    I've never played a Kingston, but if they're anything like my Grendel, they'll be very nice. I did hear a Kingston being played live in a band on a French camp site in Brittany back in 2023. It sounded fantastic.

    Bought second hand off ebay probably around 2015 or so. I played with it to make sure it was all working normally, and put it back in the box. Sadly it has stayed there. £85 is with tracked insured postage which will cost about £10 based on recent experience. If you wanted to collect then, I'll knock off a tenner. A cursory look on ebay seemed to indicate this is priced below what they are typically selling for on there, but if you feel it's overpriced then please make me a offer You will see in one of the pictures that on the top left hand corner of the unit, there is a small split in the plastic. Pretty sure this was not there when i received it, and that it's happened during the 8/9 years that it's been sitting in a box. Comes boxed with manual, but there is no external power supply. Requires a standard 9v dc centre negative, or can run on batteries. Not much else to say other than I hope someone else can get more use out of it than I have 😂

    more thoughts from a sample size of 1 (me), I found transitioning to a 5 string fairly easy, but found trying to navigate a 6th string was a much bigger deal for all sorts of reasons which would have required me putting in a load more work in to adjust my playing technique to get the best out of it, which I wasn't prepared to do. Especially annoying because the 6er I had briefly was a very lovely instrument (MTD 635) So, a cheap 5er strung E to C is IMO a good starting point for your experiment. Also, if you decided to move it on for whatever reason, I think a 5er would be easier to sell/trade than a 6er.

    If you're not sure i would recommend investing in a cheap second hand bass/basses to figure out your preferences. Edit, also if you want to do more chordal playing, 35" will make it harder, depending on how large your hands are. 24 frets probably better for that upper range, and a 19mm string spacing also would be a physical push. Sounds like youre happy with narrow spacing. and also perhaps avoid multi scale basses too. I think a used fretted ibanez gwb35 would be a good bet you you can find one.

    Yes, but I don't have the original preamp in mine. The previous owner installed another Bart pre (ntmb-918f), with similar controls to a US MTD. Vol (active/passive push/pull), bal, bass/treb, mid and 3-way mid-freq select. It's also running at 18v, so they probably enlarged the battery compartment too to fit the extra battery. It's a fairly tidy job on the battery cavity though, so difficult to say if it was like that originally or not. From the pictures, they may have just removed the original integrated battery holder and then there was just enough space (it's a pretty tight fit) for 2 x 9v. The pickups are barts, and look similar to those in the pictures, so probably original, non-exposed pole pieces.

    Just checked my Grendel: Zero fret: 48mm 12th: 68mm 24th: 77mm String spacing at the bridge: 19mm Depth at 12th: 24mm Scale: 35" Sounds like the neck on the Stadium is slightly narrower towards the body, presumably because of the narrower string spacing. It's a very similar neck profile to a US MTD, and my Groove Shoppe GS5 which also has a MT licensed neck. In other words, pretty comfy, asymmetric profile too.

    With out knowing the exact budget, its difficult to gauge what "cheap" is. However, if weight is not too much of an issue, it seems to be a great time to buy quality used bass cabs. Many seem to be downsizing or going down the super-light-weight route, so there always seems to me to be a few bargains to be had on the older heavier (in some cases not so heavy) cabs.

    Quoting from that notreble marketing blurb “By reducing tendon stress with Thumb Fin’s ergonomic design you will be able to more naturally focus on technique while optimizing joint health,” Can't say i ever felt i needed a thumb rest, or needed one to reduce "tendon stress". IMO it's going to encourage bad technique and make it likelier to increase stress by encouraging a static anchored position. If you really want to focus on technique, this is not the answer.

    To my ear, the that guy is playing it an octave up from the isolated track, and i don't hear an open A in there either. Here's the run I'm hearing on my phone speaker, noting that the E string is downtuned to a D. A -5-3- D ---- -6-5-3-0-3-5-0
