  1. OK guys, never mind all this idle gossip about gear - Mrs Scrumpy has asked me to post the important bit: Mrs Scrumpy’s kitchen is proud to present TBFS-W Bass Bash 2018 Menu Tea /coffee served all day with homemade oat biscuits & scones (just hang on to your mug for refills!) Dessert: Fruit Crumble & Cream Fresh Fruit Salad Banana Loaf Chocolate cake….. and anything else I can make on the day Enjoy!! As last year, there will also be home-made ratatouille to offer our vegetarian and vegan friends a bit more variety.
  2. Wow - that would be two grand well spent!
  3. Not surprised to hear that. Mind you, I suppose if you compared a home-build with an expensive equivalent and discovered you couldn't tell the difference, you'd feel that you'd made a pretty important discovery.
  4. I'd not seen this until stewblack flagged it up to me with a pm (thanks for that). All I can say is bring it on Phil!
  5. Yes indeed, I know Darcy well (with and without my Gillett hat on) and will definitely be inviting him along. As long as he doesn't raffle the demo Contour bass he has in the shop
  6. PS I had a long chat with Bernard yesterday when I handed over his Gillett Contour S, and you can buy with confidence from this guy - he's got a real eye for quality and only buys the best
  7. I love basses that are exotic and unique - and that's one of the nicest I've ever seen!! GLWTS
  8. This sad news brings back a special memory for me too. I had the unexpected pleasure of chatting to JR when me and my son unwittingly ran into a Kinks video shoot early one sunny Sunday morning in the Cambridgeshire flat-lands where we lived . (This was not long after I'd seen their live gig at the Corn Exchange in Cambridge, at which JR had played a blinder - as they all did.) The production crew wouldn't let us continue our journey along the country road they had 'commandeered' and invited us to have breakfast in the chuck wagon until they were done. We'd just demolished our full English when this powder-blue open-top Cadillac rolls up with the band in it. As soon as they piled out, Davies jr. was whisked away by the sycophantic production team leaving the others just hanging around looking lost. So I grabbed my chance and had a good chat with JR. Such a nice guy, sadly missed.
  9. Darn! I wanted that to be a surprise
  10. " In all my days of Basschat, Bassworld and what ever we had before, I have never yet been to a Bass Bash so have little idea of what to expect." Hi Sean and thanks for posting - just imagine a jeweller visiting Aladin's cave with a few mates
  11. If you think the mods are bad, wait til you see the rockers!
  12. Not at all - we love distinctive shapes
  13. Hey Aidan, as far as I know, the Eden core tone remained pretty constant until the new-generation Terra Nova product range came out - maybe other forum members could give their views. All I can say is that I really like it and I've ended up spending a fair bit of time and money to find something more powerful (but not much bigger) that sounds as good. It's obviously subjective, but the reliable test for me is how good an amp sounds with everything set flat, and the WTX264 certainly passes that test for me.
  14. Hi Aidan, and sorry for late reply. I'm in Taunton a few minutes drive from M5 J25.
  15. I've also got a Magellan 800. It's a fabulous amp but has a cleaner, less warm/vintage core tone compared with the Mesa (although this can largely be off-set with the Magellan tone-shaping). Generally, I've found that the Genzler works great thru my One10s and the Mesa is equally good thru my SC. They're both close enough to the ideal tone in my head to to satisfy me but I'd say the Subway / SC pairing just edges it for me. However, if I could only keep one amp to run both the One10s and the SC (not together), I think the excellent Magellan would have to be the one. Must have another try-out of my mate's TH500 with the BF cab's - maybe I can persuade him that he 'needs' an AG700 as well (and so it goes on ).
  16. chris_b: "I was planning to compare the 12's and 10's and keep the one I preferred, but it looks like I'm going to have to keep all of them. " I've pretty much come to the same conclusion. I may add a second SC if I can find a good used one, so I'll have 2 10s and 2 12s. How does the AG700 compare with the TH500 sound-wise?
  17. Thanks Charliebass - you're in! Good point re leads. I'll try and bring more and put a call out nearer the time for people to bring their own.
  18. I bet there'll be some interest in that. I've added your name to the provisional list - no worries if you can't make it.
  19. This refers to the 'bass karaoke' set-up I mentioned earlier. The idea is that people can evaluate the kit they're interested in over one of the pre-recorded backing tracks that me and my buddy gig with.
  20. Bump time for this cracking little amp.
  21. Thanks for that y5s - very helpful. Re gear demo's, my idea is that the people requesting a demo of specific equipment will be the ones playing the bass line of their chosen song. As for celeb's, I'd really discounted that on the grounds that it would be a distraction from the main aim of meeting bass buddies and evaluating gear. I do agree about getting our sponsors to give a short presentation though; that was planned last time but somehow got forgotten about on the day (I think partly because 2 of our 3 sponsors were fairly absorbed in discussing the business deal that they announced shortly afterwards).
  22. Greetings Steve - a bass-playing neighbour no less! I've added your name to the list so you'll have to come now . Let us know in due course what (if anything) you might be bringing.
