I agree Alex, I have the Orange Bass Butler and the symbols are much easier to read when space is limited. Symbols are a positive step forward.

I don't mean to put this new adventure from Barefaced down but I was also expecting an amp to match their great range of cabs. I feel the Orange Bass Butler offers so much more with an onboard compressor, two DI outs with cab Sims and a similar parallel distortion / clean signal path. I honestly wish Alex well with this pedal and I look forward to a Basschat review very soon.

200 watts from the 6550s. Plenty for most gigs that I will do. As we all know there is not much different in perceived volume between 200 and 280 watts. Sounds great to my ears.

Just a quick follow up on my YI-200 review. On firing up the amp one morning after a few weeks use I discovered a horrible distorted noise coming from the speakers. I opened the back to view the valves and one was glowing very blue.😡 After a quick conversation with Martin at Stoneham the amp was boxed up and sent to him. Two days later we talked and one of the KT120 valves had cracked. Martin advised that he preferred the 6550 valve because of it reliability and sound. He swapped over the valves did a bias check and soaked tested it for 5 days. This morning it arrived back 😄 and sounds fantastic. I would like to thank Martin for his quick response and very professional attitude and advice in sorting out my valve problem. I thoroughly recommend Martin for his amazing product and professional attitude to his customers. Thanks again Martin.

I bought and sent back the light weight version on the Warwick 2x8 cab. It farted at medium volume and had no deep bass. It was just a midrange cab. If partnered with a 1x15 it might make sense but as a stand alone cab it was very poor, even for the bargain Thomann price.

I'm sending it back Plugged headphones in and it buzzes. Utter crap ... It could of been so good. 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

The only way to stop it clipping and distorting is to back off the input gain to the noon position. This is a long way before the clip light and compressor kicks in at the 4 o'clock position, which is supposed to be the proper clip indicating position. Best to use your ears rather than the indication LED. This of course leaves the compressor redundant, its threshold is set way to high and there is no way to change it. 😒 The EQ and Enhance knob work really well and the DI and main output have a cleanish output. Overall it's a good pedal for £60. I certainly would not of paid nearly £150 when they first came out. I will give it a few more days before it might go back.

I've just received one for an early Xmas present from the wife. If I boost the bass just a little it distorts a very long way before the clip light and compressor kicks in. The only way to sort it is to turn down the gain so much the compressor hasn't got a hope in hell of working..... Useless. This makes the compressor redundant. The eq is pretty good with a lot of scope to adjust the sound. Has anyone else had this gain problem.

Bought some used strings. Very quick payment and a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended.

Review of a Mama replacement pickup for the Epiphone Jack Casady Bass. I have no financial interest or affiliation to Mama. Signal chain… Jack Casady strung with Pyramid Gold flats, Flattley Bass Fuzz, Stoneham YI-200 valve amp. I wanted a replacement pickup for the Jack Casady bass I bought last month, it didn't have the original pickup or wiring installed. My new to me bass came with a very hot single coil pickup that really made the sound too aggressive for my tastes. This is because I play in a three piece acoustic style band that requires a more mellow sound. They're was nothing fundamentally wrong with the single coil, it just didn't give me the sound I was after. After a prolonged Google search I found only one company who made a replacement pickup for the Jack Casady Bass. It was Mama pickups based in Italy. They make the pickup in black, white or cream and it can be ordered with three choices of wiring with pots and two mounting screw colour options. I ordered a black pickup with black mounting screws and the simple tone and volume wiring. Other wiring options include a single coil tap and an elaborate single coil, parallel, serial switching arrangement using the original impedance switch is available. It only took a few days to arrive from Italy and I excitedly opened the well packed package. The package contained the pickup, screws, two high quality mojo (CTS) pots and an orange tone cap. The wiring loom was not pre made so you will need wire and soldering equipment and the original input socket. I'm good with a soldering iron so making the loom was straightforward because Mama supplied a simple and easy to use wiring diagram which is available on line. If you can't work a soldering iron then you will need a guitar tech to install the pickup for you. The original plastic pickup surround needed a small amount of modification to allow the larger screws to fit through it and widening because the pickup is slightly to big for the original pickup surround. Installation was not hard but it did require a little work and thought. Within two hours the pickup was in, adjusted and tested. Instantly I was impressed with the sound. It was slightly darker than the single coil but more importantly it lost nothing of the punch and power. I fiddled with the pickup height and managed to dial in the right sound for my playing style. My preferred sound, after an hour of playing at home, was the volume on full with the tone set to number 5 on the 1 - 10 dial. If I had to compare the sound with another bass I would say it's like a Precision with a slight hollow ring from the acoustic body of the bass. It is perfect for my three piece acoustic style band and sounds fantastic with Pyramid Gold flats installed on the bass. Cost was around £185 for the pickup, screws, pots and tone cap. I can only conclude that Mama has a new follower and customer. I would love to hear their Jazz pickups installed on a future bass purchase. 😄
