front and see how it all sounds. id also suggest a decent EQ pedal to give more scope for fine tuning.

I just came across this video and it struck me that i didnt know this. I always thought it was just an extra EQ knob in the preamp section. Life seems a bit more complete now 😁
