1.
Bump. Suprised there's no interest in these as they're massively well regarded. I've been given some advice that I might not be putting enough juice into them which is why I'm not feeling the oompfh, so I'm going to buy a decent power amp and give them another go, so they may well be withdrawn...
good call - I've used my 4ohm LowB2 with a 500 watt Mark Bass head. If you've got two of them you'd probably need a 1000w power amp to get the best out of them.
  2.
If it is still available I will take it. Thanks
it's yours... PM me your address and I'll get it packaged up for you. cheers G
  3. like this one, but maybe length is different? http://cgi.ebay.com/PLANET-WAVES-74mm-PADD...=item19b7bedbfe I bought a couple of months ago. It's in 99% mint condition, I've put it on one bass for a couple of months and it was only used by me practicing at home. Standing up, at the straps' shortest my bass was at a comfortable waist height. At it's longest you'll probably be pulling off a decent Hooky impression. It was a little too long to use while sitting down really (for me at least), it just ensured that the bass didn't just fall on the floor when I wasn't holding on to it. I paid $25 dollars for it in the States. Guess they would be around £20 mark in the UK, but I've not been able to verify that. I'm happy to give it away - i.e. first one to say they want it (by posting on this thread, not PM) can have it as long as they're prepared to donate, lets say £12 to Basschat. I'll cover P&P. Is that fair ? Cheers G EDIT: p.s. don't confuse this with the "Comfort Strapp" which is a different product entirely.
  4.
Hi. I can only guess at the weight... the missus doesnt like having scales in the house lool. I'd say its 9-10lbs bassaussie's played it, and he concurs about that estimate. the pups, so far as I know are singles, though there is no "singles" noise. the covers are sadowsky, but its been hinted that the original owner had swapped them for nordstrands. no idea, all I know is it sounds great.
when I sold this to Aussiephoenix it had the original Sadowsky single coil pups in the bass. As I recall, the pickup covers have the Sadowsky logo on them. From memory the weight was closer to 10 than 9.
  5. EDIT: SOLD
  6. hey Geoff - this seems to be a steal. I had a look at the Atelier web site, and to buy this new would be in the region of GBP1300 and that's not even including shipping and customs duty and vat which would add another 300 quid to the total no doubt. So, you're probably selling this for approximately what the shipping and taxes would come to on a new one! Anyway, good luck with the sale, this is a real *BARGAIN* IMO. cheers G
  7. I had someone PM about this bass and why I sold it to Aussiephoenix, this is what I said...:
Yes - it was a great bass - no problems with it apart from the wear marks on the finger board which were purely cosmetic. I played & gigged it - it really shined in the mix rather than as a "home practice" bass. Also A/B'd it with a Celinder J Update 5. Thought the Tokyo was the better of the two. Main reason I sold was I didn't like the 19mm string spacing, although ironically the basses I play now are all 19mm. If I had the cash, I'd consider buying it back, but I don't at the moment, so that's not going to happen
Edit: don't get me wrong - it also sounds good in a "home" practice environment. However, it was awesome live. I'm sure whoever picks this up would be very happy with it. By the way the previous owner to me is also knocking around here somewhere. He used to go by the name of russofjamm back in the BassWorld days, and I think he's on BC now with a different name which I can't remember. So there you have it! p.s. I should add that my transaction with AP went very smoothly, and I personally wouldn't hesitate to deal with him again.
  8. Sounds like you have picked up *another* nice bass but...
all the band immediately commented on how much more punch & clarity it had than my MTD535 which I'd used at the previous rehearsal (albeit running through the Ashdown's rather 'murky' pre-amp).
... I don't believe you - got to be the amp

    SOLD

just had a look on the Ken Smith web site. The BSR5J http://www.kensmithbasses.com/models/bsrj/bsrj.html which is a special order bass would cost $3850 base price. By my reckoning that, once you've paid shipping and import duty would cost you over GBP2900 - so this is less than half the price of a new one...
  10. right - i've done some price research. last one of these sold on ebay UK for GBP131 + 5 P&P similarly, you won't get one cheaper from the US looking at this I don't at the moment think I've over-priced mine - in fact its probably a bit less than what seems to be the going rate.
  11.
I need one before December.....good luck with the sale.
just found out today that I'll be back in London around the 22nd of November, if that's of any use to you?
