Jumped on Thomann's website to check out their short-scale stock - just out of interest as I already have my 'ultimate' s-s Sandy. They're listing 19 basses but only have 2 in stock! In my experience over recent years, that's an all-time low and they're showing the popular base-model Lionel BB not expected in stock until next June!!

Love it! Re finish, funnily enough that's what caught my eye on your original wall-hanging pic. Your pick-up/control configuration is my absolute fave. It's just so versatile and and I don't get why there aren't more basses like it out there. That was what made me buy one of the otherwise ergonomically challenged Fender Rascal basses that I later had re-bodied by our AndyJr. -
That has to be worth seeing - and hearing.

I can identify with that 🙂. But we'll still miss you ☹️

Thanks for that Phil. I - and no doubt others - will have a think and post our thoughts on here. My initial one is to go for the 8" cab build as the video will make it useful beyond Bash day. Although I'm strangely intrigued by the PA option. For me, that's always been the 'elephant' on stage 😐

SHOOT-OUT OR CAB BUILD? Our friend Phil is asking whether we want another cab/amp-based shoot-out this year or a self-build session featuring the new 8" cab. He is also able to do a session on the 'dark art' of the PA system but feels that may just be a step too far away from bass stuff. What's the verdict?

That's a very nice couple of basses. Where did you get the Serek? -
You know me too well Rich☺️

That's a great choice! I was greatly angered by the Daily Telegraph obituary that popped up on my screen yesterday. It described JM's voice as thin and expressionless and his lyrics as badly crafted and banal. Obviously the writer hadn't listened to this moving track and doesn't even get the fact that blues music was born out of the mundane. Suffice to say that I've already forgotten the name of the guy who wrote the obit but I'll never forget the bluesman himself.

Just seeing news reports of John Mayall's death. Thankfully the music he made with the Bluesbreakers will never die. I've just enjoyed a good soak in it courtesy of YouTube. What a hero!

I've always been a Gibson (30"-ish) scale-length guy since I started playing in the '60s but I can imagine how enabling the sudden switch from standard to short scale must feel to you. Lots more choice nowadays too 😊. Maybe your next acquisition could be the more recent 3-pickup (Version ll) Acinonyx. I'll certainly be tempted as and when they start appearing over here - not sure why they haven't already. -

The HB 'Stangalike is massive value for money and IMHO pretty darn good even in standard spec. I bought first time round. -

All other things being equal, the shorter the scale, the shorter the distance your fingers have to stretch between frets and the shorter the distance your left hand has to reach to get down to the lower end of the fretboard. However, that 'reach' advantage* gets progressively cancelled out for body designs where the bridge is moved ever further away from the bottom edge of the body. *Of course, if you're a player with small hands and long arms, you may consider the shorter reach to be a disadvantage as it could make your playing position feel a bit cramped. -
Anybody know a dep drummer for our Silverback gig at the Quantock Brewery, Taunton this Saturday June 29th and possibly more? Great venue!! We play classic rock covers from the usual suspects. Set list available and possibility of a mid-week rehearsal. Call me on 07770 946135.

Glad we got that sorted out and hope your wife's treatment goes well - among other things, so we can see you again at this year's S-W Bass Bash. -

And here I am. Don't recall any dealings with Dumpystumps though... and don't know anything about a Tele bass. -
Can't resist posting this!

Maybe not. I'll bring whatever is of interest to anyone from the gear listed in my signature below. I think they're all keepers (famous last words!!) so should still be available come October.

Having just realised that we're two-thirds of the way through the S-W Bass Bash Year (October to October 😊), Mrs. Scrumpy and I decided to indulge in a bout of nostalgia by re-visiting last year's event. So glad we did, as it's reminded us what an awesome event our Bash is - and why we bother going to all the trouble every year. For those who haven't yet been (or have kinda forgotten, as even WE sometimes do), Rich's post-'23-event message sums it up as follows: "If there are a handful of things I've taken away from yesterday, it's these: 1. Oh god, the food. And oh GOD, that crumble. ❤ 2. What a lovely, lovely bunch of people you all are. It was like spending the day with people I've known all my life. I could almost get emotional about this. 3. Between us, we don't half have some nice gear. Oh my word yes. Playing @Buddster's lovely '76 Jazz through my own rig was a personal highlight, and possibly a big mistake... 🤤 4. A renewed deep sense of satisfaction with my own gear. Having drooled over everyone else's gear (especially @Kateplaysbass's immensely cool little green number), I was playing my Shuker and realised that I was really listening to it in a way that I don't normally, almost never have in fact, and I've fallen in love with it all over again. I'm a lucky so-&-so. I think we all are, actually. Thank you all again for a wonderful day. I only wish Norm and yorks could have been there with us." Couldn't have put it better myself! We're already looking forward to seeing you all again soon! PS: Stewie, how are you liking that 'love-child of a bass guitar and a white Cadillac' you acquired last year? Must confess I was a teeny bit jealous.

Glad to hear that you're still so happy with the Stingray! With that, the Starstream and the Jake, you've got one helluva bass collection. Just add a Sandy Cali ll TM Short and you've got my top 4 (although my Vox is the JJ version). -

If lightening the body by stripping the active stuff out has left you with a touch of neck dive, you can just fill the cavity with lead 😄

A bold move that, Quilly - well done 👏
