1.
I've been a G&L man for nearly 20 years, and I think they are fantastic basses that represent great value for £1k-£1.5k (that said, I've only ever played Fender or G&L so I don't exactly have a lot to compare with).
Please play some other basses.
2. Diago stuff is top notch.
3.
Maybe give the ehx glove a try. Can do raspy pretty well
+1. Fulltone OCD clone for 1/3rd the price.
4.
Also totally agree with the comments on the MXR di, load of tosh and not cheap to find that out either
I wouldn't use the M80 has an overdrive but it is definitely not 'tosh'. The clean section is great.
5. Isn't that heavier than the cab?
6. Toneriders do indeed go in the Squier CV series, not sure about the VM series.
7.
Odd thing to say given no one on this thread seems upset to me.
Last time BF cabs were criticised, Alex got super defensive and came out with a load of technical clap trap saying they are the best cabs on the market today. He then stopped posting has he was doing more harm than good in regards to company image. Put me off BF cabs that's for sure.
8.
i would go for an Encore.
http://basschat.co.uk/topic/49147-4-grandwhat-bass/
9. Thanks for that.
10. A / B'd side by side. Maybe 'pisses' was a little harsh. Don't see Jimmy Berg getting upset when someone doesn't like his cabs.
11.
You could also get a Fearless built professionally. I've replaced a very well enginieered 212 with a F112 and it is doing the job very well. A Fearless F115 might be all you need.
Massive +1. Pisses over BF and Bergs.
12. I have tried them back to back in the same gauge. Same string.
13.
Very growly tone compared to other flats. They have great longitivity and intonation. The now-discontinued "CL" set (45-60-80-105) was my favourite flat set ever after 40 years of playing. Now you can only get the "L" set (45-60-80-100), but Fender does not sell singles, so I can't get a 105, so I went to tapewounds instead to get the feel I wanted.
Why don't you buy Chromes singles - they're the same string.
14. Well he's a rapper... oh wait.
15.
revolver would have been perfect if they'd left off Yellow Submarine and Eleanor Rigby
That and For No One are the best songs on the album!
16. Revolver is the album IMO. Sgt. Peppers is a little hit and miss for me. Though Lucy in the Sky is the best Beatles song they ever did, well Lennon's best for sure.
17. Typical lets suck the life out of bands and take all their money. Bollocks to it all.
18. Strictly speaking, today's (standard) MIM Fenders are most similar to vintage Fenders, only difference being the wood is newer. How many vintage Fenders have graphite rods, lightweight tuners, high mass bridges, big output pups etc.
19. Only upload good quality, commercial tracks. Find the name of the person who listens to the uploads. Make a big deal of the song/s and ask to be the featured artist for that month. Only upload one track per month. Make sure you mention a next gig date.
20. Bought from a shop, online unseen - says it all!
21.
Make a trip to Bass Direct and BassGear and try a load of basses out - just because an instrument has a high price doesn't necessarily mean it will work for you. Even if a Fodera/Ritter/whatever has been built out of the best materials available, with attention paid to every tiny detail and exquisite workmanship, it doesn't automatically follow that you will find it inspiring to play or producing the sound you want.
+1. I own FrankenFenders that cost £1000+ less than most the basses in those shops and the quality is just as good and the sound is usually better. Overpriced tat.
22. Ditto to you sir.
23. Watching a festival on TV is not the same as going to one.
24. Pretty sure rock n roll is still alive after watching those 1000 people sing Learn to Fly.