I'll put this in the effects for sale forum - where you might get a few more readers..........
thanks - I noticed I'd put it in the wrong section 2 seconds after I posted it
  12. I have a Demeter Compulator which I've been thinking of letting go. I think I prefer my bass tone without any form of compression. Therefore, I probably don't need it just sitting around, and it'll help cover the cost of some pickups I've bought. It's in very good to mint condition, having had very light use. I still have the original box, also I think the instructions. I can't post any pictures at the moment, and won't be in a position to do so for a few weeks. In fact, I won't be able to sell/post it until around November 23rd. I'm going to ask for GBP 125 - and I'll cover paypal fees, and include insured postage within the UK. If you can collect (West London), I'll knock a tenner off and do it for GBP 115. The other thing I won't do, due to bad experiences here in the past, is to "hold" it (for free). So if you want it and are willing to back that up with cold cash, I'll be wanting a 50 quid deposit up front. And the balance once it's ready to post/or on collection. cheers! G
  13. i'd say you picked up a bargain. ideal for the purposes you've described. i tried one a couple of years ago and it sounded great, it just didn't go very loud.
  14. I remember doing some research into importing a Smith bass a year or so ago - I can't find the link, but there was some info up on the Ken Smith forum. Basically, at one time at least, they weren't exporting any Smith basses to Europe because they did not conform to the EU RoHs Directive which seeks to limit harmful substances contained in electrical goods/components and this also includes musical instruments by virtue of their hardware/electronics/pickups. These regulations came into effect in 2006. I don't know if this is still the case though. With regards to Ken not selling to the Gallery - this might seem idiosyncratic, but in some ways makes perfect sense. i.e. if Smith make a finite number of stock and they have retailers that have a proven track record of selling Smith basses, then surely you would give those retailers priority with the stock you have?
  15.
And, perhaps, whereabouts are you based?
Enterprise Studios, or the one I know at least, is in central London. So I'm guessing they are based in London.
  16. you're right - the bass is actually a Tobias Renegade here's another like it: http://www.gbase.com/gear/tobias-renegade-natural
  17. also just noticed that the seller is called shuker6music, so I'm guessing is the same person I bought my old Shuker 6 from. small world.
  18. looks like a Tobias Growler to me. In fact it looks like it might be the same one that was for sale used at the Bass Centre a few years ago, which I crossed paths with again when I bought a Shuker 6 string from the guy who had bought the Tobias. Can't be too many of these in this colour doing the rounds. It was a v nice bass. I'd say 350 is a very good price for it. ps the headstock looked like that on the one I played.
  19.
Hi there, I wanting to buy a really good practice amp and wondered if any people here can recommend some good ones or possibly have one for sale? Im after a good quality practice amp, im interested in the ampeg combos such as the BA115, can anyone offer their thoughts on good quality practice amps? I dont wannt spend more than £250 Cheers Ian
i really liked the Roland Bass Cube that I used to have. Worked fine with a low B too. Guess it depends on how loud you want it to go.
  20. i mainly just use the pickup pan to change the tonal character. amp eq flat, and very minor tweaks to on board eq very occasionally. it's mostly like adding salt and pepper - season to taste at the rehearsal/gig. i don't use any effects.
  21. what's up with the headstock? it looks like there's a big crack on it by the G string tuner? By the way, this link I got from TB a few months ago in on a thread there about the Cirrus. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWEjrFxfaBE They sound pretty tasty to me
  22.
Just been through the back catalog of Overwater Progress sales here and £800 seems to be the average! What you lot think of that!
way under priced IMO. i would hold out for a trade rather than sell it that low.
  23.
There's going to be more glamorous suggestions but I had a pair of Kent Armstrong humbuckers installed on a Les Evans custom of mine and they sounded immense. I had exactly the same HZ's on a second bass and they sounded nowhere as full and rounded. I think KA's are often overlooked because we generally assume there is a relationship between price and quality and therefore convince ourselves that something esoteric and preferably American is always going to be better than something half the price and 'British'.
EMGs may be glamourous but I've no experience of Kent Armstrong pups so couldn't comment on them either way. The two basses (Shuker & MPG Level 5) I had with the EMG 40 DC pups both had tons of mid-range growl/bark. I really liked the sound, but the basses didn't quite fit. The Spectors I've played that had EMGs also sounded very similar. Re. Bartolinis. I've played/owned various basses with them on. IMO they sound a lot smoother than the EMGs. If I was after mid-range bark, EMG 40DCs all the way.
