  1. With the XR18 the Aux sends are independent of the FOH, so although I do more or less mimic the FOS in my IEM (makes sense to have guitars away from the centre etc), i dont have to. In fact we don’t have the drums going through the FOH, other than the kick. The ambient mic’s on the kit are mainly for the IEM’s and recording.
  2. Although as a keyboard player i need stereo, the benefit of hearing a stereo mix of everything just makes me smile. I stand at the back so have to use IEM’s, but having guitars panned left and right (not hard panned, but almost) along with the BV’s, drums kit spread across the mix really makes a difference to how i gel with the band, and i guess i play better because i get more in to it. This holds true when im playing with my other band on bass. Bass in the centre of course. I know this doesnt reflect where the instruments are positioned on stage, but in this situation im playing to the IEM mix, not the on stage sound. I have read a few times, but cant confirm if it’s true, that some singers find it better to have their voice off centre in thier IEM. This makes sense to me, but i don’t doing so never tried it.
  3. Yeah, i looked it up. I remember thinking at the time it came out it was a cool idea, but when looking for a new mixer i couldn’t figure out how it would work with modern day iPads as they have changed size and shape, not to mention connectivity over the years.
  4. I wasn’t lying in my post above about using the built in WiFi 🤔 It has its uses in my experience.
  5. Ah, forget the XR18 is called the X-Air. Not aware of a more basic model though, other than those with less channels. The X18 is the one with the tablet feature. Not sure what tablet will work with it these days.
  6. Haha, never noticed the ruler. What a coincidence. The XR18 has a router built in. It does seem to have a bad rep, but I’ve used it at home many times without any issue. Even a few rehearsals without any drop outs, but as it’s 2.4 i don’t want to risk it at gigs as i stick to 5ghz. At a gig, and without a sound engineer doing our sound it’s pretty much set and forget as far as FOH goes, and pretty much impossible for the rest of the band to tweak while playing even though they have the app (can’t get a phone out and move slowed while playing guitar) so even if we had drop outs it’s pretty much a non issue. It’s not like we are riding the faders all night and it doesn’t change anyone setting on the XR18 if it does. Best not to take any changes though. Once i got Mixing station and figured that out i found the transition to digital very easy. I use my iPad so have a pretty large screen (compared to a phone), and have a layout that is very close to our old mixer. Whatever you use you will be good to go after a few hours. We use ours all the time, even at the rehearsal studios. It gives me the practice i need and gives the band the practice they need to plug things in etc. out bass play still gets its wrong, and everything is labels up and colour coded 🙄 Not sure what the basic XR18 is, just the one XR18 as far as i know. They do one that you can put a tablet in but i don’t think that’s as popular. Can’t remember the name though, might be the X-Air.
  7. That reminds me of a Helix Stomp 🙂 We looked at getting something like this, and on the surface it seemed ideal for us, but what made us go for the XR18 is the ability to just chuck it anywhere on stage. As the XR18 doesn't have a screen or knobs it can sit out of sight and without fear of anyone touching something they shouldn't, and if it gets kicked its robust enough (so far) to take it. As i mainly do the sound I dont want anyone touching anything on the mixer, they have their apps for their monitor mixes and that's all they are allowed (or I can do it). Must admit having a good router built in is a good idea, but again, we use a small USB router that can be positioned somewhere else if needed. Most of the time its Velcro'd to the XR18. It seemed strange at first, not having a table on stage with a mixer on it., but on some of the stages we play on the space regained has been welcome.
  8. Pretty much why we went for the XR18 and not the MR18. I think people obsess so much over things that in the real world don't make any difference.
  9. Thanks, i thought there might be an issue. To be clear id be selling the licence’s rather than any files, but happy to sell them elsewhere.
  10. Ive got some VST pluggins i dont use and wanted to sell them. Totally legit and i can get them transferred to the new owner.
  11. just to be clear, these are about 2 years old, with the same design from the first version, so im guessing 4 years old. There are not new by any means. Saying that, I find them fantastic. ive had both version 1 and 2, and will buy 3 when they come out. Im one of those that never actually had an issue with the standard AirPods, and the Pros' fit differently, and a bit looser when I first got them. A set of memory foam tips sorted that out. Strangely (or maybe not), I find depending on the season I either need the foam tips, or can quite happily use the supplied silicon ones.
  12. I love how my Apple watch keeps flashing that the volume is too loud at rehearsals, yet i have a lovely clear mix at a volume that is very ear friendly. The first few times I’d get home without ringing in my ears felt wrong lol.
  13. My Sen IE100 pro cost £80. So to answer your question, no, KZ are not the only company making cheap IEM’s, and in my experience the IE100’s are better. My IE400 are even better, but cost 3 times as much and are not perfect. Best can mean many things. Price, fit, sound etc. in my book until all the criteria are met, it’s not a total blanket win, but others will have their own criteria.
  14. Yeah, so many different criteria that it’s impossible to say. For a while i used to think a Sue Ryder bass was the best bass available 😎
  15. Can’t be the best if someone doesnt like them. Dont go by what everyone else thinks until you have tried them. People jump on cheap things and swear by them for a time, but that doesn’t mean they are the best outright.
  16. I didn’t like hem either. Switched to Sennheiser IE100 pro (and then IE400 pro). To my ears these are closer to my headphones, but with a slightly more pronounced bass bump (so not a muddy low end as such). I felt they added a smoother quality to the sound. Not as open as the KZZ but the high end is more comfortable.
  17. There are cab sims but they are built in to the amp sims. No way to use one without the other.
  18. Why do you say that? Who would be stepping back? Am I really to believe no one here makes any judgment calls in their bands, and things just magically happen.
  19. God? Why would it seem like that because I called up agents and got the band gigs? If no one asks someone to do something nothing gets done.
  20. My main band does now, but it’s been hard work getting them to realise they have to do homework. They were quite inexperienced when i joined and put up some resistance, but in the end they all realised if they want to gig they need to be gig ready. My old band didn’t have a ‘leader’, but there was always a need for someone to take initiatives so in a way i was the leader, bit not in charge i guess.
  21. There are different levels of fun. if someone is constantly not learning songs or misses rehearsals, because they are only doing it for a bit of fun, the fun goes out of it for others.
  22. Are you Mick? 😇
  23. I must admit, when i see posts about ‘band leader’ i tend to think its an American thing. I do think a band needs someone with motivation to push things along if needed, thats what i do, but ive never considered myself a band leader and don’t want to be. It’s fine if everyone is on the exact same page and professional about it, ubt ive been in bands that have sounded awful, but no one speaks up. Sometimes someone just has to take control.
