The Beatles music WILL be heard in 1,000 years!
Nicko replied to SteveK's topic in General Discussion
Thankfully I'll be long gone and won't have to listen to it. -
I'd also have to upgrade my PC to get a Cubase upgrade. To be honest when I do that I'm likely to give Reaper a try. As for the comping function - I normally record it on a loop and keep the best bits of each take so its no major hastle at the mo.

Pub Bands playing their own Material...Mission Creep?
Nicko replied to skidder652003's topic in General Discussion
I think the answer depends on what the covers band is playing to begin with and what the originals are. If you are playing the standard 80s/90s rock covers as all the other bands and you stick in a funky original then probably not, but if you've chosen to put in lesser known album tracks by well known artists and the originals are the same genre then why not. Probably safer is to do an original cover - taking a well known song and changing genre. I always fancied doing "I kissed a girl" as a heavy rock number, but couldn't get some of the band to agree. -
Thanks. I use Cubase but the cheap versions didn't come with VariAudio. I might have a look at some free ones and see if polishing the turd is actually worth spending money on before looking at Wavestune.

I also spend a lot of time doing retakes of my vocals - not that you'd notice - and many of my verses are a take for each line or phrase. I know it's a confidence/practice thing because sometimes I get something spot on, only to stumble over the lyrics or something. At one point I considered joining a local rock choir to boost my confidence and literally "find my voice". I went along to one session which was OK but when I saw the list of songs I decided that I just couldn't do it -too much mid 80s soft rock and worship stuff for me but I;m still convinced thats the kinda thing I need - as well as maybe a bit of help from an the vst.

Do I Have To Become a Christian to Get A Gig

He's Eminems stalker, if I understood the song correctly. -
Badges! We don't need no stinking badges!

I honestly thought the end of that story was going to be that you ran over the wretched beast as you left the stables. -
I had noticed that vocals have been distinctly lacking from your entries 😀 The modus operandi appears to be to put on a silly voice when attempting to sing outside ones comfort zone - I was wondering if autotune would provide a bit more confidence. edit: I lack confidence even though when singing in the correct range I can hold a tune. Mrs Nicko was, for example, completely unaware that I was singing lead vox in the chorus of Dakota when she came to a gig.

Just to add my tuppence to teh discussion: Badges, meh. The system looks similar to Tripadvisor where apparently I'm a top contributor and level 37 Restaurant expert. I've often wondered what the point of it is unless swanky restaurants start offering me freebies. However, when reading reviews on that site I generally ignore any reviews where the reviewer has almost no reviews as I'm suspicious that they either work for the place being reviewed or at a competitor business. That doesn't really apply here though. -
A quick listen to my (and dare I say some other) entries to the basschat recording challenge will leave you with a distinct impression that the vocals are very dodgy. So the question is should us less able vocalists use the tech that's there to at least get us in tune. If so what's the recommended vst - preferably a freebie?

That's not the kind of rusty sheriffs badge I meant, unless you got shot in the derriere. -

I was under the impression that everyone has a rusty sheriffs badge. -

I'm wondering if there's a badge for that which is hard to unlock. -
Another delightfully eclectic bunch of banging toonage. I wish I'd thought of that for my track title @lurksalot.

Aria twin drive15 watt combo with 8" speaker featuring two switchable cascaded gain stages plus colour, 3 band parametric eq and reverb. Lots of good useable sounds. Switching of teh gain is by a button on the panel - theres no footswitch. Its probably 30 years old but still in full working order. Looks OK too - at least nothing a duster wouldn't cure. Would suit beginner or someone looking for alow power practice amp for the bedroom Free to collect - its worth nothing so no point in paying shipping. North West London.

Line 6 modelling combo. 8" speaker, headphone jack and mp3 input for that all essential jam along. The line 6 "difference" is 4 amp models: Clean/R&B/Rock/Grind and built in FX: envelope filter, chorus, octaver and compression. All in working order but looks a bit shabby especially where the original sales label was removed and the adhesive is still on the grille. Would suit a beginner or someone looking for a small practice amp for the bedroom. Free to collect - it would probably cost more to ship than it's worth. North West London

My thoughts exactly. Every month I seem to get down something better than the last entry, only to be outshone by the competition who have also upped their game. Except the singing of course!

The most hilariously bad song I have heard
Nicko replied to shoulderpet's topic in General Discussion
OMG that is truly terrible. I have managed to live into my mid 50s in ignorance of this band and now they will forever be in my head. On the plus side "music" like this at least allows me to think that my monthly entry to the Basschat composition challenge has some merit. -
While this may not be noteworthy for some I have changed the strings on my bass today. I saw the bass hanging up yesterday and the strings looked a bit grubby. I changed the strings when I bought it but as far as I can work out I haven't changed them since. The last time I ordered strings was in October 2017 so I'm guessing that's when I changed them. The strings did weekly practice for a couple of years plus a few gigs.

Yes, the best way to enjoy a marmite sandwich is without the bread, straight off a spoon.
-
This is also foodstuff but even as a marmite lover its not only odd it's horrible
-
Because Afghans tend to stink quite a lot and the smell of patchoulli was marginally preferable to the smell of dead sheep or goat.
-
This. Asking whether the bass should dominate is no more peculiar than asking whether the lead guitarist should turn down. The relative loudness of the bass and it's tone has to be viewed in the context of the whole song.
-
That may be the most relevant answer on this thread as to whether I should keep the gear so far.😒

Not planning on selling it all but I have a bass that hasn't been out of it's case for nearly 2 years and the amp/cabs will only get used if I gig. I'll be keeping at least one bass, plus several guitars. For some reason I have an emotional attachment to the guitars that I simply don't have with basses.
