1. hi Alex, your link doesn't seem to work - this one does. Nice looking bass too
 2. like this ? (url="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v111/Wraithwrider/JB6.jpg")(img)http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v111/Wraithwrider/th_JB6.jpg(/img)(/url) I've changed the [] square brackets to () so that the link displays as text for you. Photobucket generates the thumbnail for you when you add the "th_" in front of the photo name.
 3. hey Ash, I forgot to check back to see the pics - that bass is awesome, glad you are happy with it! cheers G
 4. Anyone around Camden on Thursday? We're playing at the Bullet Bar, so if you're stuck for something to do, why not come along? Date: 26 February 2009 Time: 20:00 - 23:30 Location: Bullet Bar Street: 147 Kentish Town Road Town/City: London, United Kingdom A bit cheaper with this flyer Tunes and stuff here: http://www.chimovski.co.uk/ http://www.myspace.com/chimovski cheers G
 5.
Yep, those are the fellas. Mediums so 45-65-85-105-130 IIRC. Of interest?
hi Gareth, I'm sure they're good strings, but I'm afraid that I need a lighter gauge set...
 6. The last couple of band rehearsals I've ended up having 2 1x15" cabinet stacks at the studio (Survival in Acton if anyone is interested). I took my Mark Bass F500 with me in my bag - one of the reasons I bought it actually - easy to carry on public transport and guarantee that I can have at least a decent amplifer at reheasal studios which tend to have equipment that I don't like the sound of as much. The first time I had a Trace Elliott stack of 2 1x15" - dunno which models. The second time I had a similar Behringer stack. The main difference I found was that the TE's were much less sensitive. But generally I **REALLY** like the sound of 2 1x15" cabs paired with the F500. Both the TE's and Behringers sounded great and I don't think there were any tweeters in any of the cabs. Now what will give me that tone in 1 (not much I suspect) or 2 light boxes? Normally I only have one cab at ground level, so how much of the sound comes from having a second cab at ear level? How much comes from having a vertical array of similar speakers, rather than a mix of difference speaker sizes? My next experiment will be to take my EBS Neo 212 and place it at ear level and see how that sound compares to the 2 1x15" cabs together. One thing I know is that the last thing I need GAS for is large speaker cabinets!
 7. well, I sold a set to Garry thinking thats all I had, but I just found another set this morning while I was clearing out my gig bag, this now this other set is up for grabs. Exactly the same as above, interested in similar trades as before and will sell outright for £30. I will split the 4 string set and sell separately as long as someone also wants to buy the B string separately. cheers G
 8. isn't this the bass that Uriah Duffy was gonna buy a couple of years back ?
 9.
Ken Smith tapercore nickel set of interest Gwil?
hi Gareth - what gauge are they - are the the "Burner" nickel set?
Not seen anything yet...? Again? G
just tried again!
 10.
Thanks for everyone's comments. I take the point that it comes down to technique and feel rather than a specific bass. But the suggestions on what to look for are really helpful, too.
my first reply was a bit terse - and I'd had a few beers at the time - come on Wales!!! So, what I'd look for in a bass: i) It's got to be able to be set up with a decent low action - (although I'd argue the case for that whatever style you wanted to play). ii) IMO, 21 frets rather than 24. I find with 24, there is less space between the neck pick-up and the end of the finger board. Also the (slapping) arm gets pushed back toward the bridge because of the longer finger board, which I think (especially if you're learning slap) might be a bit of a hinderance. iii) And strings that are medium/light gauge. iv) Maple neck and finger board. v) probably worth starting of on a 4 stringer too. You're tastes might differ of course, but thats my 2 pennies worth. Good luck! G
 11. you can slap on any bass - so it boils down to what kind of tone you like. i would suggest just getting a decent bass for your money, and then worry about the technique
 12.
I don't even get on with Jazzes and I love this..
it's lovely, you should try it come on someone buy it! Just to recap, I'd be interested in trades on MTD 535's fretted or fretless, F Bass BNF5, an NS CRM5, Celinder J5, Atelier Z, Ken Smith 5 A decent acoustic guitar. A Fender US Strat Ibanez Gary Willis fretless (any model) Marin Mount Vision 2008, Specialized Stumpjumper Expert 2008 Nikon D200/D300 digital SLR or feel free to make other suggestion... or an offer. Worst thing I can do is laugh at you
 13.
go on then. I will have them. Drop me a pm with payment details. The Stingray is going BEAD!
hi Garry, I sent you a PM a couple of days back - not sure if you've got it ?
 14.
Would you be willing to sell it and maybe put that towards a longer one?
hi - i'll hold out for a trade for a little longer - but if I decide to sell it, you are officially first in line
 15.
I wish i could afford this, it's just so nice! Best of luck with the sale, hope it goes to a good home
thanks! I'm adding to the trade list too (+/- cash etc): A decent acoustic guitar. A Fender US Strat Ibanez Gary Willis fretless (any model) or feel free to make other suggestion...
 16. EDIT: resurrecting this thread from the dead... I've a couple of these strapps in the same size, so I'm selling one of them, as I've just replaced it with a longer version. My measurement give a length range of 37" to 42.5" which doesn't quite tally with the specs on their site, but it does fall approximately into the "long" category. I guess they stretch a little when theres a 10lb hunk of wood attached to either end. http://www.comfortstrapp.com/products.htm Otherwise £15 posted ok? (p.s. both the straps I have show pretty exactly the same amount of wear, so I don't think it makes any difference as to which one you will get i.e. they are showing some normal signs of wear, but are is a good condition - used not abused). EDIT: I'm now sorted for a mono strap, so just looking for a straight sale on this.
 17.
Really nice to see such detail in the for sale thread.. That's a very classy looking bass Gwil, and the U-Retro makes it look even better IMO. Good luck with the sale...
hi Nik, thanks It certainly is a lovely bass looks wise and sound wise (esp with the new addition of the U-Retro). I've already got 6 basses including this one, and plenty of GAS, so something has to give, if I'm to allow myself another bass. Luckily, 2 of the basses I was aiming at have sold, so theres not a great rush now. cheers Gwil p.s. bump! p.p.s I know I said no trades, but i would certainly consider trades (+cash either way where appropriate) on any of the following: MTD 535's fretted or fretless, F Bass BNF5, an NS CRM5, Celinder J5, Atelier Z, Ken Smith 5 Marin Mount Vision 2008, Specialized Stumpjumper Expert 2008 Nikon D200/D300 digital SLR
 18. awesome - nicest vintage Fender I've seen (possibly)
 19. Medium set of Elixir Nanoweb Strings to trade for another 5 string set. 1 x 4 string set 45, 65, 85, 105 1 x B string 130 taperwound These might not be appropriate for 35" scale (they are not the XL set) - although I have used them on 35" they are very slighly too small. Nothing wrong with these strings but I've realised I prefer a narrower gauge and/or nickel strings. My preference gauge wise would be: 40, 60, 80, 100, 125 Looking for: La Bella Slappers La Bella Supersteps DR Fatbeams DR Sunbeams What have ya got?! ps. - will sell these for £30 all in, if anyone wants to buy them. That looks like about 8 or 9 quid cheaper than new.

Awesome stuff
