  1. Just got into the musicman world after many years of many other basses. Now got two pretty much the same spec SR5s. The red is likely to be the main gigging bass with the burgundy as back up. Or I might swap around if the vibe takes me. Gigged them for the first time last week. Powerful basses, cut through so nicely. Sorry for the rubbish pic. The red has a nice grain to it. Now I need to find another mm hardcase as only one came with one.
  2. Buyer's Remorse can hit us all but rest assured you've got a bargain there so you won't lose out money-wise if you pass it on. Give it a go, you might like it 👍
  3. Yep, the bass mix was pretty poor considering that's what we were there to hear! Good event though and Marcus played tastefully as always but let rip with some crazy double thumbing which was cool. Nice guy.
  4. Just me then! It was a good evening, his playing was superb even though the room really didn't allow for a clean bass mix (I was at the back which probably didn't help) and his anecdotes and tips were interesting.
  5. Anyone going tonight? I'm hoping to pending work.
  6. Traded a Dingwall for a Musicman with Paul. Very easy transaction, arranged a meeting place and he even brought a portable amp so we could try the basses in the car park. Top guy, trade with confidence 👍
  7. Me too. July at Brixton. Can't wait.
  8. Could you be tempted by a swap/trade for another Dingwall?
  9. Saw Elton live for the first time yesterday. An impressive show all round. Matt Bissonette was an absolute monster - the FOH mix was superb and he cut through brilliantly. I now have major Musicman GAS...thanks Matt 😡
  10. Great looking bass. Where are you based?
  11. Oh no, so sad. A superb player 😔
  12. Just got tickets to see Babymetal at Brixton. Loved them a couple of years back, should be an event. Luckily, we have seats so won't have to battle the Circle of Death 😊
  13. We decided to play a number of songs we hadn't gigged for years last night. I was a little dubious at first and a bit worried that they wouldn't come back to me but it turns out they totally rejuvenated the playing live vibe. We've been getting a little stale recently so now have decided to get our older songs back on rotation so no two gigs are the same. It's genuinely enthused me and I'd forgotten how much I enjoy playing a big variety of styles. Looking forward to the rest of the year with renewed enthusiasm knowing that RATM could follow James Blunt who could follow Chic with some Simple Minds to conclude 😁
  14. Only with me in a Halloween costume!! I can take some if you're interested. And here's Derek playing it.
  15. Derek Forbes selling me his Vigier. Lovely bloke and a great bass that will never be sold again.
  16. I use the B string all the time, nearly every song. Playing up the neck is what makes a 5 worthwhile imo
  17. June Millington = cool AF!
  18. It happens to me occasionally. Normally when I'm playing a verse and can't remember what's coming next. My strategy nowadays is to stop thinking and just let the hands remember when the time comes. Works surprisingly often!
  19. 4300 Plus we have 3 sound guys who I would describe as being friendly with. Only of the band was I friends with before we started but, after ten years, I regard the band as all close friends of mine I could always rely on. That doesn't mean that they all don't get on my tits on a regular basis though 😅
  20. Being in a covers band, most of the music we play is rarely my cup of tea. But the upside is that playing it gets us much more gigs, bigger audiences and money. The buzz comes from pleasing the audience and enjoying the atmosphere. It's a lot of fun! I'd love to also get the buzz from playing my taste in music but the two rarely cross over. Cover bands are a different world which needs a different approach. I'd say learn the songs, give it your all and see where it goes. You might enjoy it in a way you didn't expect. Like others have said, don't go for a jam, that'll not go down well. Good luck!
  21. I definitely find this one of the gentler forums and much the better for it.
  22. I've just started a rough YouTube channel of my band's gigs as a promo tool. Some of the clips are a bit rough, all live phone vids and the like, but this one came out nice and I was pretty pleased with the live sound. What you think?
  23. Try The Armoury Show for how The Skids were improved later.
