1. Not sure what your budget is but these are totally unique and offer UB-type sounds in a compact package (31.5" scale IIRC)! Michael G was one of the sponsors of our South-West Bass Bash in May and there was a huge amount of interest in his stuff. Personally I'd go for the slim-bodied version. 2. CURRENTLY ON SALE SALE AT GEAR4MUSIC FOR £379 DELIVERED!!
3.
Cool looking bass. Blue
Sounded great too. Only downer was they weighed a ton - each! My shoulder's paying the price for that now.
4.
Did you a piece for Bassist magazine about them some time in the late 90s, maybe early 2000s? They had a regular item where readers wrote about their basses, and I'm sure I remember one from a chap who had a pair of these.
Certainly did! Spent a very pleasant day at the mag's offices with editor Gibson (honest!) Keddie and his Dep Roger Newell including lunch while the basses were in the studio being photographed after testing. That was a great mag while it lasted.
5. Wonder what this is worth now... sold it and another identical one around 12 years back after gigging them exclusively for a few years. They were a delight - only 550 LP Triumph basses ever made apparently. Can't help thinking they've squandered their valuable heritage!
6. I'm using a WTX264 paired with a BF One10 at home/'unplugged' gigs/small venues/as DI monitor and am well pleased. Just be aware that, when I got mine, the little Eden was selling new for only £199 delivered.
7. It's nice to get what you want - so I'm pleased for you! Just out of interest, what was the M-chick that didn't hit the spot and why? (You can pm me on that one if you prefer.)
8.
Personally, even after 50 years of playing, I've never had much luck "winging it" Blue
Froggy my friend (and apparently neighbour!), don't know how much prep you've done so far or what the 'status' of the gig is, so: do whatever additional learning/practice you can in the short time remaining; approach the gig in a positive state of mind; on the night, just 'feel the music' and keep the body language confident whatever happens; then after the event you'll know how lucky/unlucky you've been 'winging it'! If what you've done this time doesn't work, then you can do something different next time!
9. Just like to add my best wishes for your future happiness to all the others
10. It's happened to me. Try accessing it via 'My Profile / Topics'. If that doesn't work, pm a moderator and they'll be able to find and restore it (that's what they did with mine anyway).
11. A bass named Bob? Just had a typically enjoyable exchange of PMs with a forum member who's bought a nice Cazpar off the FS forum. As an aside in one of his posts, he asked: "As someone of Polish descent yourself, can you explain their love of the letter Z?" I couldn't, but my reply might make life a bit easier for anyone struggling with the pronunciation of 'Maruszczyk': As for the Polish love of 'Z', beats me - but here's a story. My Dad's first name was Zdzislaw (roughly 'Jeeswaf'). He came over to GB in 1942 and, after the war, duly got himself a job so he could stay here and marry my Mum. So, on his first morning at work, the foreman takes him on one side at the start of tea-break to ask his first name so he can formally introduce him to all his work mates. "Zdzislaw", says my Dad. There's a short pause, and the foreman calls the group to order: "I'd like to introduce you all to your new work-mate, Bob" (the only name they didn't already have). Which is why my middle name is Robert - same as my son's.
12.
"E'd lug 'is own gear to the gig on t' bus, nip back for everyone else's, including t' drummer, play a 14 hour set non stop, note perfect, load out on 'is own while everyone else went t' bar, and still 'ave time for us lot"
You were lucky - we ended up livin' in a cardboard Ricky box in't middle o't road!
13. While I agree with everything that's been said about owners changing string gauge, I'm sure that most top-end manufacturers put a fair amount of thought into their choice of OE string gauge/construction for a given design. I'd replace with the same gauge from the same maker unless I had a good reason for doing something different.
14. That's a couple of fine instruments you have there! Played a Stanley Clarke at the London Bass Centre many years back and was deeply impressed by everything except the balance and the price. Fast forward to the present and this is the closest I've managed to get: my modified Scott Whitley SWB-1. Much cheaper but perfect (for me) ergo's.
15.
Cheers Andy, it is a very nice bass, I always find it amazing how good budget basses are these days.....wish it had been so back in the days of yore when I first started!
+1
16.
+1 For your budget you could buy a couple of used amps off this forum, keep the best, sell the other, buy another - and repeat the cycle until you're satisfied!
PS As already pointed out, you may never be satisfied! For your info, my current 'keepers' (i.e. for the next month or two) are an old Trace Elliot SMC300 GP7 (relatively heavy/bulky) and a neat little TC Electronic BH550 - both bought used off this forum for £400 in total.
17.
Conan speaks a lot of sense here. Excellently summed up.
+1 For your budget you could buy a couple of used amps off this forum, keep the best, sell the other, buy another - and repeat the cycle until you're satisfied!
18. This is a bass I fell in love with the minute I saw Pete Quaife playing his with the Kinks. They just look so damn' cool and the fact that two of my heroes (Macca and Randy Meisner) used theirs to such good advantage is also a big factor for me. It's my favourite 'look' of all time and definitely the best bass I never owned. Too late now as s-s is the only thing that works for me nowadays!! GET ONE WHILE YOU CAN! PS I also luuuurve Marmite
19.
Thanks Chris. I am clearly a technophobe! Shame there's not a pic of rear with tasty neck thru body.
Your custom Omega is an absolute beauty!
20.
In my own experience I've found Fender glossy necks generally OK and Gibson generally sh*te.
+1 Worst was an otherwise fabulous gloss-black SG Reissue I bought new in 2008. I don't have sweaty hands but this neck was a real problem - and the official Gibson blurb relating to the bass claimed that the nitrocellulose finish they used was something extra special. Extra-specially unfit for purpose maybe?!
21. Bad luck Steve. I've got issues with loss of feeling in my hands and s-s bass guitar is all I play nowadays.
22. ... and that seems to apply to the wider bass-playing community too. Most touching example was when I did a 'My Bass Is' article for Bassist magazine a few years back. It was actually about the 2 Les Paul Triumph basses I was gigging at the time and featured the fact that one of them was missing its bridge cover. A few weeks after the mag appeared, the editor forwarded a mint cover that a bass player in New Zealand had sent foc in response to the article! How good is that?!
