The Big Fat South-West Bass Bash 2022 - Sunday 9th October

It grieves me to share the following sad PM received from Norm's wife this morning: Hello Scrumpy Mike. This is Sue, Norms wife. I am devestated to say that Norm passed away suddenly yesterday morning. 25/02/23 He loved the bass bash event. Would you be able to let people know of my husbands passing. Thank you so much. xx I've already replied as follows and asked Sue to confirm whether - and how - she would wish to receive any other individual messages from us. Hello Sue, this is deeply saddening news for me, as I know it will be for all the other SW Bass Bash regulars. Over the years we have become a real family within the wider Basschat community and we shall all miss him terribly. I shall of course spread the sad news on Norm's and your behalf. In the meantime, please accept my sincere condolences. On behalf of the Bashers, I wish you and yours the strength you need at this sad time. Perhaps someone with the necessary skills could set up a virtual condolences card on here that we can sign. Any alternative/better suggestions also welcome. Thanks, Mike -

Good choice! The nice thing about these is the they've got 19 easily-accessible accessible frets, which also makes the body look better proportioned than the Mustang IMHO. I got the Burgundy Mist with tort, which was the only option in the Deluxe range at the time. Thomann now seem to be offering the full range of colours and, much as I love mine, I would probably have gone for the black/tort too. I'd love to hear how you get on with the new pot as it's on my to-do list. Are you fitting it yourself? -

Just had the pleasure of dealing with Don, who bought my BF SC3 cab. He's a truly exemplary member of our Basschat community, deal with confidence.

The Dunlop 5-string s-s flats set is listed at £114.99 on Strings Direct! I have no relevant experience but if I had a s-s 5er, I'd be tempted to buy a cheap 4-string set and try to source a single, heavy-gauge, high-tension E to use as the B. The cheapest 4-string set of s-s flats that I know of is the Hofner 040-095 Contemporary series at £26.99, also from Strings Direct. -

Aesthetically it's a bit Marmite-y but I didn't actually mind that. Just couldn't get on with the poor ergonomics, all down to fact that the bridge was so far from the bottom strap button. This added bulk/weight and shifted the fretboard further away from the player thereby negating two of the key s-s benefits. It also placed the bridge right underneath the fingers of the plucking hand. The pic shows the original body below the bass Andy made using all the other Rascal parts. I asked him to re-body it a-la Precision Lyte and I think it works really well. - as does the re-shaped original body Andy used for the black bass. IMHO these are the Rascals that Fender SHOULD have made rather than taking the quirky 'form over function' route. -

Just a heads-up on a very interesting - and highly desirable IMHO - s-s bass I've just posted FS. https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/473862-andy-rogers-short-scale-custom-build/#comment-4890445 -

Our Andyjr1515 built this to the same spec as my main gig bass (also built by Andy) as a backup. I've never had to use it in anger though as my other AR bass has been 100% reliable so I've decided to turn it into GAS vouchers 🙂. Compact, lightweight and a one-off in design terms, this bass is in top condition. Strap balance is perfect and the fast, slim neck makes it a sweet player. Functionally it's hugely versatile thanks to the 3 'lippy' pickups plus 7-way switching* that allows all pickups to be selected individually or in any combination. Each position gives you a distinctly different, totally useable voice, and I use all 7 on gig bas number 1 to suit various numbers in our covers band. Price includes a mint Gator shell case and a white-pearloid scratch-plate alternative to the ebony one fitted if you want to bling things up a bit. Strings are virtually unused La Bella flats. I'm happy to meet for mutually convenient handover within an hour's drive from Taunton or pack for shipment provided buyer arranges and pays for delivery. * Via 5-way slider switch and push/pull volume knob

Darn, my favourite colour too. Will need to sell something first, by which time it'll be long gone.
