Don't despair quite yet, buzzing can be something simple. Open up the cab and have a good look, sometimes bits of the speaker work loose, check the drivers are screwed down tight and check inside that nothing is touching the speaker as it vibrates, leads sometimes work loose and buzz against the cone. Now examine the speaker cones themselves, a common fault is the dust cover dome in the middle becoming detached and less often the corrugated surround separating, both can be stuck back with copydex, even small tears can be repaired by laminating across them with tissue and copydex. Try pushing the offending speaker cone gently backwards with a large diameter glass or cup, if you hear scratching it is the coil rubbing against the magnet and the speaker is dead. Go to the manufacturer. Using an octaver could reduce the available power by a factor of 4, your 500W speaker could easily become a 125W speaker under certain circumstances due to the extra excursion you are calling for. It's unlikely the deep bass is actually what you want as we hear those frequencies so poorly but the octaver is thickening up the harmonics. If you need the octaver I'd strongly recommend a Thumpinator or similar subsonic filter to protect your speakers, unless you can afford/want to carry four times as many speakers or are happy to periodically replace blown units. 8x10 anyone.
/\ This /\ Many, many, years ago I used to work in a shop that repaired cabinets and reconed speakers. You are getting good advice here. Just be very careful when you handle the speaker cone. <><Peace

+1 I haven't heard that song in ages!

Do smaller cabinets really work as well as their large cousins?
dadofsix replied to BigAlonBass's topic in General Discussion
Whatever the size of cabinet you choose, given your medical circumstances, I would definitely invest in a very good "in-ear-monitor" system. -
I didn't see where you mentioned your age, but, if you're in your twenties or early thirties, you've got time to make a mistake or two and recover from it -- just don't needlessly burn bridges. It appears that you'll still be playing with your friends in the church setting and there's value in the stability. But, as a number of folks have mentioned, there's much to be learned from older players who still enjoy what they do and are confident enough in their ability (and your ability) to wing it at shows and make it work. Clearly these folks have been together for a long time. There's a foundation for growth here that I don't see in the other band. ON THE OTHER HAND, "wifey" doesn't like the hours you're keeping . . . ! Good luck!!! :-)

One of the great problems with being too critical of yourself is that it makes it too easy, sometimes, to be too critical of the musicians you are playing with at the moment. That doesn't speak well to enduring musical friendships, or bode well of band rehearsals being productive while also being enjoyable.
-
I've learned to do it solely because one of the drummers I play with (he's a friend) wouldn't know a 4/4 time or a 3/4 time or ANY type of "regular" beat if it came up to him and slapped him upside the head! lol It has certainly helped in my concentration, though. :-) <><Peace

Funny things that people say to you at gigs
dadofsix replied to Tom Brookes Music's topic in General Discussion
Good for him! Staying true to his mate and probably avoided himself a good case of "clap" or some other nasty little STD. -
My six babies are now all in their twenties. It happened in the blink of an eye -- you will understand in another thirty years or so. You need to develop one of the most important things that a father of young children MUST have -- discipline. You must learn to cherish the time with them but you must make ALL of the time you have to yourself count. Start small, and learn to build large victories out of tiny successes. Best of luck to you. <><Peace

Hahaha. My daughter's dating a drummer! A great guy. He lives . . with . . her . . in . . HER apartment!! Wait a minute!!! My child and I need to talk! Back in a flash! :-0

No.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's quite possible that he, or someone he knows, may have been badly burned in the past by trusting in someone as you are expecting him to do now. Just go with the flow -- BUT, make damn sure you meet in a VERY public place if a lot of cash will be changing hands. Let's not be stupid about it. <><Peace
No more 'thing'? Jeez, sorry Blue. I didn't know
Ouch! lol

Congrats! Hope this is just the beginning of great things for you and the band. <><Peace

My ex did it. She was happy when I was playing guitar and fronting. Not so much when I quit music and started a career My daughter, though, is now seriously involved with a drummer. I thought I raised her better than that! lol

I'm not sure it's not Geddy's voice. It's just eerie.
-
Man! Not at all what I expected. I just don't know how he hits those vocal notes while sitting down. As a former lead vocalist, I know how important it is to get a good "lungful of air" before hitting the high notes. Other drummers that sing do it. But he's just not doing it. The singer in me wants to doff my cap and say, "well done." The cynic in me, who has been singing for many, many, years, suspects that he is "singing" to a pre-recorded vocal track. If the cynic in me is wrong, then, in that event, the hat gets doffed to a resounding "well done!" <><Peace

Over 60 & Still In The Game, What's It Like For You
dadofsix replied to blue's topic in General Discussion
You haven't answered the question, sir! lol -
Santana's Black Magic Woman just wouldn't be the same! lol Of course, it would make my life a helluva lot easier 'cause, in my band, I'm the singer on it, too!
-
Definately the one I'm using now. Enough power and more than enough stage sound. I'm a happy camper. lol

STOLEN Genz Benz Shuttle 9.2 in GigSkinz bag
dadofsix replied to Twigman's topic in General Discussion
I hope you made a police report. If you did, hit up every pawn shop within ten to twenty miles of the location where your stuff was stolen. Show them a copy of the police report and copies of any sales receipts you may have. If the slime who stole it brings the stuff in to pawn, the shop will then be on notice that the goods are hot and will probably call the local law enforcement agency. Good luck!!! -
When I was with one of my first bands, we rented out a warehouse space in a business section for rehearsal. We could play as loudly as we wanted and nobody heard us because all the businesses there would have closed for the day. As you might guess, it quickly became a local hangout for fellow musicians and, of course, many of the local sweeties who wanted to be around the music and around the guys making it. Many hours of my life were spent playing with the different musicians who would happen by from night to night after the band had finished its rehearsal. Damn, do I detect just a wee bit of nostalgia in this post?? lol

Advice on how to get this tone? (Ikuo from Bull Zeichen 88)
dadofsix replied to zerofocus's topic in General Discussion
I watched the entire video. What I found most interesting was his comments near the end of the clip on how the thickness of his bass cables affected his sound. Gotta tell you, that's a new one on me. Does anyone else on this site share that view?? <><Peace
