  1. I came here to post this exact scene and song. It's brilliant.
  2. Cheers guys, a DI box is a consideration but the buzz was so loud (and present even when the amp power supply was disconnected which was weird) that it's not going to do the trick for me long term. So I'm moving on, probably back to Markbass where I've been for the last ten years. Strangely, not a single member of the audience commented on the fact I was DI'ing out of my pedal. Ignorant lot 🤣
  3. Thanks all, will experiment a bit tomorrow and see what's happening. Nice gig anyway 👍
  4. Tried it with various xlrs and was the same. When everything was unplugged it still buzzed like a ghost and then went away slightly when I touch the metal case of the amp. The first set has gone well anyway!
  5. OK, so just bought a new ashdown rootmaster evo ii 500. First gig with it tonight and the DI is causing a big buzz. Indeed, having exhausted various possible sources, it still buzzes when the amp power socket is out and nothing is plugged into it except the DI cable! Luckily, I can DI out my pedal for tonight but can the basschat experts tell me any solution other than I've got unlucky and need to box it up to send it back? Hopefully the gig will take my mind off it for a couple of hours!
  6. This bassist and this exact song got me into bass 👍👍
  7. Heard Wizzard on the radio today, made me sad. I LOVE gigging that song every year 😔
  8. Great effort, thanks for sharing. And Rio with a plectrum!
  9. Some great singers here. For me, two standouts. Jessie J - such phenomenal control and variety. And Hannah Reid, agree @Wilco. Such an emotive tone. And an honourable mention to Aimee Mann. So cool. Bassist too 😀.
  10. Maybe I should have been showing something like this!
  11. Lockdown browsing has led me to some gems where pop artists have shown their stripped down skills and their true musical and songwriting talents have been allowed to shine. Admittedly, this is an 80s edition due to my age but all three of these mainstream pop stars had me seriously impressed even though already a fan. So what other artists maybe wouldn't impress that much on record but have got serious talent when stripped down?
  12. I enjoyed that a lot. Nice playing.
  13. Sadly the last one. A View To A Kill. I always thought there was some plectrum palm-muting on this but no mention. Good discussion of the song though.
  14. Well, tonight's was interesting. A Power Station track. Enjoyed this one.
  15. Two drummers can be cool. Pretty sure Add (N) to X had two. Sometime in the late 90s I was going to a lot of gigs and they always seemed to be on the bill. No live footage unfortunately to back up my memory.
  16. The Reflex up tonight
  17. Enjoyed that. Amusing start too 😊
  18. Rio was good tonight. Obviously a killer bass line, one of the first I played when I took up bass, an inspiration. He's having fun too.
  19. Bernard's Ray I do believe.
  20. I bought a Vigier bass from Derek Forbes that he had apparently used with Propaganda and SM. I emailed Patrice Vigier to ask for more info on the bass. As I remember, his reply was brief and to-the-point, something about Derek making that bass sound great and I'm very disappointed that he sold it to you 🤣
  21. I think this week's was better. He seems to he having fun and that looks like Bernard Edwards MM to me 👍. Girls on Film Night Version, what an awesome track that is.
  22. This might be of interest during our lockdown days.
  23. Very sad. The Stranglers were a major part of my musical upbringing and Dave's influence on their sound was never less than front-and-centre.
  24. Indeed, sorry for any confusion. The keyboard made it look obvious. Transferring it to the bass was much harder. Hence I gave up and am in need of a refresh.
