Correct. That is presumably why the vocalist never exerted herself setting up the PA in case the vocal chords suffered,
-
I used to DI through the PA sometimes, but since I was the one lumbered with the PA and the laptop with the PA settings I didn't feel as if I was taking the easy route. The PA had 8 channels so why not use them?
-
I'm not quite sure why, if the amp/speaker isn't providing any additional sound texture, you wouldn't just dispense with it completely and go through the PA via an even cheaper DI box.
-
Congrats Andy. No shame coming a distant second to that.

Is a new mass-produced bass ever worth more than £1500
Nicko replied to Beedster's topic in General Discussion
Throughout my career I've been involved in buying stuff from all over the world (not musical related). IME made in the USA is absolutely no indication of higher quality. Fender does not offer similar specs for the US and non US production and components so its impossible to compare like for like and I suspect this is deliberate to ensure they can charge a premium for what is essentially non premium product. -

Anything is worth what people will pay for it. Having said that I struggle to see how a P bass is good value at the prices they charge. I don't think it takes many hours to assemble one and the components are pretty simple when you actually look at them. I can't think of any other item where such basic construction and components commands a similar price. -
Fender (or any manufacturer) alternative model naming

The Stingray aka What Leo did next The Stingray Sterling. Won for the cheapskates. The Stingray Sterling SUB. Beef in Oyster Sauce - Always less satisfying than you thought it would be. -
When I was in a covers band the songs I most disliked playing were Are you Gonna Go My Way by Lenny Kravitz Rocks by Primal Scream I disagree with @chris_b. There's so many songs that do the job there is absolutely no reason to play stuff that any member of the band dislikes. IME disliking a song results in a less than enthusiastic performance of it.

The word eclectic springs to mind. Gonna have to have a think about where the votes are going.

OK, Here is my entry. I went through several genres but ended up going back to my initial idea which was to do something befitting a Tarantino sound track because the photo reminded me of his films. Not sure if I got there - its somewhere between the Shadows and a Spaghetti Western but that's the right ballpark. Recorded in Cubase 7 Elements. A Fender Telecaster was used for all guitars because I don't have a Jazzmaster (a Trem would have been handy though) and the guitars are through Amplitube using Fender Amp simulations with loads of reverb. The lead guitar also has a bit of tape echo. Bass is my usual Squier 70s CV through a Amplitude Ameg SVX 15 simulator. Drums are MT Power Drums.

I don't often play bass live these days, but when I did I was normally playing at 90% of my capability. At home I would try to play at 110%.

Thanks. I'll check when the computer comes back, but as this was installed by the laptop provider I suspect they already have this set.

I got a new laptop for use with my DAW. Its more than powerful enough but Cubase keeps crashing when doing routine stuff like editing notes in the piano roll. The program bumps me out and I get a blue screen message stating that the PC has encountered a problem. The laptop has been back to the supplier who couldn't get the same problem but reinstalled all the software after speaking with Steinberg. Its now gone back again but I have little confidence that the issue is likely to be sorted. Anyone else having a similar problem?

I'm still struggling to decide what direction to go in. I started thinking a surf guitar thing befitting a Tarantino soundtrack would be a good idea, but that's been ditched in favour of some heavy metal, which has also gone.

The realisation that I was deluded often comes a few minutes after posting it in the voting thread.

Rick Rubin calls Paul McCartney the number one bassist of all time

I generally prefer not to use mine to break off lumps of ice. -
In my last couple of bands everyone suggested songs and as a group we decided whether to play it or not. A simple "no" from a band member on the basis that they don't like, or are unable to play, the song would indicate that the song is never going to be as good as it could be because not everyone is interested in playing it. Most of the time people would agree to play things they didn't really want to play and reserve the veto for things they hated or felt were too far off topic. For a new band sitting around a table and making a list of potential songs is best - and once they are in the bag it's ad hoc suggestions which doesn't always work. Some examples: At a rehearsal one week another band was attempting "Dreaming of You" by the Coral. Someone said we should try that and within a few weeks it was got added to the list, The guitarist ended up hating it and never understood why it made it onto the set list. Gigged it a few times and then it got dropped because no one really wanted it. Same guitarist one suggested "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" by Elton John. In an indie covers set - WTAF? I ended up refusing to play "Are You Gonna Go My Way" after a few years - I simply hated playing it. I hated playing it even more than playing "Rocks" by Primal Scream which the drummer hated playing as well. That never got dumped because there has to be some give and take but I used to miss changes in it all the time because I never practiced it, and never wanted to listen to it and spent most of my effort trying not to yawn while playing it.

Mine may be the shortest list here. Basses Since 2007 Avon (Before 07) Peavey Fender Squier CV* Thats it. Guitars Since 1983 Bitsa Kay Hohner Tanglewood Partick Eggle * Fender * Simon & Patrick * Epiphone * * these are the ones I still have. I guess I'm not a GAS type of guy.

I'm fairly sure there are some people who think Adam Clayton is the best bass player ever. -

I've never been a fan of traditional HDs - and fail to understand the attraction of riding around on a bike with a huge engine making a huge amount of noise and so very little power. It's not even as if they are particularly comfortable either. My Fat Boy owning mate says there is no substitute for the torque but I'm not sure that's really what I want with so little rubber connecting me to the road. Harley has now evolved and caught up with the tech other manufacturers were using in the 70s. As for Riks - I like the sound but AFAIK I've only ever played one briefly and it felt horrible. The age old tech doesn't bother me - I play a P. The difference here is that the old tech of a P or Rik does almost everything that non active modern basses do.

I'm not one for laying on a beach so here is the island nightlife (or Cheshire nightclub) soundtrack instead. Recorded on my brand new laptop loaded with Cubase Elements 12. Cubase came with Halion SE so I'm basically a kid with a new toy and I've used that exclusively for all the parts except the drums - just to see what I can do with it. I didn't so much as write the song as it evolving by itself from the bass line which I had in my head.
-
My only bass these days is a Squier 70s CV. I wish it wasn't black, and need to sort out a rattly machine head but it does everything I need. I'd say 90% happy.

IIRC you can use Amplitube as a standalone software processor without the need to faff around with a DAW which is only needed if you want to record or add drums. So a Scarlett Solo and free Amplitube is all you need.
