  1. Indeed. I used to record some of the shows with a mic from a mono cassette player and just let the tape run. The quality wasn’t great, but I still have a tape that has Draw the Line by Aerosmith, followed by Suburban Relapse by Siouxsie and the Banshees. Definitely an eclectic show!
  2. That’s great! The Ruts sessions are well worth a listen - I still have a TDK D cassette somewhere with them taped from the show at the time(s). John Peel also played them back to back in their entirety when Malcolm Owen died. I think there’s a session missing from the list - Society (B-side to Babylon’s Burning) was definitely recorded as part of a session, as I recall. They were all once released on CD, but this has (sadly) since been discontinued. Great band, great sessions, and (for me) a genuine example where the Peel versions were significantly better than the album/single versions...
  3. That’s the one - don’t know where Man in Black came from?
  4. Man in Black? I bought that as a kid. I think he had a couple of hits, but can’t remember what they were! He looked proper cool on ToTP, as I recall... I’ll add Truth by Kamasi Washington... (Edit to say that wasn’t really a hit, so...) I’ll go with Pearl’s Girl by Underworld....(Edit to say it has ‘vocals’ on it). I’ll pass!!
  5. Just teasin’! Enjoy the bass, sir! I don’t think I’ve heard one negative word about them. They sound like wonderful instruments.
  6. Wow! That’s lovely, Kev! You’d get a job in Roxy Music with that bass!! Enjoy it, sir..!
  7. Thank you, sir... I think I've sussed it. Apparently I've now got to a stage with Transferwise where all a buyer would need is my email address, as per Piers advice above. In reality I've probably given the deeds to the house away..!
  8. Aye, I think I’m making a right old pig’s ear of it. It’s asking me to deposit 20euros? I imagine someone inside the app (a la the Numbskulls from The Beezer - one for the older readers) pi##ing themselves laughing as they watch me struggle with the modern world...
  9. Apologies for being a total klutz, but... I’m really struggling with Transferwise! I’ve created an account (in order to receive money) but it’s asking me to deposit monies into my Transferwise account via a (my) debit card in order to receive an IBAN number - is this correct?! Can I not just simply give a buyer (UK or overseas) my bank details and they transfer the money in rather than Transferwise et al? I’m an analogue man in a digital world...
  10. Uncanny, I was noodling along to that only this week! Tried to emulate the D synth note by fretting the note and not plucking it (so ‘bouncing/pulsing’ the note on/off the fretboard?!) - the hours flew by! I remember hearing Boston Tea Party on the radio when it came out and the bass line really came through on the mono radio. Such a good band, and the real deal in terms of offering something totally different. Both the band and Zal Cleminson as a guitarist are so often overlooked.
  11. Dave Holland and a wonderful looking P-Bass...
  12. Thanks all, advice and info really appreciated, and really helpful. I think if I agree what I’m after in £s then that feels the most straightforward way of doing things, certainly from a seller point of view. Seems that if I use a courier that covers the whole journey (relating to an overseas journey) and offers insurance then it may not be such a bad way of doing things. If I’m honest I don’t know why I’m so reluctant to do it. In recent years I’ve purchased two basses through the site from overseas sellers (one in Denmark and the other in Czech Republic) and both have been hassle-free and straightforward experiences - obviously helped that the sellers were excellent!!
  13. This is a really helpful thread - thanks Chewie! - and the replies are giving me more confidence to consider couriers. I’ve currently got a bass for sale on the site where I have referenced I’m not looking at using a courier, but I completely understand that this will limit any interest. Has anyone used DPD at all (in UK or Europe)? Also, in terms of payment, is it as simple as giving someone UK bank account details and they transfer the funds - or is that a big no-no?!
  14. Hi, Thanks for the query. I’ll have a re-think over the next couple of days. It’s not something I’ve done before - and up to now have felt uncomfortable doing - but I completely understand that by choosing not to ship either in UK or overseas it will limit the interest in the bass... and it needs to be played rather than sat in a case!! Let me have a think about it...
  15. That’s great, love it! So many things to enjoy with that... not least the bewildered older guy who saunters past at one point! Thanks for posting!
  16. Price lowered to £1700 (collection only), which unfortunately will have to be the final drop - it it doesn't sell at that price by mid/end of next week I'll look at the commission sale route. Keep well all, and thanks for looking...
  17. When I was a kid my first musical heroes were Slade. I always thought that Jim Lea and Don Powell were so cool - cooler than Noddy Holder and Dave Hill. I also thought Micky Finn in T Rex was cooler than Marc Bolan - well I was a kid at the time! In later years, in the late 70s, I saw UFO and was mesmerised by the bass player, Pete Way. He just looked so cool. A real rock star.
  18. This is worth a watch. They discuss the bass at around 11:08...
  19. I like a lot of Blur’s stuff but Girls and Boys is a standout track for me. I can remember the first time I heard it was at Powerhaus on Liverpool Road in Islington shortly after it was released. The place went bonkers! The bass and drums on the track really remind me of early Simple Minds - it’s the sort of thing Derek Forbes could have come up with. There’s a video on YouTube (that I can’t locate) where Warren Huart interviews Graham Coxon (one of my favourite guitarists) and at one point they listen to/discuss Boys & Girls. Mr Coxon is genuinely blown away by the bass line.
  20. Price lowered to £1800, and also open to (sensible!) offers if that doesn’t do the trick. Keep well all, and thanks for looking...
  21. That’s such a well-crafted bass part. Really serves the song but some nice/interesting movement in the verses. He’ll go far, this fella..!
