Keeping it EBS and rack mount, find an old EBS Classic rack mount preamp (one of these:https://reverb.com/uk/item/46037993-ebs-ebs-1-bass-preamp-classic) and feed it into the FX return of your 350, and use a pedal to switch between the head and the pre.

Subdecay Prometheus Resonant Filter in very good used condition, boxed with manual. Asking for £145 including fully insured tracked postage, anywhere in the UK. This is an interesting pedal, with some features that I, personally won't use, and the standard filtery sounds are covered by other filter pedals that I have, which marginally work better for my tastes. That said, in my filter shoot-out, it held up very well against my Proton v1, Groove Regulator & Robotalk2. It triggers easily and was easy to dial in the funk. Trade options: EHX POG2, Source Audio C4, Future Impact, 3Leaf Octabvre

Thanks. Now I do the search and it's being returned in the results. And it's now appearing in the "Content I started". Perhaps someone worked some magic in the back ground. I don't think I was doing anything stupid

So this: was the first ad I posted after paying my subs. If I search for it, it's not listed in my search results. Also I don't see it listed in my followed content, or content I created. Weird huh? All the subsequent ads I posted seem fine.

There's a SWR Grand Prix for sale at the Gallery at the moment. Tempting, but £500 is a bit steep for it?

I have the Empress and Cali76tx. I like the Empress, sounds great, but as mentioned above, it's a little more of a clinical compressor. i.e. it's not colouring the sound much if at all. The Cali76 does add more colour in a nice way, especially when running at 18v, which is when the TX kicks in. Special mention to the Durham Sex Drive, also sounds lovely to my ears. Can you tell i spent more that a few hours reading all the Ovnilab reviews a few years ago? 😂

Earthquaker Devices Grand Orbiter Phase Machine. A few scuffs/marks but in very good used condition. The graphics on the fron have faded slightly, see the pictures. Inc. box, manual and linen sack. I guess the early serial number would make this the original version of this pedal. £70 posted anywhere in the UK, or collection from central London/ Shepherds Bush.

Earthbound Audio Supercollider fuzz pedal. A "muff" based fuzz apparently... fnar. A few marks and scuffs, but in very good used condition. No box or manual. I have no idea on price as they seem quite rare, so I'll kick off with £125 posted anywhere in the UK, or collection from central London/ Shepherds Bush area. If the price is way off you can offer me more or less.

Epiphone EB3, in good tidy condition, no damage as far as I can see. Bought on a whim a few years ago now from Cash Converters on Albany Road in Cardiff, if you know where that is 34" scale, slim neck. Will come with a functional gig bag. I've enjoyed playing this at home, sounded v nice with Rotosound 77 flats on it, although it's strung with some old round wounds now that I repurposed from another bass. Probably could do with a new set of strings TBH. When I bought it, the only issue was the rear bridge mount inserts that were a interference fit into the body were being pulled out of the wood by the pull of the strings. I dropped some super glue in there which sorted that out, and no issues since. The bridge is still fully adjustable, as it screws into these inserts. Via https://www.guitarinsite.nl/serienummers-epiphone_eng.php the serial dates it as Any questions please ask. Not sure about the pricing, so if it's way out let me know. £200 - collection only central London/Shepherd's Bush. Will consider trades for effects pedals. Filters, octavers, preamps/cab sims/ para eq - no fuzz/od/distortion.

I had an earlier advert trying to sell this some years ago, so let's try again. Originally I said that it's "Nice sounding and I thought would be what I was after I.e. something not too gnarly sounding. Turns out I wanted something gnarly". As it turned out, I don't want gnarly at all Quoted from the Owen web site at the time: It comes with the original protective bag, and I also have an instruction sheet for it that Mr. Owen kindly sent to me. £95 posted anywhere in the UK or collection in central London/Shepherd's Bush Trades considered on this, but no fuzz/od/distortion type pedals. Filters, octavers & anything that brings the funk Will load some photos when I've figured that bit out. When I got the pedal I didn't have the manual, and I mailed this to Owen Electronics To which I got the following response from them:

I just bought a EBS Valve Drive DI from Andy, all exactly as described, and posted promptly after I made payment. Would be more than happy to deal with him again. Thanks!

I think the main reason to go for these non-traditional designs are aesthetic. IMO most would look incongruous on most basses, and from what I've seen they are usually on basses that have also been designed with similar aesthetics in mind. I think it's difficult to know if they would make any tonal difference, and to what extent, unless you tried them all out on the same bass, and would the difference be noticeable in any meaningful way to the average player. I imagine wood choice, construction and electronics would influence the sound to a far greater degree, especially on solid body instruments. I don't think the bridge designs of orchestral stringed instruments have changed much in centuries? They are fairly low tech by comparison, but clearly effective? Like most things, people will buy or form opinions (positive or snarky/mocking as seen on the other thread), based how how it looks.

They also have this one https://bassbros.co.uk/product/xotic-xj-1t-5/

On the very early basses, there were no toggles, but I believe it was possible to control via holes in the control cavity plate. Then they put the switches on the front instead. I think you're correct that the Pro models are the more affordable offering, but I don't know how exactly they differ.

I should have said in my earlier post, I did play a XJ5 many moons ago at the London Bass Guitar Show. The playability seemed really nice. A comfortable neck that was just right for me i.e. on the slim side. It sounded very good through the EA amp/cabs, although there was a general racket in the room that made it less that ideal. They've been on my gas list for a long time. I really like the original Xotic design too, but you don't see them around so much.

FWIW, Hiro Miura who founded Xotic is no longer involved and has since founded Miura guitars: https://www.miuraguitars.com/en/about I don't know if the change of ownership coincided with the headstock logo design change (likely?), but personally I prefer the older logo's design. Partly because its likely they were still built/assembled by Hiro, and partly because it looks better IMO. (However, I have no idea if there are any real differences between either era of products, not am i trying to imply there are.) So, used, I would say go for the basses with the old headstock logo. If I wanted to drop cash on a new Xotic, I would go for a Miura instead.

I played this bass at the Bass Centre when Jimmy worked there in the early 2000s. I remember him saying it was a special order he'd put in with Warwick, but they screwed it up and got some of the spec wrong, so it was for sale. I almost bought it myself, it sounded fantastic, but the ergonomics didn't quite work for me. GLWTS
