  1. I’m starting to put a very small recording set up together, based around my ipad. Not a cheap way but i already have th iPad, and its more powerful than anything I could afford in the laptop world (i have a PC but down want to use it). I can plug my Helix Stomp in to it via USB and record using that. It handles my bass/keyboard/guitar etc. I recently got a Yamaha Reface DX as a note pad type of thing, but it works perfectly as a controller in to my ipad. The free GarageBand is great, although i have Laos started using Cubasis which is even better. Obvulsy the ipad can be substituted for my PC if i choose. No need for a USB interface if i use the Helix, although hi have a Scarlett 2i4 if i need it.
  2. Although not totally relevant to this thread, pedals like the BDDI (which is in the B1, as well as the Helix) have a Blend, but even with the effect right off the EQ still affects the clean tone.
  3. I had a 55-01 and upgraded the preamp. Didn’t make much difference (then again why should it). My advice is start with the pups. Those Bart MK1’are quite boring.
  4. Thats how I understand it. Parallel paths are great, but if a sim has a blend then its doing a similar job, assuming you are just using the second path to send the whole signal to. Being able to send only part of the feq range to a clean path is handy i guess, although pedals that have a blend usually dont, and they seem to work fine for most off us.
  5. Yeah, way too much latency. Just tried it with my Helix and BT transmitter. Fine for music of course, but not with playing. Could be the type of BT system though. Mines pretty old.
  6. As soon as the signal hits the input it’s converted to digital, just like in the Helix. Nether is passing a pure analogue signal through them, not even when using parallel paths. Have you (or anyone) tested a 100% clean blend compared with the sim turned off? It should be the same. in which case its acting just like the real thing isn’t it?
  7. Ill give it a go this afternoon. I have a BT transmitter somewhere.
  8. Yeah, i have the polarity reverser from when I briefly had a SmoothHound.
  9. Thats looks really cool. Job well done 👏👏👏
  10. See, i feel the original is a huge sleep inducing drug. In fact when we play it it has a bit more life but still boring as hell (as are all the FM songs yo my ears). I’m not saying what the other band have done is anything special, i can hear its just done as close as possible but in their style, its just that it has life and a bit more of the type of music i like. Appeciate this sort of music is waaaaay below most members standard on here, but if you like something you like it, no matter what others think. Some of the cack that’s already been posted here shows that lol.
  11. Was never keen on this song until i heard this version
  12. Love this, and I’d agree it’s certainly better than any other version of it. .
  13. Haha, was that the split bass/piano one. Must admit i tried to play it but not sure i got what the patch was supposed to be doing. Ive gone through loads, but i was looking for more Roland type strings and brass, which i found. So later i might actually start to play something. The lack of a Mod wheel is starting to bug me a bit. Not a deal breaker, but i do keep going to the pitch bend to bring it in, or pushing down harder on the keys. Of course neither work like that. Just need to get used to it. Its mainly for the organs.
  14. Yeah, I think I’ll be tinkering on it a lot, even if I don’t record much. I just wish I could get Babe by Styx out of my head. Since turning the DX on that’s all I can hear lol.
  15. Yeah, speakers are fine for just playing around. I did find one patch that when I played a chord the speakers could not handle it and they cut out. Lowering the volume was fine. ill have a look at the app when I get back home. I think I was trying to do to much on the fly. I can see me using it a lot as a controller in GB though. Surprised how well that worked with just a USB cable.
  16. If they did an all in one full sized version I’d go back to playing keys lol. Just been playing with my new DX. Love it. The keyboard is surprisingly easy to play. No issues there (other than hitting the right notes due to not knowing where they should be). The quality is better than i thought. Nice weight to it and it feels sturdy. Sounds are good through the small speakers. Not tried headphones yet. Must admit i find a lot of them quite samey. Been going through Soundmondo and found a few favs, inc a nice non DX sounding piano, and a patch called JP Strings. This is just what i was looking for. Anyone know how to save these as a list of fav etc. I kept hitting the little blue icon thinking they were getting added to a list, but i think all i did was re post them. Ive saved a few to the DX but with so many patches on the web I’d like to find my favs quickly. I noticed a set list feature. Guessing that will do once ive figured it out. Only omission for me is the lack of a Mod wheel. I’d much rather have that than the pitch bend. I’m not a solo type of player.
  17. So you stay at the bar during the support band’s set 😬
  18. Cool set up. Yes, these are surprisingly cheap. Just got my DX for £248 which i thought was reasonable. Although i have a keyboard player in the band he will only be using my Korg N5, which is ok, but when i heard the YC I almost brought it for him. Seems to knock the socks off the Korg’s organs. As much as i love what the DX can do, when i heard the YC it made me grin. I’d love to get one, and I’d let him use it, but the DX just seems the best all rounder for home recoding. I am thinking about possibly using the DX myself live, if i can figure out how and when. Can you get the ‘famous’ DX Brass on the DX? By that I mean is there a preset for it, rather than create it. I know about Soundmondo so ill be looking at that once i get all hooked up to my ipad. EDIT: Just noticed there is a FM Brass patch. Oh dear......😂
  19. I really want the others, but I’ll see how i get on with the DX (arriving today). Ive always loved organ sound so that would be next. I have a feeling the DX will cover me for that and piano to start with though.Ive had mini keys before and thought they were ok. Did the job at home. This sort of came about as my Roland controller doesnt work, and my son likes to tinker around on it. I was just going to get another keyboard controller but then saw these. Need to get some piano lessons in now. Off to YouTube today.
  20. That’s the one I mentioned in my post. I used to prefer it to the real thing at one point. It’s a bit brighter. Still got mine, even though I also have a BDDIv2.
  21. Ah, but no need if you have a Helix, and would need a bigger mini board to put it on 😏
  22. Actually I’m in big time, which surprises me. Last bass gear was the BB435, and that was back at the shop by 22nd March. Only music gear ive brought since then is the Yamaha Reface DX that i brought yesterday, and thats a a keyboard so not a fail. I did get the Roland foot switch to use with my Stomp, but as that will work with the keyboard thats not a fail either, as its not bass specific. If that BB435 turns up again then I’m out i guess. No one likes me and ive not washed since lockdown, so I’m good for the social distencing thing as well 😂
