I have a bit of a try out with a newish band in a months time. I know the guitar player and the singer (the three of us are in another band)but not the drummer. The guitar player knows the drummer and thinks the drummer and I will play together well. He’s asked for song suggestions that we could learn that would be a good test for bass and drum co-operation. We’re looking more at pop than rock and it’s not really an area I’ve got a lot of experience in! We have one so far which is probably typical of the kind of thing we’re taking about and that’s Rio by Duran Duran. Can anyone suggest any others? by the way I’m rubbish at slap! cheers

I really dislike colour matched headstocks and my highly customised Ray34 has one (black). How feasible is it to strip the paint and refinish clear with a new set of decals ? I’m pretty good with sandpaper but wonder how deep into the grain the black paint might go?

My rumble 115 cab has been up for sale for a while at a bargain price so it looks like I’ll need to add a shipping option if I want to get it gone. Any recommendations how to do this? I’d like to be able to drop it off somewhere rather than have it collected as I’m out at work all week. cheers.

Do you want both signals going to the same pre amp or to different pre amps?

What do you want your bass amp to do ? for me the answer would be lightweight head with headphone output and stereo aux in for practice at home, onboard compression, versatile tone and enough power driving my 210 cab for loud band rehearsals and small gigs.

How did you get on with the pf800?

Maybe your bass is overloading the pre-amp. I’d try it at a low volume setting on the amp and turn the volume pot on the bass down until the distortion goes then turn the amp volume back up and see if it stays clean.

Fretless is just fun! It doesn’t have to be for training reasons but enjoying the fun will improve your ear - it has mine. I started off by fitting a fretless neck to my MIM P. I then bought a loaded jazz body and fitted it to that. I’ve since decided to go unlined and bought another unlined neck. It didn’t take any adjustment from lined to unlined as I was looking at the side dots more than the lines.

Just wondering what apps or software others use for working out bass parts for covers. I hate to use YouTube tutorials unless I really need to as I don’t think it helps me develop and practice theory. When I first started playing it was pausing and rewinding cassettes over and over to work stuff out. Now I use Anytune Pro on my iPad to repeat sections, slow them down without altering pitch and also tweak the tuning of recordings that have been mastered fast or slow or recorded out of standard tuning. what tools do you use?

Put a set of chromes on my Ray 34 with hybrid pickups a couple of days ago. I’ve always liked this bass but the tone I was expecting has always eluded me (hence multiple mods including fitting the Delano hybrid pickups). With the chromes it’s finally getting there. A flat eq sounds like a flat eq and eq adjustment now makes sense and does what I expect it to. Not tried it with the band yet but looking forward to doing so.

I really like Rick Beatos videos. They’re fun, interesting, informative and he’s not constantly trying to sell you something or promoting his own content all the time. The WMTSG on Rocketman was my favourite.

By the way I never had any volume issues with just the one. I’ve used it in 3 and 5 piece rock bands, two with loud drummers and never really pushed it. It was always mic’d at gigs as the DI on my head was noisy. I wonder how loud some bands rehearse when people talk of needing two cabs to be heard!

GL or GR?

I’m in Cornwall. It’s certainly a robust enough cab. Not had any issues with mine, no rattles or anything. Been slung in and out of vans, cars etc regularly without issue. Slight shrinking of the tolex on the back but it’s only minimal. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it for a 115 cab at all. I never fitted the casters to mine - they’re not needed at all (lost them now).
