karlplaysbass replied to karlplaysbass's topic in General Discussion
yeah i was looking for the simple ones to start of with as James Jamersons lines are often quite complex especially the stuff with Stevie and Marvin -
Both have their place in Bass Guitar history, and rightly so. Nothing more to be said on Jaco - All been said, and in depth. They both had a great input into Bass playing, and both very serious musicians. But they both put out some rubbish playing wise. I am a real Jaco fan, but towards the end, his playing wasn't on top of it. Same for Jack as well, on some of the YouTube clips his intonation and solos were not up to what you would expect from him. But then again, did I read that he had developed some hearing problem? Jack was also a trained Cellist as well as an upright player, and had decent Piano chops as well, along with a back ground in Jazz. So plenty to research and write about regarding his great early playing career.
jacks got quite the interesting life story to be honest
He's best known for Cream obviously, but don't forget Blues Incorporated, Graham Bond, John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, Manfred Mann, West, Bruce & Laing... he also worked with Kip Hanranan and Gary Moore among others.
im defiantly going to be writing about all the people hes worked with the only reason i say for cream for analysing is because ive got chord charts and info for the song im going indetail for
James Jamerson. But given the two options you mention, Jack Bruce every day of the week. Much more of an interesting character, had much more of an impact on the music scene of his time and produced far more listenable music. In my humble opinion.
yeah i have a feeling aswell creams music maybe abit easier to analyse than jacos
For me it's the opposite. If I"m enjoying the exercise it means I'm playing things I already know and doubt I'm gaining from it. If I'm not enjoying it, it means I'm challenged and if I stay with it there's an opportunity for improvement. Blue
cant agree with you more dude the second something becomes to easy i try to find a way to add more challenge to it or learn more
Decide what you need to work on, list those things in order of priority and what needs most work. Work out how much time you have to spare, then proportion an amount if time to each task. Keep a diary too.
i might try the keeping a diary as someone else said to do that cheer
