1. neo drivers tend to have a more prominent midrage, and the magnets themselves are more susceptible to heat. that's not to say they run any hotter, what it means however is that they generally need heat sinks, as they de-magnetize at temperatures that other forms of magnets do not.

neither should be an issue with properly designed drivers/enclosures.

  2. yea, i use it all the time...whenever someone else uses/plays my bass, when i get it back i spend about 10 minutes "getting it right again".

of course, i know what the settings are and can sort it in about 2 sec, if i'm even bothered at all, but it stops people using by bass :)

oh, and yea, i use it for its real purpose as well, which is rolling off the treble haha.

  3.
Spaking as a professional electronics engineer, and amateur bass player and music lover:

Not being funny, but if directional cables make any difference to the sound of a system then the laws of physics don't apply to audio electronics...
finally, someone talking sense! :)

  4.
Cheers stevie, I'm not going to take it out, I'm pretty certain it's vibration.....from the speaker grill maybe, it's so much like a thin distortion it's quite odd! I'll make sure it's all screwed down again.
i had something similar to that on one of my cabs, bit of fiddling with the grill and the screws sorted it out. hope you have the same luck :)

  5.
Yeh - but they depreciate like a rock. An old TRB for a couple of hundred quid starts to look like a good deal.
someone on here is selling an rbx765 for only 150ish....beautiful bass, absolute steal! too bad i bought my yamaha new - it's worth about a fiver :)
Overpriced, silly snake oil claims, dubious business practices, and the oversized 1/4" plugs have a horrible habit of breaking jack sockets.

my personal favorite was when they released two instrument cables, one for "jazz" and one for "rock". All else aside, a good cable should be competely transparent...

...but i suppose i should stop now, before they SUE me for something, like they have everyone else...

  6. yea, shouldn't be a problem. if you want to leave it that way, then bypass the crossover, if there is one. also, if you take the horn driver out of the cab entirely, be sure to find a way to seal the hole.

have you tried taking the horn out, and testing just the horn separately to see if it still has these distortion problems? usually when they, or any driver, goes, it will just entirely stop working altogether.

it could be possible that you have a loose baffle or seal in the cab near where the tweeter is, which at high volumes would produce a distorted sound.

  7.
I have done and it sounds very good, but I find general users examples of pedals paticularly with showing with and without the effect on to be much much more helpful and more accurate in showing what realistic tone I can expect.
i know the audio is generally s**t, but have you tried youtube? sometimes, there are surprisingly good examples of pedals on there, and the ODB-3 is a pretty common pedal.

  8.
Eh?!

Can someone just let me know, which side of me is the gu!t*r!st on in that pic? I put one up pic then changed it, but I keep seeing the first one in the thread. I think it's probably just in my 'pooter's memory or something so hopefully you're all seeing the one I wanted you to.
you're on the left of the photo, with your hair covering your face.

also, clear your internet cache, that should sort it.

  9.
Errr... I think someone did slag off hand-wound pups a few pages back (can't be arsed to look back and tell you who though).
hahaha it was me, trying to give reasons why they should be in hopes someone else would rant about it. i have to admit, i'm getting a perverse kick out of having my equipment verbally trashed in this thread.

    is that too weird?

  10.
Lay off the pointy basses b*tches...
our guitarist has a dean ml metalman....it won't fit in any gigbag known to man, due to the fact it's about 17 miles long (thanks, pointy body/headstock), you can't (easily) sit down and play it, the fretboard is wide enough to park a mini on, and the body cuts in and disappears right where i rest my arm/hand :)

having said that though it sounds alright and has a really high output for a passive bass...and pairs well with his razorback V 255...
Bad ass bridges: Look crap, can in no way justify the price tag IMO.

Duncan Pups. Dunno why. Just never liked em.
two for one!....if someone can just slag off graphite nuts and hand-wound pups now, that will be everything i own, trashed in this thread

    i don't know why i'm enjoying that...

  11. i'm surprised no one has mentioned so-called "hand wound" pickups. i mean, i really can't see how they would sound any different being would by hand or machine, if anything the automated winding should be more consistent....yet the hand wound ones sure seem to have a price premium.....

Also, that would then be pretty much ALL of my equipment successfully slagged off, some of it even by me (oops....) :)

  12. those violin basses.

    i just don't get it.

saw one a few days back going for stupid money in a local shop....the body was ugly, the headstock was literally the ugliest one i've ever seen, the string spacing was about 10mm and was the same at the nut as the bridge....and all that for only a small fortune!

EDIT: and one more thing -- those vintage basses/guitars. while there is something to be said for the process that happens to the wood as a result of it being played, that can be done in about 5 years of regular playing -- and i don't seen anyone going crazy for early 2000's basses! newer instruments have better features, electronics, etc, etc, etc.....[/rant]
