Helix Floor/LT/HX/Stomp/PodGo owners' Club - Tips, Ideas & Patches
dave_bass5 replied to Al Krow's topic in Effects
Don’t forget you have a BDDIv1 in the HFX. You could do your own tests, with the updated info you have about the BDDI. You might find the BDDI isnt as bad as your first time around. -

Yeah, spot on. I meant in relation to the non DI version though. They aren't the same with the bite turned off. -

I cant remember off hand exactly what the deal with the Bite switch, but IIR with it in replicates the non DI VTBass. I might be wrong, but its not quite a simple as one has the button and the other doesn’t. There is also the second gen VTBass which had the speaker defeat button added. Agree though, for me the VTBass DI was the best of the lot. I hated the MK1 pedal when i had it, but i didnt give it long enough. When I borrowed a mates one i fell in love with it. The features on the DI were the icing on the cake. I do feel that unlike the BDDI, the VTBDI doesn’t need the blend to be usable. I dont think i ever used the blend backed off, where as with my BDDI’s the blend is never higher than 10 o’clock. . -
Issues when quoting in replies on iPad.
dave_bass5 replied to dave_bass5's question in Site Issues and Questions
It’s not a cache issue as it happens on 3 different iOS devices, but yeah, it’s definitely a browser issue. With a keyboard attached there is no issue jumping in and out of the quotes, but without it once the curser is in there there seems to be no way of getting out out, not even using the iOS keyboard shortcuts. -
Who would you have been seeing next before lockdown?

Got tickets the week before lockdown to go and see Melissa Etheridge next month. They were an early birthday present for my GF -

Cheers. You can move the slots on the Pod Go, so the plan is to have it at the start. The advantage of using the fx loop is it’s there anyway. I had planned on using the Rochester, but that will take up a block, so for now I’ll use the Becos. This will help me get a bette feel and understanding. Hard to use my ears when setting things up with headphones for live use. It also means it’s closer to my old pedalboard which has a micro Thumpinator at the very start. -

Got a question relating to using a Comp with the Helix (or Pod Go). As much as i like the new Rochester Comp it would be a shame not to use my Becos, especially as I love the visual indication from the meter. As I’m still finding my round Comp I find it’s helping me adjust things. As the Pod Go has an effects send/return in every patch, i thought i might use this and run the Comp in, at the start of each patch. This saves me using the Rochester and taking up one of the 4 slots. This I assume will enter the path after the HPF/noise gate and Global EQ, which i quite like the idea of. Obviously running it before the Helix will mean the compressed tome will go through those. Ive tried it with my Stomp and it works fine, but I’m not sure if that is better than running it before the Helix. I can only use headphones a at home so cant really get a true indication of whats better. I do like the idea of the HPF first in the chain. Any comments? What i do like is that the Becos is so small it will actually sit on the Pod Go rather than on the floor (I’m not using a board), and I’m hoping I can take a feed off the Line6 PSU for it. -
Always a relief when you spend money to fix an issue and it fixes the issue. Play away......

Nice one. Good luck with it.

Here’s a cool feature the Pod Go has. Create a basic patch and you can save this to all the blank presets with one action. Makes creating multiple patches with similar effects much quicker. -

Cheers Bas. Luckily my Stomp is still hooked up to my PC so I’ll give it a go in the morning. Oh, just noticed its a PDF. Thought it was the patch itself. -

Yep, it was just a rumour that some put round on TB Because they miss understood what was happening. I think it was mentioned around the time the 2.9 press reuse was put out, that 8 blocks would be available in the future, but some took it to mean with the next update. One or two people posted that and it spread. -
For me the killer feature of the Spectradrive (other than the Spectracomp) is the EQ system. I love how it works and sounds, in fact enough to go and buy a BH800 head.

Anyway, back to (Helix) business. I watched the whole of that video, and its quite interesting about the Stomp only having 6 blocks. Apparently they could have put more in, but then that dilutes the amount of processing power. They decided that as it was a new device they didnt want people complaining it wasn’t powerful enough. Now its been out a while they are letting owners make thier own decision on how many blocks to use, so going to up it to 8. Looks like V3.0 is going to be a very big update. -

Looks like the Stomp is getting the HX Command centre in V3. That’s a cool feature to have but i cant help feel the lack of foot switches will be a bottle neck. -

Thats a really useful and interesting video. So officially the amp and cab sims are improved in 2.9. Also Polytuning coming in FW 3 as well which is cool, although ive found it a bit of a gimmick. -

Thanks. I know what i want but not really up on whats out there. I cant use Garagband as it doesn’t seem to allow me to easily take out sections of larger files. As far as i can see only spitting files. I have got further. WavePad works pretty well for cutting down the large files. in fact its faster than me doing it on my PC. It lacks the smoothness at the joins, but its only rehearsal recordings. I can save the edited wave file to the FIles app. I can then send that file to Final Touch to master. I then save it to an app called Audio Share. This then allows me to export to whatever format i want (other than MP3 iconically). AAC 320kbps seems fine for my use. Doesn’t have to be MP3. Its a long winded workflow so ill keep on looking, but its still faster than using just one program on my PC to do it all. The rendering times on on iPad are very short compared to my PC. If only these apps all spoke to each other. Audio Share is supposed to glue it all together, ironic is doesn’t do MP3 though. Thanks for the input though.

Quick update. Think ill drop Hokusai in favour of WavePad. Just found this. Much more user friendly for cutting and trimming. It also has all the features i need for outputting. Still not ideal for mastering though. Only issue with this app is when you hit the stop button it jumps to the start of the file. Hitting Pause works but it’s easy to forget. Also no apple keyboard support.

Thanks. I use a Roland digital recorder to record the Gigs and rehearsals. This is in 24 bit 48khz wav format. I normally transfer these files to Adobe Audition on my PC. Cut out the gaps etc and output to high quality MP3 using Ozone mastering suite. As my ipad is more powerful i thought I’d give that a try. I can import the wav files in to Hokusai 2 and do the trimming. That too is a bit hit or miss but it does work. It does have loads of good plug ins but Final Touch seemed prefect as i can transfer the wav files directly in to it, and output to MP3. The interface is also very similar to Ozone and not just a long list of plugins. MP3 because i upload the files to DB for the others to download and listen to (yeah, as if they do that). So I’m looking for a proper mastering suite or section rather than seperate tools if that makes sense. FT will output 48khz MP3, but only at 125kbps. Normally I’d use 320kbps, but need to vary it sometimes to keep the file under 200mb for Apple Music. I dont mind buying a DAW that includes mastering, ive seen a few good ones, but not going to stretch to something like Cubasis 3 which is much too expensive. I’m only working with single stereo files. For Daw stuff I’m happy using GarageBand.
