Helix Floor/LT/HX/Stomp/PodGo owners' Club - Tips, Ideas & Patches
dave_bass5 replied to Al Krow's topic in Effects
We were recently talking about using the Helix as an audio interface. Came across this from Jason. Thought i might help and clear some things up. -
Was going to say that but thought I’d get shot down. I thought it was quite pedestrian, but I realise he isnt known for his slap.

Get a Q/strip pedal and have loads of options 😉
-
I also have a feeling the surge in new instruments might come from the fact that we cant go and try them out now, so the only option is to buy. Less time wasters i guess. Just noticed Spain is reportedly going to allow outdoor concerts with 200 or less people from Monday. That wouldn’t effect my audience 😔

I know we have a short thread about this already, but its now live. What a lovely bass.
-
Yeah. Like you say, things are changing, although i doubt live music will ever die, its just going to change a bit for while. In a few years time i tihnk we will be back to normal, assume the virus is under control. To be honest all those acoustic versions of songs are draining me and i hope this is not the way forward.

The 1x15 on there is also very good. I do think a BDDI or the much cheaper Behringer BDI-21 would be a better option, as you will have more control over them. This scenario is exactly why they were developed.

I’ve been using this in place of a cab sim for a while now. It’s very good (not sure how close it is though) and seems to have more of a kick over the cab sim.

Yeah, when this does all start to normalise people still need to eat and live, and at the moment with the government covering a lot of us for loss of earrings we might not be feeling the crunch yet, Then there’s there companies that make music gear, if sales slow down there will be redundancies there. With music venues gone there will be so many more out of work, a lot that have never had a proper job ;-). If you are in that position you cant help but worry.

Same here. Not always keen on it with some colour bodies. but I think Sire have picked the right colour to go with the Ash bodies.
-
Yep, not saying there is only one way either. Just how I see it. Just based on my experience.

I get the sentiment, but that hardly covers everyone. In my 30+ years of playing live i have never come across anything remotely dangerous to gear, other than the odd idiot dancing too close to the PA speaker. If i spent £1500 on a good bass I’d bloody well play it to death (and do). Going out and buying a cheaper bass for gigs doesn’t seem logical to me. Well, it does in a way if you are worried about damage, but then why obses so much about high end basses, must spend all this money because it feels great, plays like a dream etc, only to go and gig with a lesser bass? It’s a tool, its like any other tool, it can get damaged, but if it works whats the problem? People seem to be thinking of resale value and not enjoying wheat they have. If you brought an expensive couch would you also by some cheap chairs to sit on so the couch can be sold at a later date for as much money as possible lol. Nothing to say buying a bass that plays well and sounds good will not last years. The OP needs to try some, and buy the one he feels is the best for him. No matter what the cost. Don’t look to sell it before you even get it, to get something better, because if you get the one that you like how can it get any better. ....says the man with 6 basses lol.

As per our background chat, I’d like to ask those who know about these things if this is possible? Ive used ASIO since it first came out or low latency. The question is, is there really a huge difference in sound quality with using ASIO drivers? Maybe ive just always used them without releasing for playback, but i thought it was just a high quality way of bypassing the audio system bus and talking directly with the sound card.

One in each corner of the room. Sorted !!!!

Just buy another Fearless F112 and use them as a stereo pair 🙂
-
Exactly. Why max out the budget on a really good, but not suitable bass. Any bass should be able to do the Job, especially in this price range, but not all basses will feel or sound the same. Could be a costly mistake. I do agree though that although cheaper basses are good enough, when you pay more you get a bit more. The worst thing is to get a bass and struggle with it because its not holding tuning or there is fret sprout etc. This is less likely to happen further up the price scale, but not uncommon.
-
Yeah, been there many times. Always had a lucky escape though 😁
-
I’m a big fan of not paying too much, but I think its worth pointing out that a better made bass has more chance of lasting. Ive never damaged any bass ive had, but ive had cheap basses whose necks would never stop changing, tuners that needed replacing, wiring that was poor and unreliable. These were all cheap (sub £300) basses ive had over the years. These days £300 will get you decent gear, but doesn’t guarantee a long lasting 100% reliable bass if you are going on tour etc.

I love that blue burst. Looks similar to my Fender Sandblasted. Just needs black hardware 🙂
