1.
It depends on what you want to hear.
You've hit the nail on the head there! I found my Gen 1 Midget T was a bit too transparent and light at the bottom end. From what I can gather, the latest Midget with the current 12" driver is still transparent but more substantial.
2. Very 'Spiders from Mars'!
3. Import duty might be the explanation for the high price: China>Japan>EU??
4.
If I was after a shorty 4, I'd go straight to the Ibanez Talman. I often wonder about a headless conversion on one of these, for a super-compact travel bass.
+1 - I had one and it was really nice. At the price, they're an absolute steal. Shame that, as Mr Ford once famously said: "You can have any colour you like as long as it's black." Didn't stop me as I quite like black basses - but the antique white shown on the Ibanez website looked really cool (Thomann had one in for a while).
5. Seems stupid expensive to me.
6.
He's moved his E down to the low B position
Sorry, missed that bit.
7.
As a temporary measure, try wrapping a strip of paper around the E string where it sits in the nut so it is nice and snug. if that improves it you know to get a new nut
The problem is more likely to be a slot that's over-tight than one that's over-sized.
8. Nice bass, nice story I've always fancied EB2s since I was (and they were!) young.
9. Just bought a very nice Ashdown RM500 Evo from Lozz, which by chance he was able to deliver foc on his way back up the M5 from a gig - this was obviously meant to be! Couldn't have found a better amp or seller - we even managed a good long chat over a cuppa.
10. The Chowny basses are excellent players, great value for money - and look gorgeous.
11. Must be time for another bump.
12. Hey subrob, that's a lovely bass - I really like Maru's blue and green burst finishes.
13. Found a new one at a really good price, had a play - and like it a lot. Just done a search on the forum and there was a report of a studio buying 3 and having to return all as faulty. Can any long-term users out there comment on their reliability before I pull the trigger on this one as my back-up amp? Changed topic title as this thread has changed from a 420 enquiry into a 500 love-in !!
14. The phrase "adding insult to injury" springs to mind. The 'insult' is to the intelligence of us bass-players; the 'injury' is to a once great brand-name.
15. Decided to withdraw this from sale - thru my new amp and speakers it's by far the best-sounding bass I own , so it has to be a keeper!
16. Trade for EBS Multicomp (latest SE version) with cash your way?
17.
Maybe, but the gen 3 12" driver seems a lot more 'open'.
+1 - I've also got a Super Compact Gen 3.
18. Sorry giamma, missed the "full range" requirement. I agree with bassace that the Super Midget should be better for you. I recently sold my first generation Midget T as I didn't really need the top end.
19. Your requirement is exactly the same as mine. After a lot of trial and error, I've ended up with a Genzler Magellan 800 and 3 Barefaced cab's (a Super Compact Gen 3 and a couple of One10s). The amp: compact class D with a nice, neutral core sound; 2 switchable channels (clean and driven that can be set at different volume levels); 2 shaping options (modern & vintage) controlled by a contour pot; delivers full power at 4ohms or 2.7ohms for 2 or 3 x 8ohm cabs; and is much more reasonably priced than the other American alternatives. The cab's: compact/light-weight; highly efficient; 10" drivers have a slightly warmer 'classic' sound than the 12". I've added a mini board with 2 foot-switches (one switches between the 2 basses I use and the other changes channels on the amp), a tuner and a volume pedal. It's taken me over 50 years to get here but I'm really chuffed with this set-up!
20. Sorry no DB experience but my electro-acoustic sounds lovely through my One10. These cabs really are excellent and I'm just waiting for my second one to arrive so I'll have a mini-stack. In fact, I'll probably add a 3rd one as I now have an amp that switches down to 2.7ohms.
21. Hey UKLooney, that looks really neat - what exactly is it?
22.
What's the small TC electronics stuff like, sound quality wise? The TonePrint function looks like a lot of fun .. but they're surprisingly cheap for a compact class D, even without with that extra functionality. I'm guessing there is a drawback somewhere - or are they just great value?
Had a BH550 which I liked a lot - the 2 Toneprints it came pre-loaded with (Spectracomp and octaver) were nice and on-board tuner handy. Recently sold it for £250 (mint) to part-fund a Magellan 800 and wish I could have kept it.
23.
Congratulations, looks fantastic. I have a Super Compact and it's absolutely superb. I'd love to hear a pair of them in action, must be outrageous!
+1 exactly!
24. I realised that these would not be the numbers you were expecting. I guess the most important thing is how a neck feels rather than what it measures and this one feels (and looks) just right on the Jack.
25. Are you looking for something in the same performance/price bracket as the Streamliner or something to get you out of trouble if the Streamliner failed? TC Electronic stuff is good - their RH450 would probably fit the first category and their BH550 (which I had for a while and liked) the second.
