ok, another few days and i'll try and give it away somewhere else. probably freecycle.
-
ebay is probably the cheapest option, to be honest. allparts would have it, but i had a bad experience with them in quality control, followed immediately after by a bad experience with their customer service. you'll probably be fine. watford valves have what you need, they sell pots for amps but it's the same thing - and the alpha mini pots are only a pound. too bad about the four pounds (!!!!!!) postage. i've only bought guitar parts from the US, so i'm a bit rubbish at recommendations....someone else could probably recommend something. don't order a new one until you've tested this one though, just in case it's something else.
I had a red one which is now with another B'chatter: it's a really nice bass to play, well balanced and some good tones for a passive. Don't buy new, the guy selling one on here was selling the more expensive one with a longer top horn for around £600 I recall, don't know if he ever got rid of it? The body is detachable and the knobs are concealed.....
is it not the same neck assembly, just with a different body on it? i can't believe that other one ended up selling for only 450! still, this is the one that i really like, i looked at as many of them as i could find online. as i'm sure you're aware, once you fall in love it's got to be that one

i don't know, it depends where/if there is a break. measure the resistance across pins 1 to 3 (the outside ones). it should be 250K. if it does mean a new tone pot, it's probably easier to just order one from the UK instead of sending it back, but that's up to you.

you've got, literally, the identical setup on your tone pot to me. everything looks to be wired up correctly, and the solder joints look good. are the numbers on the pot "EP085 250K"? I've never seen a pot where the pcb bent like that though, that doesn't look quite right...and if the little amount that sticks out is bent, and it's somehow broken the carbon track inside, then that would certainly account for the "0 or 1" phenomenon. do you have a multimeter?
This will do for a start
does anyone know if you can actually buy the bass horns at all? i know they're now in ashdown's "legacy products", but i never see them on ebay so i assume that means: -you can't buy them -hardly anyone bought them -they're so f**kin' good no one sells them i want a wall of 8

where can you buy replacement horns from
escholl replied to igloobuilding's topic in Repairs and Technical
it may just be a loose connection. drivers/horns themselves don't tend to sort of "half-die"...it's generally all or nothing (i.e. they'll work, or they wont). take a look inside the cab, there's probably just a dry joint (loose solder connection) somewhere. -
that sounds like a synth... EDIT: I mean synth as in a keyboard, not a synth bass effect
that was my first thought too. you could maybe recreate it with a synth pedal, but i never use them so i don't know for sure, or even one to recommend.
...cause 3 gain pedals is a bit over the top...
pfff lets not be silly...3 is the minimum!

yea it's pretty simple to do, even easier than a volume pot as there's only two connections....my guess is it should be a simple fix

Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band - He Has Left Us Alone But Shafts Of Light Sometimes Grace The Corner Of Our Rooms long band/album names win?

no, it was mostly to make sure that it was wired up correctly....sometimes if you spend too long staring at something, you can miss something obvious, and it helps to have someone else look at it. if it's a log pot, it's possible that maybe you've just connected it up backwards. you shouldn't have any problems, i've got the same 250K/Sprague combo on my tone pot and it sounds great (incidentally, ordered from the US as well)

that will pair well with this then:

can you get a pic up of it wired in? is it linear or logarithmic?
Problem solved - as I thought, the reason it was blowing fuses was because I was fitting it with the wrong fuses - the quick blow or F fuses. I put a T (Time delay) fuse in, as I should have done in the first instance and it's working fine. All good and I'm very happy and relieved. I shall be buying the bloody thing a set of covers, some new output valves and a new speaker now!
you probably don't need new valves/speaker, unless of course you just want to
-
it seems the best bet is to try to sort out the moon. look inside, make sure that none of the wires have come off of the tone control for the bass/treble controls, it could be something as simple as a dry joint...had it ever worked correctly?
-
could be a few things. most amps have a bit of an input current surge when they first turn on, to putting in a time delay fuse would be a step in the right direction. however...if that fuse blew in the first place it could be something else more serious. the lights should still come on however, so the first step is definitely putting the right fuse in and seeing what happens. most tube amps are pretty robust, more so than their SS equivalents, so it's no doubt fixable. keep us updated.
Probably the most common ECC83 out there is by JJ Tesla - these are made in the Slovak Republic and the old Tesla factory has been making valves for a long time. Good value at around £8 and work well and are very reliable in my experience. they even got a 'Great Gear' award from Better Guitar. Look at the review here: http://www.betterguitar.com/equipment/othe...bes/jjel84.html Cheers Steve
+1 -- i've got some of these in a compressor, good value.

hey, those basses are pretty awesome man. i grew up in Stratford, CT and they never taught us any luthier skills in high school Stratford is pretty rubbish though. anyways, welcome EDIT: just thought i should mention, i've had a good look around your site now, the basses are beautiful and i totally agree with your philosophy about "playable, go-to" basses. i only saw one EUB on there, do you have pics of others that you've done? i'm not in the market at the moment but i plan to be in a few years time, once i finish uni.

i'd love to go if i had a way to get there. anyone up for a cambridge carpooling sort of thing? i'll split fuel costs... -

i had an isobaric sub a few years back, two twelves in this little tiny box. went really, really low and sounded amazing, but as alex has mentioned, this setup isn't gonna be as efficient as other designs.
