1. Have you ever come across a bad playing/bad sounding pre CBS Fender? Doesn't exist apparently. Pre MM Stingray that is crap? Doesn't exist apparently. '59 Les Paul that is nothing short of the best LP ever? Doesn't exist apparently. You see what I'm getting at. Hype. The internet. Mainly the second one. Ignore everything except your hands and ears. I have an early edition Sue Ryder P copy and I'm sure it beats any pre CBS Precision I've ever heard. Repeat that a few times and people start to believe BS like that. True story.
2. I'd buy a Stingray personally. Plenty of pup options.
3. If only it was a 5 string!
4. Turn up the gain on the ampeg and boost the mids a touch? No need for pedals.
5. 150w through a 1x10?! 1. Get a LMII or III with 500w output. 2. Get a 2x12 or 4x10. Accept the fact that if you want to move air you need a lot of watts and a big cab. I've played through Bergs, BFM, Barefaced, Green Boy cabs and a single 1x10 or 1x12 just doesn't cut it. Unless you have monitors for every gig. Which you probably won't.
6. Disturbed are terrible! There are a million better metal bands out there... Deftones, System, Mastodon etc.
7. TBH I don't think Chris gives a s*** about some mid life crisis geezers on BC who think he can't cover all the styles. Go back to drinking your Ovaltine, you tear stained losers.
8. Yeah but Muse did start 20 years ago... Bliss was mega last night.
9. Punk rock still alive and well? [/Talkbass thread]
10. I thought over excited was when you skip dinner, head to practice and neck a can of Carling. You feel it then, that's for sure.
11. Make a leaving thread, invent a sob story, lurk for three months and start posting again like normal then.
12. Do you mean Cobalt flats? The normal EB flats are just repackaged Chromes.
13. Who here headlines gigs to 5,000 people? *tumbleweed*
14. First three songs on this are possibly the best three thrash songs ever. Gauntlet laid out!
15. Thumbs up for the OP - "Hey kids, wanna see a dead body?!".
16. I am crying. First with laughter then with fury at the 'farce.
17. Try Dunlop Super Brights. Very similar to Flexsteels but way smoother.
18. Our gimmick was the fact we WERE a public liability.
19. The new Chinese Democracy?
20. Neck pup up full, bridge pup rolled back a quarter. Tone between 1/3 rolled off and halfway (depending on string brightness). Pickup magnets adjusted in correspondence with action height, preferably medium-ish. Install big output strings - Lo Riders, Boomers at least 45-100, ideally 45-105. Bass at noon on amp, treble at 1 o clock. Boost the mids to 1/1.30 if you can at 800Hz. Also, attack the strings harder. Job done.
21. What you won't do for free, some other band will. Who here in an originals band can live off their gig money rather than job money?
22.
Rock n Roll sounded a bit weird (at the end). All a bit too low, so I picked up my guitar and they had detuned a whole step and a half
You think Plant can still sing that high?!
23.
Interesting. I loved the Dunlop SBs but I think I would prefer a little extra tension so I can dig in on the lower strings. The Foderas will no doubt be pricey, similar to DRs? I didn't even know Fodera made strings.
Hi Beams or Fat Beams sound up your street. Sunbeams I think won't have enough brightness for what you're looking for.
