Saw Steel Panther last week. Love those guys, hilarious. Next gig in a couple of weeks is Simple Minds at The Roundhouse, playing their new album in its entirety. Then a bit of a wait til Foo Fighters in the summer.

How could I forget that vital ingredient 👍

I love private gigs. I feel a greater sense of professionalism and desire to put on a great show when you know you have a specific client. It’s also nice knowing someone has chosen you when they could have had any other band. Don’t get me wrong, I love the fun of pubs and a chance to have play to a variety of people who don’t feel an obligation to enjoy - they either like you or they don’t - but given the choice I prefer the private gigs.

Santa bought me tickets to their Shepherds Bush gig . Seen them once before, they’re brilliant.

Can’t help on the bass but what a great group with some great bass playing and guitar work. Almost made me like Richard Jobson.

"Dad, I want to play bass, who should I listen to?"

I totally agree with letting children/beginners playing along to the music that gets them going the most. Enthusiasm and enjoyment will be let drivers in improvement. If I had to throw one bassist at them from my own POV it would be anything by Bernard Edwards. Such awesome groove, bass to the fore and memorable/fun lines. -
We've used deps on a number of occasions and I never really enjoy it. Even with our regular dep drummer (who was a session musician for many years, including Level 42 no less!), it's a little nerve wracking as it never feels quite as natural. However, we never want to cancel a gig so we make sure we're as prepared as possible. We've had a couple of just show-and-go deps which is tough but we've rarely had an audience been upset about it as we do our very best to keep it tight and play our socks off no matter what. So I'd say it's worth going for but be prepared to feel different and up your game to maintain standards - for example, with all our deps I tend to babysit closely and play the role of conductor. But we always feel good that the show still went on.
Luckily, Ambient comes across as a good guy. Can't see him scoring out Agadoo as a cruel joke!!
Ambient has already promised to include a Kylie Minogue middle eight.

Is it me? I'm finding The Foo Fighters boring!!!

I'm not a big fan but enjoyed it much more than i expected. As a result, just booked tickets to see them at the O2. -
Tattoo removal is expensive and painful (more than tattoos apparently). And if you decide to get a tattoo - in my opinion - it's for life. It will always be there and it's a reminder that at some point in your life you wanted that particular thing. From my experience - everyone has a different opinion about tattoos. Covers, blast-overs etc is a whole other world...
Maybe I should have put one of these 😋
Find an artist who's good with lines and talk to him. Examples of exceptional line work: https://www.instagra...ekniuans/?hl=en https://www.instagram.com/krisciezlik/ https://www.instagra...ltattoos/?hl=en Yes, those artists are expensive, but I figured - tattoos are for life and only go for the best.
If you can let me know how much of the song, I'm guessing just an excerpt? I can do it in Sibelius.
Thank you, that would be great, I'll pm you

Ok, so without wishing to get into a big tat debate, I fancy getting a bassline tattoo or two, as a score in the bass clef. Trouble is finding what I want. Ideally, I'd want Duran's Last Chance On The Stairway and also Simple Minds' Colours Fly And Catherine Wheel. These, unsurprisingly, don't seem to be commonly available as scores. Any idea how i could either find them or create them in a suitable form to tattoo?

Hands down the best voice I've ever heard.

I think this is truly beautiful. https://youtu.be/vM4glPisJo4 I'm also a big fan of the variation of tone in this https://youtu.be/D-MqOga7iN4 -
Like many on here it seems, I used to think I couldn't do BVs and play bass but then I found I could after some practice. It's always the rhythm that I need to practise, the harmonies aren't such a problem. With tricky ones, I slow it right down and approach it mathematically to pinpoint how the vocal rhythm fits into the bass rhythm. When you get it right, it's great fun. I much prefer the tracks I sing on.

This was quite fun to watch. He really should have played bass too though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CML3gkL-6N8

One of those pleasing but disappointing gigs. We really had our backs to the wall with sickies from our sound guy and guitarist at the last minute. So we were mixing ourselves and had a dep guitarist we met on the night. In my book we were well below par and had a limited set based on what the guitarist could play. However, we pulled it off and didn't let the venue down (which is always vital to us no matter what problems we have). The disappointing bit was that the crowd still loved it and had a great time - which doesn't say much for how highly we value the hours of practice and being tight with our normal set up! Really, though, it's always nice to pull off a gig when having lots of problems behind the scene so all was good.
After two days of use the G10 transmitter began to work perfectly or not at all and the LED on it would flash green indicating an electronic(vs mechanical) problem but only with the EUB,it was OK with BG.I checked the Line 6 site and some forums and found that a few other people have had this problem-works great and then dies.Since I was planning to use it at gigs I need something that always works and that I don't need to worry about I returned it for a refund instead of a replacement. As I said in earlier posts, the convenience and sound were great but I don't feel I can trust it so it's back to the cable for my gig today and perhaps another foray into the wireless world in the future. From what I have read most people have no problems with the product but after my experience I don't have confidence in it. Too bad,it was great when it was working.
That's a shame to hear. Mine has done a hundred or so gigs without any problems. Hopefully you can find a solution that you're happy with as once the freedom of wireless is felt it's hard to go back.
I've seen some footage of Chad drumming for Baby Metal (very funny), was that for a full gig to cover man flu ridden drummer I wonder?
Yeah, Chadmetal came on all dressed up and played drums for their last track plus a cool version of Breaking The Law. I must say, a very cool band they were indeed.
-
So they were pretty good last night. Played very tight and a good sound. Was hoping for some more early tracks and the set was a little short but still was a very good night. Babymetal were absolutely brilliant - so much fun and backed by an uber tight metal band.

When it's a diddy as opposed to a did on the top note, I tend to use thumb for the bom and middle then index for the diddy. Means I don't always have the attack on the bom that I'd like but it gives a comfortable hand position and makes the diddy easier.

I'm going to see them on Sunday. Getting well excited now!

As a general rule, the more you move and the more fun you look like you're having the better. On stage, I try to model what I want from the audience. Can't expect them to jump around, laugh and have fun if I'm not. I typically go over the top and it rarely fails to amuse the audience which then gives them good memories and an excuse to engage with us.
